At the northwestern border, where the Land of Fire met the Land of Grass—
A bleak wind swept across the sparse woodland, stirring dry dust into the air, heavy with the pressure of an approaching storm.
On a slightly elevated, concealed lookout point, Minato Namikaze stood side by side with Mimura Yeisuke, commander of the northwestern forces.
Their gazes were fixed on the horizon.
There—
A vast, earth-colored tide advanced slowly.
Like a creeping landslide, oppressive and suffocating.
"Iwagakure…"
Mimura's voice was low, heavy.
The enemy had moved faster than expected.
They had already crossed the Land of Grass—once a buffer—and now openly stationed themselves along the border of the Land of Fire, forming ranks with chilling precision.
A sea of figures.
Disciplined.
Silent.
Unyielding as stone.
At the forefront stood a broad-shouldered commander, his gaze sharp beneath his forehead protector—
Higashi Shito.
"They've come… sooner than we thought."
Mimura exhaled, exhaustion etched deep into his features.
"More than three thousand, at least. And that's just the beginning."
Minato said nothing at first.
He studied the formation carefully.
Fortified positions.
Layered defenses.
A slow, grinding advance—
Like a massive millstone pressing forward.
"They're waiting," he finally said.
"Onoki is cautious. He's waiting for Kumogakure to move first… to stretch us thin, then crush us bit by bit."
Mimura's expression darkened further.
Their forces had already been worn down.
Skirmishes.
Attrition.
Low morale.
Holding the line was difficult enough.
Counterattacking?
Impossible.
"Minato… your arrival is a blessing."
Mimura turned toward him, a flicker of hope in his eyes.
"With what we have, we can't break them head-on."
"If we leave the fortifications… we'll walk straight into their trap."
Minato nodded.
No frustration.
Only calm—and beneath it, a sharp edge.
"I understand."
"Direct confrontation isn't the answer."
"But war isn't fought in only one way."
His eyes locked onto Higashi Shito in the distance.
"They want stability."
"So we take it from them."
He began issuing orders—clear, precise.
"Pull back the defensive line."
"Select all shinobi skilled in speed and stealth. Form mobile strike units."
"First—harass and delay. Use traps and explosive tags to disrupt their advance."
"Second—target their scouts. Protect our supply routes."
"Third—I'll lead precision strikes against their command and logistics."
He turned slightly.
"They want to crush us with stone."
"Then we become the wind—cutting, eroding, never letting them settle."
Mimura inhaled deeply.
Then nodded.
"Understood."
"I'll hold the line."
"The rest… is yours."
Minato gave one last look at the advancing army.
"They'll learn."
"The Land of Fire isn't theirs to take."
His figure flickered—
And vanished.
Flying Thunder God—activated.
...
On the northeastern front—
The Konoha camp trembled under a different storm.
The air smelled of iron and soil.
Before Danzo Shimura had even fully assumed command—
Sirens rang out.
"Enemy attack—!"
"Kumogakure vanguard!"
Danzo's lone eye remained cold.
No surprise.
He planted his cane.
"Hold formation."
"Yamanaka—link communications."
"Hyūga—scout their chakra signatures."
"Others—defensive positions. Layered resistance."
Orders spread instantly.
Then—
The assault hit.
Kumogakure's charge was brutal.
Direct.
Men wrapped in lightning surged forward, muscles bulging under the stimulation of Lightning Release.
"Lightning Release—Lightning Fang!"
"Lightning Release—Ground Flow!"
Electric arcs tore through the air.
Grass burned.
Earth shattered.
Konoha responded.
"Earth Release—Earth Wall!"
"Water Release—Water Formation Wall!"
Walls rose.
Water surged.
Lightning collided with water—steam exploded outward.
Electricity struck earth—dispersed through layers.
The battlefield erupted.
Explosions.
Steel.
Screams.
Danzo stood above it all, issuing commands without pause.
"Yamanaka—synchronize all units!"
"Aburame—release your insects!"
"Combine techniques—break their momentum!"
"Earth Release—Earth Flow River!"
The ground turned into a raging torrent of mud and stone.
Kumogakure shinobi were dragged under, crushed instantly.
Then—
Fire rose.
"Fire Release—Dragon Flame!"
"Fire Release—Great Fire Annihilation!"
A sea of flames surged forward—
And wind followed.
"Wind Release—Great Breakthrough!"
"Wind Release—Pressure Damage!"
Fire and wind merged—
Becoming a roaring inferno.
A storm of destruction.
The battlefield burned.
Kumogakure adapted instantly.
Lightning cloaks flared brighter.
Bodies became streaks of blue light—
Dodging through fire and mud.
But—
The scale was too vast.
Too dense.
Screams echoed.
Bodies burned.
Crushed.
Torn apart.
The vanguard faltered.
"Good!"
A Konoha shinobi shouted—
Then—
Everything changed.
A single bolt of lightning—
Brighter than all others—
Tore through the battlefield.
"Move aside!"
A voice like thunder.
It smashed through fire.
Through water.
Through everything.
"BOOM—!!!"
The defensive line shattered.
Earth walls exploded like paper.
Water barriers burst apart.
A figure stood at the breach.
Towering.
Wrapped in solid lightning.
Third Raikage.
The center of the battlefield.
He didn't glance at the others.
His eyes locked onto Danzo.
"So—you're Danzo."
"No Hokage? Just you?"
He grinned.
"Good."
"Let me see what the student of Tobirama Senju can do."
He moved—
A blur.
Nothing could stop him.
Weapons shattered.
Ninjutsu dispersed.
"Protect Danzo-sama!"
Root shinobi rushed forward—
And died instantly.
Their bodies torn apart like paper.
The Raikage didn't slow.
Danzo formed seals rapidly.
"Wind Release—Vacuum Great Sphere!"
Compressed wind screamed through the air—
And struck the lightning cloak.
It sparked—
But did nothing.
"That's it?!"
"Too weak!"
The Raikage laughed.
His hand sharpened into a spear of lightning.
"Hell Stab—One Finger!"
A killing thrust—
Then—
Interruption.
"Expansion Jutsu!"
A massive hand collided with him—
The Akimichi Clan leader.
"Shadow Possession!"
The Nara Clan froze him for a split second.
"Eight Trigrams Air Palm!"
Shockwaves struck from multiple angles.
The attack shifted—
Barely missing Danzo.
It blasted through the command platform behind him.
Stone exploded.
Dust filled the air.
Danzo moved.
The Raikage paused.
Then withdrew.
He wasn't reckless.
Not here.
Not alone.
This strike had been—
A test.
A warning.
"You keep your head… for now."
His voice boomed.
"I'll be back to take it."
"Kumogakure—withdraw!"
They came like a storm—
And left just as fast.
Silence followed.
Ruins.
Smoke.
Bodies.
Danzo adjusted his robes.
No grief.
Only cold calculation.
A brutal show of force.
His eye swept across the gathered clans.
Only one thought lingered—
This was not enough.
Not yet.
He turned.
Walking back into the smoke.
Already planning the next move.
