Cherreads

Chapter 31 - “We Were Ready to Fight to the Death—Why Has Boss Already Surrendered???”

Rei Akagi ignored the flood of bullet comments and guided Red to pivot slightly before plunging into the dense forest, quickly heading deeper inside.

Since the top donor wanted to see it, there was no harm in showing them.

As Red continued forward, the entire game screen began to tremble with a low, rhythmic vibration.

Weaker Pokémon scattered in panic. Towering ancient trees shuddered, their leaves raining down like a storm.

Closer… and closer.

Red concealed himself and parted a patch of grass, looking toward the center of the disturbance.

Kangaskhan — Lv.30

Ability: Inner Focus(Prevents flinching from the opponent's attacks.)

A Kangaskhan with bloodshot eyes stood there, guarding the pouch on its belly while smashing everything around it without restraint.

Amid the terrifying destruction, a petite figure with a yellow ponytail suddenly burst from another clump of grass. Soft light glowed from her hands as she ran straight toward the rampaging Kangaskhan without a trace of fear.

But just as the girl was about to get close—

In its rage, Kangaskhan wildly swung one of its massive arms.

CRACK!

A giant tree—so thick it would take several people to encircle—was smashed clean in half.

The shattered trunk collapsed directly onto the girl's path. Clearly caught off guard, she stumbled and fell in panic.

The falling tree and the cloud of dust it kicked up completely blocked the camera view.

No one could see what happened to her anymore.

"Holy crap! Is this what a hidden event looks like?! This feels way too real and dangerous!"

"Streamer, move already!!! That girl got crushed under the tree!!! If you can't play then let me do it!!!"

"Teacher Salted Fish, do you even have a heart?! Such a cute girl is in danger and you're just watching?!"

"Wait! That blonde girl… isn't she Yellow of Viridian Grove?! Just like Red and the others, she's a special Pokédex holder recognized by Professor Oak!"

"It's over! It's all over! My Yellow-chan!!!"

For a moment, nearly 80% of the chat was condemning Rei Akagi's apparent coldness and inaction.

The livestream was filled with cheerful—scratch that—furious accusations.

Yet Rei Akagi remained calm as a rock.

He even leisurely adjusted Red's camera angle, allowing the view to better capture what lay beyond the dust cloud.

The enraged Kangaskhan hadn't stopped.

It raised both arms high as dense, tangible brown Ground-type energy began to gather wildly around it. A terrifying destructive pulse spread outward.

Earthquake—about to be unleashed!

"Mew~"

At that critical moment, a dreamlike pink light suddenly cut through the dust without warning.

Along with it came a long, ethereal cry—soft and distant, like the gentlest sigh of a tranquil forest.

The next instant—

A brilliant blue barrier expanded outward.

It firmly blocked Kangaskhan's crashing fist. Violent shockwaves rippled across the shield, yet it didn't budge even slightly.

Beneath the blue barrier stood a familiar figure in a white lab coat.

Moving swiftly, he pulled out several spray-can bottles and began spraying them toward Kangaskhan.

Gradually, the crimson in Kangaskhan's eyes faded, replaced by confusion—and even a hint of apology.

It bowed deeply.

After what seemed like a few quiet exchanges, it hurriedly disappeared into the forest.

The crisis was over.

Only then did the man in the lab coat turn around.

He gently lifted the unconscious Yellow onto his back.

With a slight shift of his body, he leapt lightly two or three times—vanishing into the treetops high above the forest.

Gone without a trace.

After confirming everything had completely calmed down, Rei Akagi finally guided Red out of hiding and into the center of the battlefield.

On screen, the snapped giant tree and cracked earth silently testified to how dangerous that encounter had been.

"It's you! My superhero! The Researcher Rei!"

"Streamer, look at him! Now look at yourself!"

"Garchomp & Ice Cream sent a highlighted message:

The Researcher Rei truly reassuring. But Teacher Salted Fish, could you explain what that pink light just now was… what Pokémon was that?"

"As expected of Champion Cynthia! I was just about to ask the same thing—so it really was a Pokémon!"

"That researcher was insanely cool! Even had parkour moves! Is that Eastern martial arts?"

Seeing Cynthia's highlighted comment, Rei Akagi suddenly felt his face grow warm.

After all, the Researcher Rei's character model was literally based on him.

Which meant Cynthia had recognized the NPC long ago—but chose not to expose it.

"This scene shows one of the hidden events," Rei Akagi said.

At the same time, he rubbed Gastly in his arms, whose expression had stiffened from pretending to look serious for too long, signaling it to relax.

"When the official version releases, everyone can try participating in—or even altering—the storyline. You might find some unexpected rewards."

"As for that pink figure…"

He paused.

"It was indeed a Pokémon. And… a Legendary Pokémon. I won't spoil too much—go discover it yourselves."

The words "Legendary Pokémon" instantly detonated the entire livestream chat.

"LEGENDARY POKÉMON?! There are Legendary Pokémon in the game?!"

"Does that mean we might be able to travel together with one?!"

"Red sent a highlighted message:

So even if you don't intervene, Yellow can still be saved. I worried for nothing. Hurry up—let's get to Mt. Moon already!"

"THE RED LEGEND!!!"

"Holy—it's actually him! The real one!!!"

Rei Akagi naturally saw Red's impatient message.

He raised an eyebrow, his tone clearly dissatisfied.

"Hmph. You haven't even joined my Master Ball membership group, and you're already ordering me around? Send five Master Balls first before talking."

"What?! Teacher Salted Fish is this arrogant???"

"Oh no—run now, streamer! The Red Legend could punch you to death! Don't let him catch you, I haven't played the game yet!"

"Isn't the streamer a bit too arrogant? No matter what, you should show some respect to the Red Legend. Unfollowed! Oh wait—I wasn't even following."

"Exactly! Support Red Legend!"

"You're just a game developer—why act so cocky? Apologize to Red right now!"

In an instant, the chat exploded with controversy.

Trolls and confused viewers began stirring up chaos.

But the drama hadn't even lasted long—

"The Battler has joined the Master Ball Membership."

"The Battler sent ×5 Master Balls."

Highlighted message:

"Uh… sorry, Teacher Salted Fish. My account had no balance. I had to ask Green to top it up for me…"

The chat froze.

Then exploded.

"???"

"We were ready to fight to the death—why has Boss already surrendered?!"

"Mods! Ban the people stirring up drama earlier! Anyone who fell for it must either be stupid or malicious. The streamer got official authorization from Red himself to use his character in the game—how bad could their relationship be? Use your brains!"

"This move from Red… I'm dying of laughter! Poor Young Master Green forced to recharge his account!"

"Aiya~ Boss Red, what are you saying! If you tell me to go east, how would I dare go west?"

Rei Akagi instantly switched expressions like a Sichuan opera face-change.

Gastly matched his tone with an equally flattering grin.

"Thanks for the Master Balls, boss! Please send my regards to Green and the others. We'll push the main storyline now—right away!"

The chat filled with question marks again.

On screen, Red suddenly paused.

Then he sprang forward, flipping and vaulting through the forest with agile movements, heading straight for the exit.

He burst out of Viridian Forest and stepped into the territory of Pewter City.

After briefly reorganizing his team at the Pokémon Center, he skipped exploration and headed straight for the Gym to continue the main story.

And right at the Gym entrance—

Just as expected—

He ran into his rival,

Green.
