Chapter 24 - Chapter 23 – Entry

Night made everything quieter.

Not safer.

Just quieter.

The restricted zone stood exactly as it had earlier—sealed, marked, and ignored by anyone with sense.

Barriers hummed faintly across the perimeter, thin layers of energy stretching through the air like something invisible was being held in place.

Or held back.

Kael stopped a few meters away.

He didn't rush.

Didn't hesitate either.

His eyes moved once across the area.

Left.

Right.

Above.

No instructors.

No patrols.

Just the low distortion in the air where the Rift pulsed beyond the barrier.

"…so this is it."

No system message.

No warning.

Good.

He stepped forward.

The closer he got, the heavier the air felt.

Not pressure.

Resistance.

Like the space itself didn't want him moving any further.

Kael raised his hand slightly.

The barrier reacted.

A faint ripple spread across its surface as his fingers hovered just short of touching it.

He watched it carefully.

Not forcing.

Studying.

"…you're not perfect."

His hand shifted slightly to the side.

Then again.

The resistance changed.

Just a little.

Barely noticeable.

That was enough.

Kael stepped in.

The barrier pushed back for a fraction of a second—

then gave.

The space distorted around him as he passed through, the energy folding briefly before snapping back into place behind him like nothing had happened.

Kael didn't turn around.

The moment he crossed—

everything changed.

The silence wasn't quiet anymore.

It was empty.

The ground beneath his feet stretched unevenly, cracked in places where faint light pulsed from below. The air shimmered slightly, bending at the edges of his vision like heat that never settled.

Kael took one step forward.

Then another.

No system.

No guidance.

"…good."

His voice came out softer than expected, like the space absorbed it before it could travel.

He kept moving.

Slow.

Controlled.

Then—

something shifted.

Kael stopped instantly.

A sound.

Sharp.

Close.

He turned.

Nothing.

Then—

to his right.

Movement.

Fast.

Kael reacted on instinct.

His body shifted just enough to avoid the strike, something tearing through the air where he had been standing a second earlier.

It landed several meters away.

Low.

Distorted.

The creature rose slowly.

Lean.

Too lean.

Its limbs stretched slightly longer than they should, its joints bending just a little too far. Its form flickered faintly, like it wasn't fully stable inside this space.

Its eyes locked onto him.

Kael watched it.

Still.

"…so it starts immediately."

The creature lunged.

Fast.

Kael moved.

Forward.

The distance collapsed between them in a single motion.

His hand tightened—

and the dagger formed.

The Pulse Dagger appeared instantly, its edge glowing faintly as it stabilized in his grip.

Kael struck.

The blade cut across the creature's side—

Pulse.

A sharp burst of energy exploded from the point of contact, throwing the creature off its path mid-attack. Its body twisted unnaturally as it hit the ground, sliding before catching itself.

Kael didn't chase.

He watched.

The creature recovered quickly.

Faster than expected.

"…good."

It lunged again.

Lower this time.

Smarter.

Kael adjusted.

A step to the side—

then forward.

The dagger moved again.

Contact.

Pulse.

The creature staggered.

Open.

Kael didn't waste it.

A second strike.

Clean.

Precise.

The body dropped.

Silence returned.

Kael stood still, his breathing steady, his eyes scanning the space again.

One enemy.

Gone.

No system message.

No level up.

Nothing.

Kael lowered the dagger slightly.

"…so that's how it is."

No rewards.

No shortcuts.

Just this.

Something shifted deeper inside the Rift.

Not close.

Not immediate.

But there.

Kael lifted his gaze.

Further in.

"…then I keep going."

No hesitation.

No second thought.

He stepped forward again.

Deeper.

Into a place that didn't belong to him.

And didn't want him there.
