Chapter 34 - Chapter 34 The Invisible Hand

Olivia sat alone in the glass-walled office at the top floor of the building.

The city below looked alive—cars moving like glowing threads, buildings shining like silent witnesses. But inside the office, everything felt frozen.

Her fingers rested lightly on the edge of the desk, but her mind was far from calm.

Her phone vibrated.

One message.

"They accessed the files."

Olivia didn't move immediately.

She simply stared at it.

Then slowly, she exhaled.

"I know," she whispered to herself.

Her voice was calm, but her eyes weren't.

Because this wasn't part of the original plan.

Maya wasn't supposed to survive the trap with anything useful.

Ethan wasn't supposed to think clearly enough to fight back.

And Claire… was supposed to break easily.

But something had shifted.

Olivia tapped her screen and replied:

"Contain it."

A few seconds later, another message arrived.

"It's too late. The files were copied."

Olivia's expression changed slightly.

Not panic.

Not fear.

But calculation.

She leaned back in her chair slowly.

So Maya had succeeded.

The flash drive had made it out.

That meant the situation had officially escalated.

She stood up and walked toward the glass wall.

Below her, the world looked peaceful.

But Olivia knew better.

Peace was always temporary.

Her phone rang.

She answered immediately.

A deep voice came through.

"You let it happen."

Olivia didn't respond right away.

Then she said calmly:

"I controlled what I could."

A pause.

Then the voice replied:

"You said it would never leave the building."

Olivia's jaw tightened slightly.

"It didn't leave the system," she corrected. "It left through a person."

Silence.

Then the voice spoke again, colder this time.

"Fix it."

Olivia's grip on the phone tightened.

"How?"

Another pause.

Then:

"You know how."

The call ended.

Olivia stood still.

For a long moment, she didn't move at all.

Then she slowly placed the phone down.

Her reflection stared back at her from the glass wall.

Perfect posture. Calm face.

But inside…

Everything was shifting.

Because now there were only two options left:

Let Maya expose everything…

Or remove the problem entirely.

Meanwhile, across the city, Maya sat in Lina's small cybersecurity workspace.

Multiple monitors lit up the room with blue light.

Ethan stood behind her.

Claire sat in silence, arms wrapped tightly around herself.

Lina was typing rapidly.

Her face was serious.

"This is bigger than I thought," Lina said finally.

Maya looked up.

"What do you mean?"

Lina rotated the screen.

Rows of encrypted transactions filled the display.

"These aren't random transfers," Lina said. "They're structured. Organized. This is a network."

Ethan frowned.

"So Olivia is running it?"

Lina shook her head.

"That's the mistake people make when they see systems like this."

She zoomed in.

A repeating pattern appeared.

One name kept appearing behind multiple accounts—but always hidden, always encrypted.

UNKNOWN INVESTMENT GROUP.

Maya leaned closer.

"Who are they?"

Lina hesitated.

"That's the problem."

She looked at them seriously.

"I don't think Olivia is the head of this."

Silence filled the room.

Claire spoke quietly.

"So she's just… working for someone?"

Lina nodded slowly.

"A middle layer. Maybe even a pawn."

Ethan crossed his arms.

"That makes no sense. She has power."

Lina looked at him.

"Power doesn't mean control."

Maya stood up slowly.

"Then why set the trap?"

Lina turned back to the screen.

"To protect herself."

A pause.

Then she added:

"Or to protect someone else."

Maya felt a chill.

Because suddenly…

The story was no longer simple.

This wasn't just betrayal anymore.

It was something bigger.

Something dangerous.

And somewhere in that network…

Someone was watching all of them.

Back at Olivia's office.

She picked up her phone again.

This time, she made a call.

It rang once.

Twice.

Then someone answered.

"Yes?"

Olivia's voice lowered.

"They have the files."

A long silence followed.

Then the voice replied calmly:

"Then we proceed to phase two."

Olivia closed her eyes briefly.

Phase two.

She knew what that meant.

When she opened her eyes again, her expression was unreadable.

"Yes," she said softly.

"Phase two."

The line cut.

Olivia stood alone in silence.

Outside the glass wall, the city kept moving.

Unaware.

Unbothered.

But somewhere inside it—

A war had just moved into its next stage.

And Maya was now holding the only weapon that could end it.
