Hajin hit the crystal floor shoulder first, rolling with Didi tight against his chest until a pillar stopped them. Above their heads the whole Seat hung upside down, ten thousand stairs dangling like golden icicles from the roof.
"Ash?" he gasped, spitting blood onto the glass.
"Here, Dada, why are the stairs upside down?" the hatchling squeaked, peeling himself off Hajin's head with a wet pop.
Aria flickered in the dark above his shoulder. "Ribs?"
"Broken in about nine places, ask me later," Didi wheezed, hauling herself upright against the pillar.
