A spacious tatami room was filled with the gentle aroma of freshly brewed green tea—and a quiet, solemn stillness.
Uchiha Mikoto sat at the head, dressed in a deep violet Uchiha robe. Her long hair was neatly tied back, revealing a smooth forehead and graceful neck.
Her expression was calm, her gaze clear and focused.
Gone was the softness she had shown the night before in front of Uchiha Ren.
In its place stood composure.
Capability.
Authority.
Seated on either side were the key participants—
Her aide, the sharp and efficient Uchiha Hazuki;
Representing the hawks, the steady and resolute Uchiha Yashiro;
And from the clan head's faction, the intelligence chief Uchiha Fugaku, alongside the sharp-eyed Uchiha Yakumi.
"Everyone."
Mikoto's gaze swept across them.
"The purpose of this meeting should already be clear."
"By joint decision of the clan head and Elders Setsuna and Hokaku—starting today, all intelligence networks under the clan will be unified under a single system."
"And I will take full command."
Her eyes settled briefly on Fugaku.
The meaning was clear.
With both the hawks and doves aligned, the only "outsiders" here were the two from the clan head's faction.
Fugaku, prepared in advance, met her gaze and nodded calmly.
"The clan head has already instructed me."
"The personnel lists, contact methods, and recent intelligence reports under my command are all here."
He placed a sealed scroll on the table before him—clean, decisive, without hesitation.
Though he knew he had fallen behind the rising figure of Ren in the struggle for the clan's future, he showed the discipline expected of an elite.
No resistance.
No delay.
"Thank you, Brother Fugaku."
Mikoto inclined her head slightly. Hazuki stepped forward at once and collected the scroll.
"Integration is not simple accumulation," Mikoto continued, her tone precise.
"Hazuki, coordinate with Brother Fugaku. Sort the existing structure, remove redundant nodes, and evaluate personnel efficiency."
"I want a preliminary integration plan within three days."
"Yes, Lady Mikoto."
Hazuki answered without hesitation, eyes bright with determination.
"Yashiro."
"Yes."
"You will handle external communication channels."
"Verify all border connections and the relay lines of our informants across the Land of Fire. Ensure absolute security."
"Understood."
Yashiro nodded firmly.
His respect for Mikoto was absolute.
Then—
Her expression turned cold.
"Last night, unfamiliar shinobi appeared around our compound."
"You all understand what that means."
Everyone nodded.
They knew.
It was Konoha's warning.
Surveillance.
Pressure.
Which meant—
Their response had to be unified.
They could not act inconsistently—capturing intruders on one side while apologizing on the other.
In this early stage of integration, coordination between factions was essential.
But—
The Uchiha were not without pride.
Mikoto's gaze shifted to Yakumi, her voice cool.
"Yakumi, you will oversee counter-surveillance of Konoha's leadership."
"Whether it's Mitokado Homura in the capital… or the advisors and the Third Hokage in the tower…"
"We need to know their movements."
Yakumi lowered his head.
"Understood, Lady Mikoto."
He knew exactly what this meant.
At its extreme—
It paved the way for the "decapitation strike" Ren had proposed.
They could monitor the Uchiha—
But the Uchiha weren't allowed to respond?
Unreasonable.
Too aggressive?
No.
This was simply… Uchiha.
For Yakumi, having a stronger leader lifted a weight off his chest.
He loved his clan.
That didn't mean he would accept watching it bow.
Fugaku remained silent.
The arrangements were set.
Mikoto's tone softened slightly.
"The clan stands at a critical juncture."
"Intelligence will be our eyes and ears—in negotiations with the Hokage… and on the battlefield to come."
"You are all indispensable to the clan."
"Let us work together—so our eyes see farther, and our ears hear more clearly."
"For the Uchiha," Yashiro said in a low voice.
"For the Uchiha," Hazuki and Yakumi echoed.
Fugaku watched Mikoto.
Calm.
Decisive.
Effortlessly organizing a complex system within moments.
The last trace of resistance in his heart faded.
She was the right choice.
The bridge between factions.
'Then I'll do my part.'
'Let the clan see that I, too, serve its future.'
His resolve hardened.
—
As the meeting neared its end, finer details were left for further discussion between Hazuki, Yashiro, Fugaku, and Yakumi.
Mikoto remained seated at the head, listening quietly, occasionally adding a remark.
Sunlight fell across her profile, soft and warm.
But the light in her eyes—
Was sharper than any blade.
As if it had already pierced through Konoha's rooftops…
And into the shifting tides of the shinobi world.
Then—
A soft thump.
A graceful silver-striped cat leapt into the room.
"Lady Mikoto—urgent report!"
The room fell silent instantly.
Yashiro and Hazuki exchanged a glance.
Yakumi and Fugaku hesitated, unsure whether to excuse themselves—
But they waited.
The cat, perceptive as ever, landed lightly in Mikoto's arms. At her nod, it spoke.
"Scouts report—this morning, a large number of Konoha shinobi are moving toward the southwest."
"Most likely a reserve force preparing for war against Sunagakure."
Everyone's expression sharpened.
Mikoto immediately recognized it—
An opportunity.
A chance to test Konoha's limits.
"Ah Yan, report this to Ren as well. I have matters to handle here."
"Meow."
As the cat departed, Mikoto turned to Fugaku.
A faint smile curved her lips.
"Brother Fugaku… now that you've handed over intelligence responsibilities, you'll likely take on more duties within the Police Force."
Her gaze sharpened slightly.
"The 'uninvited guests' lurking around our clan grounds…"
"How do you think we should deal with them?"
