Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 – The Line He Crossed

The fight didn't stay clean.

It never does.

Kael closed the distance fast.

Too fast.

One opponent raised his weapon—

Too late.

Kael struck—

Wrist snapped sideways—

Weapon dropped—

Knee drove up—

Impact.

The second tried to flank.

Kael didn't turn.

Didn't need to.

His body shifted—

A half-step—

Just enough.

Attack missed.

Again.

He grabbed.

Pulled.

Used momentum—

Sent the attacker crashing into the first.

The third activated another pulse—

Stronger.

Wider.

Kael didn't dodge.

Not fully.

The impact hit.

Threw him back.

Pain flared—

Sharp.

Real.

He hit the ground.

Hard.

Silence rang in his ears.

For a moment…

Everything slowed.

And then—

Something inside him… tightened.

Not anger.

Not fear.

Decision.

He stood.

Slowly.

The system didn't appear.

Didn't speak.

But he felt it.

Waiting.

Kael exhaled.

And stepped forward again.

This time—

Different.

His movements lost their softness.

Their hesitation.

The first attacker rushed—

Kael didn't redirect.

Didn't deflect.

He struck.

Direct.

Impact landed harder than before.

Not just precise—

decisive.

The man dropped.

Didn't get up.

The second froze.

Just for a second.

That was enough.

Kael closed the gap—

Hand to shoulder—

Turn—

Drive—

Down.

The third backed up.

Actually backed up.

Fear.

Real fear.

Kael stepped forward.

And stopped.

The line was there.

Invisible.

But clear.

One more step…

And something changes.

The man raised his weapon again—

Hands shaking now—

Kael looked at him.

Really looked.

Then—

Lowered his hand.

"…leave," he said.

The man didn't hesitate.

He ran.

Silence returned.

Again.

Behind him—

The girl spoke.

Soft.

"…why did you help me?"

Kael didn't turn.

"…you were there."

Not kindness.

Not heroism.

Just… fact.

Across the broken hallway, more students stared now.

Whispers starting.

Eyes changing.

One of the chosen stood there.

Watching.

Confused.

"…he wasn't selected," someone whispered.

Another voice:

"…then why does it feel like he's stronger than us?"

Kael walked away.

Again.

But this time…

He wasn't invisible anymore.
