Chapter 94 - 94: Poor Spider Doesn't Wanna Die

Crack…

After punching in the code, Ivan pushed open the door and stepped into Choi's room.

The place was dimly lit and stank like absolute shit. The thick, metallic reek of rotting blood hung heavy in the air. Ivan knew that smell all too well.

He followed the stench and found Choi lying in a puddle of his own blood.

The bastard's mouth and nose were wrapped tight with duct tape, but he wasn't dead. Pyeon Sang-wook had him pinned under his foot like a dirty doormat.

Slurp. Slurp. Pyeon Sang-wook sat on a chair, casually eating instant noodles while watching the emergency alert replay on TV.

"This your handiwork?" Pyeon Sang-wook kicked Choi Young-jae over to Ivan's feet.

"What's it got to do with me? Even the military doesn't understand this apocalypse. Besides, the infection doesn't spread through air or blood," Ivan said with a smirk.

He grabbed a pack of instant noodles from the table, tore it open, and poured in hot water.

"From what we know, desire is the main trigger. Maybe this piece of shit wanted to run away so badly that it finally pushed him over the edge."

Ivan's explanation made sense. Pyeon Sang-wook couldn't argue.

"So what are you gonna do with him?" Pyeon Sang-wook put down his noodles and pulled out a cigarette pack. When he realized it was empty, he cursed under his breath and tossed it aside.

"You don't need to know that."

"Don't let him out of this room. If you do, you and I are gonna have problems," Pyeon Sang-wook said, stepping right up to Ivan. His eyes were cold as he stared the doctor down.

He didn't know exactly what Ivan was planning, but he knew one thing for sure: if Choi Young-jae fully turned, he'd become a massive threat to everyone left in the building.

"Relax. He's not leaving this room alive," Ivan replied, picking up the cup of noodles and sitting in the chair Pyeon Sang-wook had just left.

Pyeon Sang-wook gave a small nod, then crushed the empty cigarette pack and threw it in the trash before walking out.

The second the door closed, Ivan turned his full attention to the bloody mess at his feet. Choi was just one step away from complete transformation. Ivan was curious as hell to see what kind of twisted ability this pathetic fucker's desire would create.

...

During the time Ivan was eating his noodles, a notification popped up on his panel.

Rip!

Choi's body on the floor started twisting violently. He thrashed against the duct tape, and thick, turtle-like shells burst out of his skin, ripping the tape apart. His limbs morphed into razor-sharp blades that stabbed into the floor.

"No one can hurt me! I'm going to slaughter every last one of you!"

His head deformed into a grotesque worm shape covered in spikes. It was fucking disgusting.

"Still a failure," Ivan sighed. His plan hadn't worked. The long torture had twisted the guy's desire into "I don't want to be hurt" instead. Combined with his deep-seated urge to torture others, this was the ugly result.

"Hehehe… Everything you did to me, I'm going to pay you back tenfold!" Choi snarled and lunged at Ivan.

In a flash, the spiky worm shot toward him, mouth wide open and full of teeth, reeking of rot.

"Idiot. You really thought I didn't prepare for this?" Ivan said coldly.

The second the words left his mouth, Choi sensed something was wrong. Pure terror filled his single eye. "No one can hurt me! No one can hurt me!"

The next second, the flesh bomb Ivan had planted inside him detonated.

Countless razor blades exploded outward, shredding everything—organs, flesh, bones—into paste. In just a few breaths, Choi was reduced to nothing but a pile of twitching meat covered in broken turtle shell, screaming in agony and despair.

The chunks were still moving though. Given enough time, the bastard might actually regenerate.

Too bad Ivan wasn't going to give him the chance.

Four vertical slits opened on both sides of Ivan's neck.

Blinding blue lasers burst out and swept over the pile of meat, burning it into black charcoal. Not a single living cell survived.

"Finding a monster whose desire is just 'I don't want to die' is way harder than it should be," Ivan muttered, shaking his head. He grabbed a broom and dustpan, swept up the charred remains, and dumped them into the trash.

...

On the other side of the building, Cha Hyun-soo and the others ran into Seo Yi-kyung, who had just barely escaped with her life.

Yoon Ji-soo offered to take Seo Yi-kyung up to Han Du-sik's room to rest. Jung Jae-heon didn't want her going alone, so he frowned at Cha Hyun-soo.

"You go help her. I'll be fine by myself. Besides, I've got this," Cha Hyun-soo said, gripping his electric pipe tightly.

"May the Lord protect you," Jung Jae-heon said.

After watching the two women help Seo Yi-kyung away, Cha Hyun-soo turned and headed downstairs. When he reached the ninth-floor hallway, a sudden bad feeling hit him.

He looked around carefully. When nothing appeared, he kept walking.

He had no idea that inside a room not far ahead, a spider-like monster was patiently waiting for its next prey to walk right into its trap.

"Again…" Cha Hyun-soo wiped the fresh blood from his nose, ignoring the hallucinations dancing in front of his eyes and the constant whispering in his ears. As he walked past an open door, a thick strand of spider silk shot out from the pitch-black room like a goddamn lasso.

It wrapped tight around his neck.

Cha Hyun-soo's first reaction was to run, but the silk was ridiculously strong. Even when he leaned his whole body forward, he couldn't stop himself from being dragged into the dark room.

Bang!

He crashed hard onto the floor. The crushing pressure around his throat made blood vessels burst across his eyes. Every shallow breath burned like fire in his lungs as the air got thinner.

At the same time, the hallucinations in front of him became sharper and more vivid.

Right before he passed out, a scalpel flew in from the hallway, flashing coldly as it sliced through the silk in one clean cut.

"I don't want to die… I don't want to die…" the spider monster muttered from inside the room.

A spark of pure excitement flashed in Ivan Greevs' eyes. Jackpot. He never expected a silk-spitting freak to carry the exact desire he'd been looking for.

Ivan walked over, bent down, picked up the scalpel from the floor, and looked at Cha Hyun-soo. "You alright? Can you stand?"

"Cough… cough… Yeah, I'm good," Cha Hyun-soo wheezed, holding his chest as he forced himself up off the floor.
