"How am I still alive? All the pain is gone. My body is no longer broken. The fatal wounds... that thing!" No, I am far from okay. "I am dead, aren't I?" he said to himself. "I was killed by that thing, but this feeling is different from death. It is so strange. But how do I know the feeling of death?"
So many questions flew through his mind as he thought to himself in the deafening silence that surrounded him. His white hair slowly covered his vision as he lowered his head with each thought. He slowly raised his head and pushed back his hair, but he wished he hadn't, because the first sight that greeted his vision was incomprehensible. Humanoid, silhouette-like figures with a dark, menacing power emitting from them; they got closer to him, but they didn't move. They glitched with dark energy and got closer and faster each time.
"Shit, what are those things? They keep getting closer!" As the hands of the thousands of monsters kept holding him and dragging him into the darkness: "I don't remember anything from before this horrible place. All I remember is that there's a force—a force that fights for and values all life. And if truly that force exists, please hear my cry. Don't let my story end here. Please!"
Suddenly, at a distance at the center of the darkness that was swallowing him whole, a spot of white light appeared. It was tiny, but it still shimmered in the darkness, so he fought with the last of his breath and he escaped the hands of the silhouettes. He sprinted as fast as he could towards the light. "That's right! It's been so long since I had started feeling despair. In fact, nearly all my memories are filled with one form of despair or another. But no more despair! From now on, I will embrace hope and my faith will be my ride or die till it's actually my time!" They pulled as hard as they could, but they were dragged into the light with him: the blinding white light.
"The light... look into the light. Never look away from it. Never..." A voice spoke softly, but with so much depth.
"Hey, dude, you are still alive, right? Wake up. Hey, Felix, wake up!" a boy with blonde hair said as he urged him to wake up.
Felix woke up. His head was a mess from the brutal beating he received, but what he saw at his bedside wasn't the boy. He saw the humanoid silhouettes everywhere in the room, glitching and moving in unnatural ways. And as the boy leaned in close, he said, "Felix, right? My name is Richard. Richard Knight." But to Felix, he saw a silhouette that did nothing but grin at him.
"What's happening? Have I lost it? What are those things? I need to get out of here!"
"So, what do you say? Will you join my gang?" Richard said, thinking that Felix was hearing a single word that came out of his mouth. Not seeing the distress on his face, Richard placed his hand on Felix's shoulder. "So, are you in?" he said, smiling towards him. But all Felix saw was the monster, and its cold touch sent a shiver down his spine. In self-defense, he bent its arm and broke it clean off.
It wasn't till his vision cleared and the silhouettes vanished that he had realized the gravity of what he did. As the silhouettes vanished, he saw a room of people with a horrified look on each of their faces as they looked towards him. He lowered his head to meet Richard and his ripped-off arm, which Felix held in his trembling hands. "What have I done?" he said to himself, his mind racing.
As Richard screamed, teachers arrived at the scene. One of the male teachers brought out his phone and called the police. Felix tried to explain, but no words came out, only stammers. From the crowd of teachers, a very familiar face appeared: it was the school's counselor.
"Okay, Felix, I want you to calm down. Take a deep breath."
"Miss Counselor..."
"Don't. No words." She stopped Felix from talking. "Just look at me and calm down. Everything is going to be fine," she said.
Felix started to calm down, but little did he know that she was trying to stall for time till the police arrived.
"Ma'am, they're here," the teacher that called the police moments ago said.
"Okay, Felix, this may seem new for you, but try to stay calm. Let them in," she said to the teacher as he escorted the two officers who arrived to the scene. They quickly dragged Felix off the bed and cuffed him.
"Young Mister Felix Uno, you're under arrest for the act: Grievous Bodily Harm of Young Mister Richard Knight. You have the right to stay silent. Anything you say or do will be used against you in the court of law."
The words that came out of the officer's mouth felt unreal to him. As they dragged him away, the horrified looks on everyone were like daggers of disapproval hitting him with each glare. The cops soon reached their vehicle and, as they shoved him in, they slammed the doors right on his face as he tried to say something.
"Save it, kid. As we said before, anything you say here will be nothing more of words that could convict you in court. Or do you think you can't go to prison because you're below eighteen? Wake up to reality, boy. You aren't a kid either, so best you shut up till we reach the station."
After a few minutes of driving, they soon arrived at the station. One of the officers opened the backseat door as he dragged him out of the car, slamming his chest onto the vehicle to make sure his cuffs were still on properly. As the other locked all the doors, they pushed and shoved him several times before they finally entered the station. Even though Felix was under eighteen, these officers took no pity on him and treated him like a real criminal.
As they entered the station bustling with dozens of cops, the two officers that brought him in took him to a front desk. Another officer sat at the desk. "Another juvenile delinquent? When will kids get tired of screwing around all the time?"
"We want to take him to an interrogation room. His case is a bit of a complicated one, so we need to clear up a few things before we make our decision."
"Whatever. Just make sure you guys don't go overboard and keep your cool."
As the officers took Felix to the interrogation room: "Okay, I want nothing but the absolute truth from you. What was your motive?"
The other officer said: "Were you on drugs? You take Cocaine, Xanax, any of that shit?"
Drugs? Do I look like someone that does drugs to him? Or maybe I do. I can't believe I actually ripped someone's arm right off. What is going to happen to me? He kept talking to himself in his head and completely zoned out.
"Hey, kid, I need an answer. You hear me, boy?"
"Of course he's on drugs. He is practically a zombie without them, as you can see."
"I am not an addict!" Felix screamed out in frustration.
"Don't worry, we are done questioning you. The next time you will be questioned will be in the courthouse, so better be prepared. Oh, and we are going to need a parent or legal guardian we can call over to the station and ask a few questions about your behavior and inform them about your situation," the first officer said as he brought out a land phone to dial the number he gave him.
Shortly after, a car Felix recognized pulled up to the parking lot of the station. Felix's heart raced because he knew who it was. The second she stepped in, he said, "Mom, I can explain."
