Chapter 40 - CHAPTER 79: The Bridge Complete

On Elara's fourth birthday, they returned to the third bond.

The lake in the Rocky Mountains was unchanged. The altar stood whole, the symbols glowing faintly beneath the water. But the presence beneath it—the bridge—was stronger now. Lyra could feel it the moment they arrived.

You brought the child, the voice said. Not aloud. Inside.

"Yes."

She is beautiful. She is what I was meant to be, before the hatred poisoned me.

Lyra knelt at the water's edge. Elara was in Kael's arms, watching the lake with curious eyes.

"Are you healed?" Lyra asked.

Almost. The child's existence strengthens me. Every wolf and vampire who chooses peace strengthens me. There are still those who hate. Still those who would see the old wars return. But they are fewer now. And growing fewer every day.

"What happens when you're fully healed?"

Then I become what I was always meant to be. A bridge. Permanent. Unbreakable. The old hatred will still exist—it cannot be destroyed, only transformed. But it will have no power here. Not anymore.

Lyra looked at Kael. He nodded.

"We're ready," she said.

The water glowed. The symbols blazed. And for a moment, Lyra felt something shift—not in the world, but in herself. A weight she hadn't known she was carrying, lifted.

It is done. The bridge is complete. Thank you.

They stayed at the lake until sunset. Elara dipped her toes in the water and laughed at the cold. Kael held Lyra's hand.

"What now?" he asked.

"Now we go home. And we keep living."

He kissed her. The sun set over the mountains. And the bridge beneath the water hummed with quiet joy.
