Day 432. 04:47 hours.
Olympus.
The Master Attic Sanctuary.
Jae-min woke to Yue's mouth on his.
Not the slow, deliberate kisses from hours ago but hungry and urgent, Yue's tongue tracing the seam of his lips, her teeth catching his lower lip, her hand on his jaw tilting his face toward hers.
The marble eyes were open and bright in the pre-dawn dark, carrying the particular intensity of a woman who had decided what she wanted and was taking it before the world could interrupt.
Jae-min's body responded before his mind caught up, the warmth and the mouth and the hand on his jaw, and the weight of Jennifer still on his chest, still settled against his hips, the particular morning reality of a body that had fallen asleep connected and was now in the pre-dawn still connected.
Still hard.
Still inside Jennifer, who stirred against him in her sleep with her breath catching on a small sound, her hips shifting in an unconscious roll that pressed him deeper.
Yue pulled back, her marble eyes on his face, her hand still on his jaw.
"You're awake." Yue said, her voice low and blunt.
"Hm." Jae-min murmured, his voice rough with sleep, his hand finding Yue's hip and the curve of it and the muscle underneath.
Jennifer stirred again, her hips rolling in the unconscious motion of a woman whose body remembered the night even as her mind slept.
The wet heat of her shifting around him pulled a small breathless sound from her throat against his chest, her icy-blue hair tangled across his shoulder, sticky with dried sweat, her soft curves pressed flat against him with her breasts warm and her waist under his palm.
Yue's eyes tracked the motion, the marble watching Jennifer's hips move, watching Jae-min's jaw tighten.
"She's still asleep." Yue observed, her hand moving from Jae-min's jaw to Jennifer's hair, the swordswoman's calloused fingers threading through the icy-blue strands. "And you're still inside her."
"Hm." Jae-min acknowledged, his hand tightening on Yue's hip.
"Good." Yue declared, swinging her leg over Jae-min's chest to straddle him above Jennifer's sleeping form, her knees on either side of his ribs, her marble eyes looking down at him in the pre-dawn dark.
While the snow ticked against the windows and the PROMETHEUS hummed and Gabriel sprawled to his right with her black hair across the pillow and the three wives slept against the wall, and the two babies breathed in their cribs.
Yue leaned down, and her mouth found his again, the kiss deeper now, her tongue against his, the taste of her and the weight of her on his chest above Jennifer, the two women layered on him like armor on a body.
His hand on Yue's hip, his other hand on Jennifer's waist, the two women and the man in the pre-dawn dark.
Jennifer woke in stages, the hips shifting first, the body registering the hardness inside her before the mind caught up, then the breath catching, then the fingers tightening on his chest, then the blue eyes opening wet with sleep and finding Yue's face above hers and finding Jae-min's face beyond Yue's shoulder.
"Oh." Jennifer breathed, the flush climbing her neck, the pink spreading across her chest, the submissive who woke to find herself still filled and still connected with another woman's mouth on the man she was connected to.
Yue pulled back from the kiss, her marble eyes finding Jennifer's face.
"Morning." Yue said, her voice blunt, the swordswoman who did not do sentimental even in the pre-dawn, even straddling a man, even looking down at a woman who was blushing from the waist up.
Jennifer's hips rolled, the involuntary response of a body that had been moving in sleep now moving in waking, the hardness inside her pressing the spot, her breath catching.
"He's still—" Jennifer stammered, the flush deepening, the blue eyes wide.
"I know." Yue replied, her hand moving from Jennifer's hair to Jennifer's jaw, the calloused thumb tracing Jennifer's lower lip.
Jae-min's hips rolled, the slow thrust and the fill, Jennifer's breath catching in a small wet sound against the pre-dawn air.
His hand on Yue's hip tightened, his other hand on Jennifer's waist pressed down, the two women and the man and the warmth.
"Yue." Jae-min commanded, his voice rough.
Yue understood without being told twice, shifting her body down so her hips found Jennifer's hips, and her legs tangled with Jennifer's legs, the two women pressed together above Jae-min, breast to breast and hip to hip.
Yue's mouth found Jennifer's neck, the same spot Jae-min had marked hours ago, the swordswoman marking the same territory, claiming, and Jennifer's back arched and her hips ground down and the hardness inside her pressed deeper, and the sound she made was not a word.
Jae-min's hands found both women, one hand on Yue's hip and one hand on Jennifer's waist, the two women moving above him while Yue's mouth worked on Jennifer's neck and Jennifer's nails found Yue's shoulders.
The two of them finding a rhythm, the particular rhythm of two women who shared a man and had learned over months to share each other in the process.
The snow ticked against the skylights and the PROMETHEUS hummed and the only light was the faint glow of snow against glass, the charcoal-gray filtering through, the particular blue-gray of a world that was always dawn and never morning.
Jennifer's hips rolled in the grind and the wet and the heat while his hand held her waist and Yue's mouth worked down Jennifer's collarbone and Yue's hand covered Jennifer's breast, the swordswoman's calloused palm on the soft curve, the nipple hard against the callus, Jennifer's breath breaking.
"Please." Jennifer whispered, her voice the beg, the submissive who needed to be told. "Please. More."
Jae-min's hips rolled up in the thrust and the fill, and Jennifer's back arched while Yue's teeth grazed the skin and Jennifer's nails raked down Yue's back in red lines, the two women marking each other above the man underneath who was thrusting and filling and claiming.
The first orgasm broke Jennifer with the crash that came from the morning and the waking still connected and the swordswoman's mouth on her neck and the man inside her, her body arching and her nails drawing blood on Yue's shoulders and her mouth open in the sound and the wet and the heat and the claim.
Jae-min's release followed, the heat pouring into Jennifer, the fill and the claim and the bond renewed in the pre-dawn, and Jennifer's body went slack against his chest while Yue's mouth was still on her neck and Yue's hand was still on her breast and Jae-min was still hard inside her.
"Again." Jae-min commanded, his voice low.
Jennifer's breath caught.
"Again?" Jennifer questioned, her voice barely a whisper.
"Again." Jae-min confirmed.
Yue's mouth moved to Jennifer's ear, the swordswoman's lips against the telepath's earlobe, the whisper that was more breath than sound.
"He's not done with you." Yue murmured, and Jennifer's hips rolled a second time, slower now, the urgency spent, the tide replacing the crash.
The second time was the long wave, Jae-min's hands on both women while Yue's mouth moved across Jennifer's skin and Jennifer's hands found Yue's hair, the three of them moving in the particular rhythm that was theirs, built over months of nights, not choreography but instinct.
The second orgasm built in the slow climb, Yue's hand moving from Jennifer's breast to the curve of her waist, Jae-min's thumb on Jennifer's hip bone finding the spot, the angle and the fill, the slow grinding pressure that built and built until Jennifer broke in the tide that washed through her and Yue's mouth covered Jennifer's mouth to swallow the sound, the kiss that was not comfort but containment, the marble eyes open and watching Jennifer's face as the orgasm rolled through.
Jae-min's release followed the second, the heat and the claim and the bond, the wet overflowing onto sheets that were already ruined, the pre-dawn dark turning gray at the edges.
Jennifer collapsed against Jae-min's chest, Yue's body on Jennifer's back, the three of them layered in the warmth and the weight and the pre-dawn while the snow ticked and the babies breathed and the wives slept and Gabriel lay passed out across half the bed.
"Again?" Jennifer whispered, her voice barely a breath, the submissive who would do anything, the masochist who needed to be told, the woman who had waited three years and was now in the pre-dawn in the warmth in the home being asked.
Jae-min's hand found Jennifer's hair, his fingers closing in the icy-blue strands, the pull and the ownership that curved Jennifer's spine and arched her back in the offering.
"One more." Jae-min said, his voice rough.
The third time was the deepest and the slowest, the tide that had become the ocean, Jae-min inside Jennifer while Yue's body pressed against them both, the swordswoman's hand between them, her calloused fingers finding the place where Jennifer and Jae-min connected, pressing, and Jennifer's breath stopping entirely.
Yue's marble eyes found Jae-min's eyes over Jennifer's shoulder, the look that said I know what you are and I am still here, the look that was not tenderness and not marble but the thing between them that had no name.
Jennifer broke in the third orgasm, the one that came from the place where the cafeteria and the pity and the leverage and the love all lived, the place that was Day Twenty-Three, the place that was three words, the place that was the truth, the real thing, the only real thing.
Jae-min's release followed, the deepest, the heat and the claim and the bond that had started as not-caring, had become leverage, had become love on Day Twenty-Three, and was now in the pre-dawn in the warmth, in the home, in the bed, in the truth complete.
The three of them lay in the pre-dawn, Jennifer on Jae-min's chest and Yue on Jennifer's back, the layers and the warmth and the weight while the snow ticked and the PROMETHEUS hummed, the babies breathed, the wives slept, Gabriel slept, and the charcoal sky turned the faintest gray at the edges.
Yue's mouth found Jae-min's over Jennifer's shoulder, the kiss that was not desire but recognition, the swordswoman and the captain, the marble and the void, the two who had been together since the beginning and would be together until the end.
"The beam test is in three hours." Yue murmured against his lips, the reminder and the sword.
"Hm." Jae-min acknowledged, his hand still in Jennifer's hair.
"You should shower." Yue added, pulling back, her marble eyes carrying the faintest curve, not a smile but the ghost of one, the swordswoman who did not do sentimental being sentimental, the swordswoman who had woken him with kisses like no tomorrow now telling him to shower because the beam test was in three hours.
"Hm." Jae-min replied, his voice rough with sleep and warmth.
"You smell like sex." Yue stated, her voice blunt and low and carrying the faintest edge of amusement.
"Hm." Jae-min murmured, not moving.
Jennifer stirred against his chest, the sleep pulling her back, her hips shifting one last time in the unconscious roll, the man still inside her softening now, the connection loosening, the warmth and the wet and the weight settling.
"Don't go." Jennifer whispered, her voice sleep and breath, the submissive who wanted the man to stay, the masochist who wanted the fill, and the woman who had waited three years and did not want the waiting to start again.
"Three hours." Jae-min replied, his hand finding Jennifer's jaw, his thumb on her lower lip, the lip that had trembled in the cafeteria and smiled at Kiara and was now under his thumb in the pre-dawn in the warmth in the truth. "The beam test. ARTEMIS at five percent. The push."
"Hm." Jennifer murmured, her eyes closing, the sleep taking her, the truth settling in her body, the bond and the warmth and the man who was leaving in three hours to test the weapon that would save three thousand children.
Yue settled against Jae-min's left side, her marble eyes closing, her hand resting on his chest over his heart with the calluses rough and the hand steady, the hand that held a sword now holding a heartbeat.
Jae-min lay in the warmth with the weight of Jennifer on his chest and the weight of Yue against his side and the weight of Gabriel against his other side, the three against the wall sleeping and the two in the cribs sleeping, and in three hours the beam test would begin and in two days the Satellite Link would be ready and in two days the void would open the portal over Mindanao and the frequency would collapse the V2 and ARTEMIS would fire and the composite would die and the children would live.
The snow ticked.
The void hummed.
The morning came.

Day 432. 08:00 hours.
Level 5.
The Engineering Workshop.
The GENESIS berth.
The workshop smelled of coffee and titanium dust, Aiko's black tar brewing since 06:00, the mug on Jae-min's console already half-empty with steam curling in the fluorescent light.
The team was assembled, nine people and the captain, each at their station with the particular readiness of people who had been building toward this moment for two days and who knew that today was the day the concept became reality.
Mark Jordan stood at the base of the GENESIS with his amber eyes on the void anchor housing gleaming on the right shoulder.
"Beam test. Day Three. ARTEMIS at five percent." Mark Jordan announced, his voice carrying across the workshop. "The beam routes through the portal. We prove the concept."
Mark Jordan turned to the team and his amber eyes moved from face to face.
"Checklist." Mark Jordan commanded. "Aiko. Housing."
"Housing is reinforced, double-welded mounts, titanium holding." Aiko reported, her voice careful and precise. "The shaping will take 1.2 terawatts at full power. Five percent is nothing."
"Daniela. Welds." Mark Jordan continued.
"Welds are double-laid, no stress fractures." Daniela confirmed, her voice steady. "The mounts will hold at full power."
"Lena. Interface." Mark Jordan pressed.
"Interface is optimized, harmonic sync calibrated for beam routing." Lena reported, her bionic fingers flexing. "The frequency will stay constant during the fire. The interface will hold at 1.2 terawatts."
"Victor. Coupling." Mark Jordan said.
"Coupling is recalibrated, PROMETHEUS draw at five percent is nominal." Victor confirmed, his voice steady. "Draw at full power will be within tolerance. The coupling will feed the anchor clean."
"Marco. Parts." Mark Jordan continued.
"All components checked, all within spec." Marco confirmed, his counter's voice clipped and efficient. "Twelve titanium components, eight carbon fiber panels, four harmonic amplifiers, six electromagnetic lenses, one PROMETHEUS coupling, one void anchor housing. All green."
"Tito Rey. Workflow." Mark Jordan pressed.
"Build sequence is clean, personnel coordinated." Tito Rey reported from behind his schedule board. "Housing check, weld check, interface check, coupling check, captain in cockpit, portal extension, ARTEMIS connection, five percent fire, beam measurement, portal retraction. Linear. Ready."
"Linda. Floor." Mark Jordan concluded.
"Floor is secure, workshop locked, no non-essential personnel." Linda confirmed, her cop's voice commanding. "The nine and the captain. That's it."
"Paolo. Math." Mark Jordan addressed the ice and snow user.
"Math is ready, orbital geometry confirmed, portal trajectory confirmed." Paolo reported, pushing his cracked glasses up. "Beam coherence model predicts stable routing at five percent. At full power, the model predicts stable routing at ninety-three percent confidence. The math is ahead of the hardware."
"Good." Mark Jordan declared, turning to Jae-min. "Captain. When you're ready."
The lift platform carried Jae-min fifteen feet up to the cockpit hatch, and he stepped inside and sat on the bike seat with the forward lean and the hand-grips and the foot-pedals.
The leather was cold this time, the morning cold, the cockpit not yet warmed by the body.
He pulled the void token from his collar and inserted it into the port.
The console lit.
The HUD activated, the void anchor housing visible through the cockpit glass, gleaming on the right shoulder under the fluorescent lights.
"Captain in cockpit." Jae-min reported through the comms. "Token inserted. Console active."
"Copy, Captain." Mark Jordan's voice came through the speakers. "Lena, initiate harmonic sync. Full sequence."
"Initiating." Lena confirmed, her bionic fingers moving across the console. "Harmonic sync at twelve percent. Climbing. Twenty. Thirty. The anchor is responding, titanium is resonating."
Jae-min felt it, the hum in the housing, the titanium singing, the void in his chest reaching for the anchor with the familiar reach that had been proven yesterday and was now becoming routine. The void moved upward through the console and the PROMETHEUS coupling and the frame and up the shoulder into the housing.
"Harmonic sync at one hundred percent." Lena reported. "Anchor is locked. Portal ready."
"Captain, open the portal." Mark Jordan commanded.
Jae-min reached for the void and pushed, the portal opening at the anchor in a black-violet slit fifteen feet off the ground, the hum and the frequency and the kill frequency live again.
"Portal open, stable." Lena reported. "Frequency is constant at the V2 kill frequency."
"Extend to ARTEMIS." Mark Jordan commanded.
Jae-min pushed the void upward through the atmosphere and the charcoal-gray sky and the snow, four hundred kilometers up, and the portal extended, the black-violet corridor stretching from fifty to one hundred to two hundred to three hundred to four hundred kilometers.
"Connection to ARTEMIS established." Lena reported. "Four hundred kilometers. Stable."
"Drift?" Mark Jordan pressed.
"Point two seven percent." Paolo called out. "Within tolerance. Clean."
"Connection confirmed." Mark Jordan announced, his voice shifting from the professor to the engineer. "Captain, we are go for five percent fire. ARTEMIS is standing by. The beam will route through the portal and exit at the target. The target is the frozen bay, two hundred meters offshore."
"Copy." Jae-min replied, his hand finding the fire control on the right grip, the trigger that would route the command through the GENESIS and the void anchor and the portal to ARTEMIS in orbit.
"ARTEMIS, stand by for five percent fire on captain's command." Mark Jordan commanded through the comms.
[Mei]: "ARTEMIS is go." Mei relayed from the Command Deck. "Platform nominal. Cannon charged at five percent. Targeting locked. On your command, Captain."
The workshop was silent. Nine people and the captain. The void humming and the portal humming and ARTEMIS humming in orbit four hundred kilometers up. The snow ticking against the skylights. The PROMETHEUS cores humming in the eight berths. The coffee cooling on Jae-min's console. The Sailor Moon doll watching from Paolo's keyboard with her painted eyes and her permanent smile.
"Three thousand children. Twelve per V2 unit. The number ticking down." Jae-min filed, his finger on the trigger.
"Fire." Jae-min commanded.
The trigger pulled.
The command routed through the GENESIS and the void anchor and the portal, up the four-hundred-kilometer corridor of black-violet space to ARTEMIS in low orbit.
The Ion Particle Cannon received the command and fired.
The beam entered the portal in orbit as a shaft of white-blue light, ionized particles accelerated to relativistic speeds punching into the black-violet corridor.
The beam traveled down the four hundred kilometers of void-extended space, bending through the portal geometry, routed by the harmonic sync, guided by the frequency, and exited the portal at the target, the frozen bay two hundred meters offshore.
The impact was visible on the thermal imaging display as a white-hot point on the gray-white expanse of the frozen bay.
The ice vaporized in a ten-meter radius, the steam rising in a column that the thermal imaging showed as a red-orange plume against the charcoal sky, the water beneath the ice exposed for the first time in four hundred and thirty-two days and steaming in the minus-seventy air.
The beam had routed. The beam had exited at the target. The concept was proven.
[Mei]: "Beam impact confirmed." Mei reported from the Command Deck. "Target hit. Two hundred meters offshore. Ice vaporized in a ten-meter radius. Beam coherence stable at ninety-eight percent. Frequency constant at the V2 kill frequency throughout the firing. Portal held at ninety-nine percent stability."
The workshop erupted in the particular way that workshops erupt when the impossible becomes routine.
Aiko's hands came off her mouth and found the bench behind her.
Daniela's torch hit the floor for the second time in two days.
Lena's bionic fingers gripped the console while the numbers held steady.
Victor released the maintenance panel.
Marco's clipboard found his hand.
Tito Rey wiped his eyes.
Linda's arms crossed and uncrossed.
Paolo finally pushed his glasses up.
"Beam coherence at ninety-eight percent." Lena reported, her voice tight. "Frequency held constant at the V2 kill frequency throughout the firing. Portal stability at ninety-nine percent. The beam routed clean."
"Five percent." Mark Jordan declared, his voice rough, his amber eyes bright. "Tomorrow, one hundred percent. 1.2 terawatts. The fire test."
"And the day after." Jae-min added through the comms. "The kill confirmation. We simulate the V2 gamma signature and prove the frequency collapses it."
"Two days." Mark Jordan confirmed. "Then Mindanao."
Jae-min pulled the token, the console went dark, the portal closed, and the void settled back into his chest, the four-hundred-kilometer reach folding back into the man. Jae-min climbed out of the cockpit and took the lift platform down to the workshop floor where the team was waiting.
"It works." Mark Jordan announced, his voice rough, his amber eyes bright with the seeing. "The beam routes, the frequency holds, the portal holds. Tomorrow, full power. The day after, kill confirmation. Two days. Then we go to Mindanao, we kill the V2, and we save three thousand children."
"Two days." The workshop echoed.
Victor stepped forward first.
"Coupling held at five percent, draw was nominal." Victor stated, his cop's voice steady. "Tomorrow at full power the draw increases by a factor of twenty. I need tonight to prep the coupling for the load shift."
"Tonight." Jae-min confirmed. "And Victor, the coupling held at five percent. At full power it holds 1.2 terawatts of routed beam energy. That's not a diesel generator. That's infinity at full draw. Good work."
"Same discipline. Different machine." Victor replied, his jaw tight.
Aiko stepped forward.
"Housing held at five percent, the titanium sang." Aiko reported, her voice carrying the particular intensity of a shaper who had heard her metal sing. "But tomorrow at full power the housing holds twenty times the energy. I need tonight to reinforce the harmonic dampeners."
"Tonight." Jae-min confirmed. "The housing held. The titanium sang. Good work."
Aiko's black eyes went wet before Aiko turned back to her station without speaking.
Daniela stepped forward.
"Welds held at five percent." Daniela said, her voice steady. "Tomorrow at full power, the stress increases by a factor of twenty. I need tonight to triple-weld the critical mounts."
"Tonight." Jae-min confirmed. "The welds held. Good work."
Daniela's eyes went wet before she turned back to her welds.
Lena stepped forward.
"Interface held at five percent, harmonic sync stayed at one hundred percent throughout the firing." Lena reported, her bionic fingers flexing. "But tomorrow at full power, the beam energy adds a new variable. The routing has to hold at 1.2 terawatts while maintaining harmonic sync. That's never been done."
"Tonight." Jae-min confirmed. "The interface held. The sync was perfect. Good work."
Lena's bionic fingers trembled before Lena turned back to her console.
Marco stepped forward with his clipboard.
"All components performed within spec at five percent." Marco confirmed, his counter's voice clipped. "Tomorrow at full power, all components need to perform at twenty times the load. I need tonight to recheck every component."
"Tonight." Jae-min confirmed. "The parts held. All green. Good work."
"Same counting. Different parts." Marco replied, his mouth twitching.
Tito Rey stepped forward from behind his schedule board.
"The workflow held, the beam test ran on schedule." Tito Rey reported, his organizer's voice warm. "Tomorrow's fire test needs the same workflow."
"Tonight." Jae-min confirmed. "The workflow was clean. The sequence was smooth. Good work."
"Same organizing. Different people." Tito Rey replied, his eyes glistening.
Linda stepped forward.
"The floor held, the workshop was secure." Linda confirmed, her cop's voice commanding. "The beam test was clean because the floor was clean."
"Tonight." Jae-min confirmed. "The floor held. Good work."
"Same coordination. Different team." Linda replied, her mouth twitching.
Paolo stepped forward with his cracked glasses and the Sailor Moon doll under his arm.
"Boss, the math held at five percent." Paolo reported. "Beam coherence at ninety-eight percent, portal stability at ninety-nine percent. Tomorrow at full power, the math predicts beam coherence at ninety-three percent and portal stability at ninety-one percent. The margins are tighter, but the math says it holds."
"Tonight." Jae-min confirmed. "The math held. The math was right. Good work."
"Same math, Boss." Paolo replied. "Different numbers."
"Team is nine." Mark Jordan declared. "Day Three is done. Tomorrow, Day Four, the fire test. Full power. 1.2 terawatts. The day after, Day Five, the kill confirmation. Two days. The push."
"The push." The workshop echoed.
The woman in white stepped out of the corner, one step to the side, her green eyes through the gap at Jae-min.
She raised her hands and signed.
The signs said: The beam routes. The frequency holds. The children. Two days.
"Two days." Jae-min confirmed, his voice low. "Then Mindanao. Then the void opens the portal, the frequency collapses the V2, ARTEMIS fires, the composite dies, the children live."
The woman in white nodded once, the receipt and the vow, and stepped back into the corner with the green eyes steady and the disguise holding the way it always held.

Day 432. 14:00 hours.
Level 2.
The Command Deck.
Jae-min stood at the command console with his dark eyes on the ZEUS display while Mei sat at the twelve-monitor hub with Chocho curled in her lap.
The display showed the beam test data scrolling in clean lines, the coherence curve holding steady at ninety-eight percent, the frequency constant, the portal stability at ninety-nine percent.
The numbers that proved the concept.
The numbers that meant tomorrow's fire test was not a gamble but a formality.
The display flickered.
"Captain." Mei announced, her voice shifting from clinical to sharp. "ZEUS is through another file. TIMELINE_ACCELERATION."
Jae-min's dark eyes locked on the display.
The production schedule. The file that would tell them the number. How many V2 units built. How many children consumed. How many children left.
"Downloading?" Jae-min questioned.
"Downloading." Mei confirmed, her fingers moving across the keyboard. "Twelve percent. Fifteen. Twenty. The file is large. Production schedules, facility manifests, extraction logs."
The progress bar climbed through twenty-five and thirty and forty, the numbers ticking upward on the screen while the snow ticked against the windows and the PROMETHEUS hummed through the walls.
Fifty.
Sixty.
"Seventy-five. Eighty." Mei reported, her voice steady and clinical, the divine fundamental who filed everything, even horror. "Eighty-five. Ninety. Ninety-five. Done."
The display resolved.
Mei was quiet for a long moment.
Her violet-blue eyes moved across the data, her fingers stilled on the keyboard, and the particular silence of a woman reading numbers that meant children had died filled the Command Deck like water filling a room.
"Captain." Mei breathed, her voice very quiet. "The Federation has built seventeen V2 units. Each unit requires twelve children."
Mei paused, her violet-blue eyes meeting Jae-min's dark eyes.
"Seventeen times twelve is two hundred and four." Mei finished.
The number landed on the Command Deck like a physical weight. Two hundred and four children. Consumed. Dead. Their gamma extracted and implanted in the fused bodies of seventeen V2 composites.
Two hundred and four children who had been alive and were now fuel.
"How many left?" Jae-min questioned, his voice flat, the captain's voice that held the rage behind the teeth and the teeth that held.
Mei scrolled through the extraction logs, her fingers moving across the keyboard, her violet-blue eyes tracking the data. "The facility holds approximately three thousand children. Two hundred and four have been extracted. Two thousand seven hundred and ninety-six remain."
Mei paused again.
Her fingers stilled on the keyboard.
"Three more V2 units are in progress." Mei continued, her voice dropping. "Thirty-six more children scheduled for extraction."
"If the schedule holds, the thirty-six will be extracted within..." Mei trailed off, her violet-blue eyes finding Jae-min's dark eyes across the Command Deck. "Within ten days."
Ten days. Thirty-six more children. Twelve per unit. Three more V2 units. In ten days.
Jae-min's void pulsed in his chest, the hot pulse that was not the captain but the regressor, the man who remembered being eaten alive, the man who had come back, the man who was now hearing that thirty-six more children would be eaten alive in ten days.
Consumed.
Fuel.
"Two days." Jae-min declared, his voice flat. "Two days until the Satellite Link is ready. Two days until the kill confirmation. Then we go to Mindanao."
"Two days." Mei confirmed.
"The thirty-six children. The three V2 units." Jae-min pressed, his voice dropping. "We reach them before the extraction. We kill the V2. We save the children."
"Two days." Mei repeated.
Mei's fingers moved across the keyboard, pulling the TIMELINE_ACCELERATION file contents onto the main display. Data scrolled across the screen in columns and rows. Production schedules. Facility manifests. Extraction logs.
The numbers that told the story of the Federation's acceleration.
Seventeen V2 units built.
Two hundred and four children consumed.
Each unit requiring twelve Enhanced children between the ages of four and fourteen. The extraction was fatal. The children did not survive. Their gamma was extracted and implanted in the fused bodies of the composite. The gamma powered the V2. The V2 was permanent.
The V2 did not fade.
Three more V2 units in progress.
Thirty-six more children scheduled for extraction. The extraction timeline: ten days. The production schedule showed the facility was accelerating, the Federation not waiting, the Federation building, the children being consumed at a rate of twelve per unit on a schedule that would see thirty-six more children dead in ten days.
Jae-min's dark eyes were on the display, on the numbers, on the schedule, on the extraction logs that listed by date the children who had been consumed.
Names. Ages. Four. Five. Six. Seven. Eight. Nine. Ten. Eleven. Twelve. Thirteen. Fourteen.
The ages of the children who had been fuel.
"Two hundred and four names. Two hundred and four children. The regressor who was one victim, now looking at two hundred and four." Jae-min filed, the void pulsing hot, the rage filing itself behind the teeth the way it always filed itself, the teeth holding, the voice steady, the captain in command and the regressor underneath.
Two days.
Two days until the Satellite Link was ready.
Two days until the void opened the portal over Mindanao. Two days until the frequency collapsed the V2. Two days until ARTEMIS fired. Two days until the composite died. Two days until the children lived.
Jae-min pulled up the ARTEMIS feed on the display, the orbital platform cooling from the five percent fire, the PROMETHEUS generator stable, the targeting system logging the impact coordinates.
ARTEMIS was ready for tomorrow.
ARTEMIS was ready for full power.
APOLLO sat beside ARTEMIS in orbit equally green, the second Two Deity with its Plasma Cannon and its 800 gigawatts, the area weapon waiting alongside the precision weapon.
Both of them sleeping in orbit for three hundred and sixty-six days, waiting for the moment the household needed a sword the world could not see coming.
Two swords.
Two Deities.
The precision and the area.
ARTEMIS for the composite.
APOLLO for everything else.
Jae-min looked at the display.
Two hundred and four consumed. Two thousand seven hundred and ninety-six remaining. Thirty-six scheduled for extraction in ten days. Two days until the Satellite Link was ready. The math. The race. The number ticking down at twelve children per unit.
The number the void had to reach before the number reached zero.
"Mei." Jae-min addressed the divine fundamental without turning from the display. "The extraction logs. The names. The ages. File them."
"Filed." Mei confirmed, her fingers moving on the keyboard.
"Not for ZEUS." Jae-min added, his voice dropping. "For the coalition. For the household. For the six thousand. The names of the children who were consumed. The names of the children we are saving. File them. Permanent. Non-deletable."
"Permanent." Mei confirmed, her violet-blue eyes on the data, her fingers filing two hundred and four names into the NPU Core alongside four hundred and forty-three voice files and three hundred and thirteen days of compound knowledge.
"Two hundred and four." Jae-min repeated, his dark eyes on the number on the display. "Two hundred and four children who were already gone when we rescued the first two thousand four hundred and ninety.
Two hundred and four children who were being consumed while we were building frames and upgrading LINDA and naming ZEUS and testing the Satellite Link."
"Two hundred and four children we could not save." Jae-min concluded, his voice flat.
"And two thousand seven hundred and ninety-six we can." Mei replied, her voice quiet.
Jae-min's void pulsed.
The hot pulse.
The regressor who had been eaten alive and who had come back and who was now standing in a command deck looking at two hundred and four names of children who had been eaten alive by a composite.
Consumed.
Fuel.
The way the neighbors had consumed him.
The way the neighbors had consumed Alessia.
In the first timeline.
The eating.
The consuming.
The fuel.
"The victim becomes the weapon. The eaten becomes the killer. The consumed becomes the one who saves the consumed. The circle." Jae-min filed, the void humming in his chest, the void that had not noticed Jennifer in the cafeteria and had carried her on Day Four because the door was open and had used her as leverage and had loved her on Day Twenty-Three and had told her the truth last night.
The void that would, in two days, open the portal over Mindanao and collapse the V2 and save two thousand seven hundred and ninety-six children from being consumed as fuel.
"Two days." Jae-min declared, his dark eyes on the display, on the number, on the names. "The fire test tomorrow. The kill confirmation the day after. Then Mindanao."
"Two days." Mei confirmed.
"The push." Jae-min added, his voice dropping to the register that meant the plan was final. "The nine work tonight. The nine work tomorrow night. Two days of push. Two days of tests. Two days of the void and the frequency and the kill."
"The push." Mei confirmed.
Jae-min closed his eyes.
The void humming in his chest. The void that was the door. The void that was the frequency. The void that was the kill. The void that would, in two days, open the portal over Mindanao and collapse the V2 and save the children.
Two hundred and four names on the display. Two thousand seven hundred and ninety-six remaining. Thirty-six in ten days. Two days until the Satellite Link was ready.
The snow fell against the Command Deck windows.
The display glowed with the number. The void hummed. The Two Deities waited in orbit. The nine rested in the workshop for the push that would come with the morning. The children waited in the facility.
Two days and counting.
