Chapter 17 - Three Threads Entwine

Kai sat alone in his small dormitory room, the weight of the Meditation of Fate still lingering in his body. The white tips in his hair and the faint purple tint on his skin were constant reminders that he was changing. The new ability — Divine Fate Control — pulsed inside him like a dormant star, waiting to be used for the first time.

He closed his eyes and activated it.

A surge of silver energy flooded his mind. The world around him dissolved, and a vision of the future unfolded before him with brutal clarity.

He saw Lirael.

She was no longer the shy, trembling semi-elf he had met. She sat on a throne made of blackened bones and swirling shadows, her silver hair flowing like a crown of night, longer and wilder than before. Her violet eyes glowed with dark power, and a macabre, twisted smile curved her lips — a smile full of pain, rage, and cold satisfaction.

Around her, hundreds of demons knelt in perfect silence. Their forms were monstrous, some with horns, others with wings of shadow, all radiating dark spiritual energy. At her right hand stood the Spiritual King, his crimson eyes glowing with absolute loyalty.

Lirael rose slowly from the throne, her voice echoing across the dark hall like a queen addressing her legions.

Humanity has hunted us for centuries. They called us impure. They called us monsters. Today, we show them what a true monster looks like. We will burn their cities. We will shatter their false gods. We will make them kneel before the darkness they tried to suppress.

Her smile widened, macabre and beautiful at the same time.

Attack.

The demons roared as one, surging forward like a tide of shadows.

The vision shifted, showing entire human kingdoms falling, flames consuming everything, and Lirael watching from above with that same twisted smile.

Then the vision shattered.

Kai gasped, opening his eyes. His body was covered in cold sweat. The system chimed urgently in his mind.

Destiny Change Detected. If this path continues unchanged, Lirael Sylvaine will become the Dark Queen of the Abyss — a ruler who leads an army of demons against humanity with a twisted smile. Do you wish to alter this fate thread?

Kai took a deep breath and asked mentally.

System, what happens if I don't intervene at all?

The system responded immediately, its tone colder and more clinical than usual.

Warning: Full Unaltered Path Simulation.

In the vision that followed, Kai saw a different but equally dark future.

Lirael, pushed to her limit by constant bullying and humiliation from the pure-blooded elves, finally snapped in the middle of the academy plaza. She summoned the Spiritual King in public to defend herself. The King, acting on her suppressed rage, slaughtered the five elves who had attacked her. The entire academy witnessed the massacre.

Lirael was immediately expelled. Her elven father, terrified of the scandal and the prophecy coming true, publicly disowned her. Her brothers and sisters turned their backs on her, calling her a monster and a stain on the family name.

Alone, broken, and branded as the impure one who brings death, Lirael wandered the outer ruins. The constant rejection, the whispers, the fear in everyone's eyes… it all ate away at her gentle heart until almost nothing remained.

The Spiritual King, watching his little one suffer day after day, finally spoke with a voice full of dark pity.

You have endured enough, little one. Let me take the pain away.

He reached into her chest and pulled out every last drop of suppressed rage, sadness, and hatred she had buried for years. The darkness flooded her completely. Her violet eyes turned pitch black, her silver hair streaked with crimson, and her gentle soul twisted into something monstrous and empty.

She became a demon walking in elven skin — cold, hollow, and unstoppable.

The vision ended.

Kai opened his eyes, his heart pounding. The system continued.

Path Confirmed. Without intervention, Lirael Sylvaine will be expelled after the massacre, abandoned by her family, publicly shamed, and eventually overtaken by the Spiritual King. He will force the darkness in her heart to surface completely, turning her into a demon in human form. The kind, shy girl you know will cease to exist.

Kai clenched his fists. He couldn't allow that future.

He left his room and headed straight toward the scholarship wing.

When he arrived at the corridor near Lirael's room, he found the two girls already there.

Lyra was leaning against the wall with her arms crossed, her crimson eyes narrowed. Lirael stood a few steps away, clutching her books tightly to her chest, silver hair partially hiding her face. The tension between them was thick and uncomfortable.

The moment Kai appeared, both girls turned toward him.

Lyra's gaze immediately went to his changed appearance — the white-tipped hair, the paler skin with purple undertone, and the half-violet eye. Her expression shifted from annoyance to a mix of worry and jealousy.

What happened to you? she asked, voice low but sharp. She stepped closer, reaching out to touch the white strands in his hair. You look… different. More dangerous. Did that meditation do this?

Lirael's violet eyes widened as she looked at him. She didn't speak at first, but her cheeks flushed a soft pink. She took a small, hesitant step forward, then stopped, clearly torn between wanting to get closer and wanting to disappear.

The three of them stood in the narrow corridor, the air heavy with awkward silence.

Lyra was clearly irritated by Lirael's presence, her fiery thread pulsing with possessiveness. Lirael looked overwhelmed, her shy nature making every second feel torturous, while her growing obsession with Kai made her want to stay anyway. Kai stood in the middle, feeling both threads pulling at him — one burning hot, the other quiet and dark.

Lirael finally spoke, her voice barely above a whisper.

I… I was looking for you. I wanted to thank you again for today. But… I see you already have company.

Lyra clicked her tongue, her arms tightening across her chest.

You don't have to thank him every five minutes, little mouse. He already knows.

Lirael flinched, shrinking into herself, but she didn't leave. Her violet eyes kept darting to Kai, filled with quiet gratitude and something deeper, more intense.

Kai sighed softly, trying to ease the tension.

Both of you, relax. We're all on the same side here. Lirael, you don't have to apologize for everything. Lyra, she's not intruding.

The silence that followed was even more uncomfortable. Lyra glared at Lirael with open jealousy. Lirael stared at the floor while stealing quick, almost hungry glances at Kai. Kai felt the weight of both their emotions pressing down on him, creating a tension so thick it was almost suffocating.

Lirael's hands trembled. She took a small step closer to Kai, her voice soft and hesitant.

Kai… you are the first person who has ever defended me like that. I… I think I want you to be my friend. If… if that is okay.

Lyra's eyes narrowed dangerously. The jealousy was unmistakable now.

Kai nodded, keeping his voice calm.

It's more than okay.

The three of them stood there, the corridor feeling smaller than ever. Lyra's possessive energy clashed with Lirael's shy but growing obsession, creating a tension so thick it was almost suffocating.

Lirael's cheeks burned red. She looked down, fidgeting with the hem of her uniform, but a small, soft smile appeared on her lips for the briefest moment.

Kai… she whispered almost to herself.

Outside the corridor, the academy continued its normal rhythm, unaware that a new thread of fate had just been woven — one that could change everything.

The lioness was not the only one beginning to burn for the Fatebreaker.

And the silver-haired girl was slowly, quietly, becoming obsessed with the one person who had chosen to save her from her own dark future.

The real war inside these walls had only just begun.
