Chapter 87 - CHAPTER 77: WHEN LOVE BECOMES LOUDER (TODDLER YEARS)

👧🌿

Somehow, silence never lasted long in their home anymore. Not because something was wrong. But because someone small had discovered the joy of movement—and the absolute refusal to stay still.

"NOOOO—come back here!"

Kenzo's voice echoed through the hallway, somewhere between panic and laughter, the kind that only came from chasing something you loved too much to actually be upset with.

A second later— tiny, rapid footsteps followed. Light. Fast. Determined.

Sofia stood in the kitchen, holding a cup of coffee she had already reheated three times. The warmth barely mattered anymore. It was more of a ritual at this point—something to hold onto while the world around her moved at full speed.

She didn't even flinch. Didn't rush. Didn't react. Because this— this was normal now.

Right on cue, their daughter zoomed past the doorway, clutching a spoon like it was the most valuable object she had ever owned. Her laughter filled the space behind her, bright and unstoppable.

Kenzo followed close behind, slightly out of breath, his expression caught somewhere between amusement and disbelief.

"She stole my spoon again!" he called out, like this was a crime that needed immediate attention.

Sofia took a slow sip of her coffee, watching them pass like it was just another part of the day unfolding exactly as expected.

"She's your child," she replied calmly.

Kenzo stopped mid-step. Actually stopped. Turned his head toward her, narrowing his eyes slightly like he had just been personally betrayed by that statement.

"I don't remember consenting to this level of chaos."

From the living room, their daughter's giggles echoed again—louder this time, like she understood she was being talked about and fully supported it.

Then, just as suddenly— the spoon clattered to the floor. Abandoned. Mission complete.

Kenzo looked in that direction, then back at Sofia, his shoulders dropping as he let out an exaggerated sigh.

"Traitor."

Sofia laughed. Not the tired kind she had learned to fake through exhaustion. Not the small, polite version she gave when she didn't have the energy for more. This was real. Unfiltered. The kind that came from somewhere deep and didn't ask for permission.

And that— more than anything— made Kenzo pause. He didn't chase the spoon right away. Didn't say anything else. He just stood there for a moment, watching her. Because even now… he noticed those things. The difference in her laughter. The way her shoulders relaxed. The way her eyes softened when she wasn't carrying the weight of everything all at once.

It mattered to him. It always had. His expression changed quietly, the chaos of the moment fading just enough for something softer to take its place. Something steady. Something grateful.

Then, without making a big deal out of it, he walked back toward her instead. Not rushed. Not distracted. Just intentional. He leaned in slightly, brushing a quick, gentle kiss against her temple as he passed. Small. Easy. But full of meaning.

Sofia glanced at him, still smiling, her coffee forgotten for a second longer than usual.

And in the background, their daughter continued to move through the house—laughing, exploring, turning ordinary moments into something louder, brighter, fuller.

Their home wasn't quiet anymore. It wasn't still. It wasn't predictable. But it was alive.

And somewhere between the chaos, the laughter, the small interruptions and unfinished cups of coffee— they found something even better than peace. They found joy. Messy. Loud. Uncontrollable.

And completely theirs.
