Chapter 8 - My Teenage Mistakes

The worst part wasn't even the heartbreak anymore—it was the war inside me.

On one side, there was everything he had done to me. The lies, the cheating, the way I had slowly lost myself loving someone who never truly chose me. I could still remember nights when I stared at my reflection and didn't recognize the girl looking back.

And on the other side… there was my heart.

Stupid. Loyal. Unwilling to let go.

"I hate you," I whispered one night, clutching my phone.

But when his name lit up my screen again, my fingers betrayed me.

I picked up.

"Hello?" his voice came, soft… familiar.

I stayed silent for a second.

"I know you're there," he said. "Please don't hang up this time."

"Why?" I finally replied, my voice colder than I felt. "So you can hurt me again?"

"I messed up," he sighed. "But I miss you."

That was it.

That one line broke all the walls I had built.

And just like that… I went back.

Like nothing had happened.

Like my pain had no memory.

We started talking again. Slowly at first… then like before. Late-night calls. Random texts. Laughing at things that didn't even make sense.

"See? We're good together," he said one night.

I smiled, even though he couldn't see it. "Yeah… maybe we are."

Maybe.

That word should have warned me.

For a while, everything felt perfect again. Almost like a dream I didn't want to wake up from.

Until one day…

Everything changed.

It started with something small.

"Why didn't you reply?" he texted.

"I was studying," I replied casually.

"Oh really? Or were you talking to someone else?"

I frowned. "What? No. What's wrong with you?"

"Don't act innocent," he snapped.

The tone in his voice was different. Sharp. Distant.

"I'm not doing this again," I said, trying to stay calm. "You're the one who—"

"Oh, so now everything is my fault?" he cut me off.

I went silent.

This felt familiar.

Too familiar.

"Say something!" he shouted.

"What do you want me to say?" I replied, my voice trembling now. "That I'm tired? That I keep forgiving you and you keep finding new ways to hurt me?"

There was a pause.

A long… suffocating pause.

Then he said, quietly—

"Maybe we shouldn't talk anymore."

My heart dropped.

"What…?" I whispered. "What do you mean?"

But he didn't reply.

Instead…

Message not delivered.

I frowned.

I tried calling.

Call failed.

WhatsApp.

Blocked.

Instagram.

User not found.

Snapchat.

Removed.

Everywhere.

Blocked.

Just like that.

No explanation.

No goodbye.

Nothing.

I sat there staring at my phone, my hands shaking.

"Are you serious…?" I whispered to myself.

Tears blurred my screen as realization hit me slowly, painfully.

He didn't leave in anger.

He didn't leave in confusion.

He chose to leave.

Again.

Days passed.

No calls.

No messages.

No him.

And yet…

He was everywhere in my mind.

In my habits.

In my silence.

One night, unable to hold it in anymore, I opened our old chat.

My fingers hovered over the screen.

Then I whispered softly—

"Why do you always come back… just to leave me worse than before?"

The question hung in the air.

Unanswered.

And just when I was about to close my phone…

A notification appeared.

Unknown Number:

"Miss me?"

My heart stopped.

To be continued…
