Between those stars, countless strings of silver light were woven into a beautiful and inconceivably complex net, forming various nexuses and constellations. It was truly breathtaking.

He stared into the swirling darkness of the temple's rafters, trying to comprehend the cataclysm unfolding inside him. The sensation was not one of agony or the biting cold of Barnes's steel; instead, it was a feeling like nothing he had ever known. It was as though his very soul were being shaken awake, infused with a strange, burgeoning energy.
This power did not descend from the heavens or crawl from the earth. It erupted from within, rising from a hidden depth as if it had been sleeping there since the moment of his birth.
The energy flooded every fiber of his being. Blaze felt his emotions—his rage, his grief for Anna, his terror—becoming unnervingly clear and sharp, honed like a razor. Then, the physical transformation began.
A miniature star ignited in the center of his chest. It burned with a fierce, celestial intensity, radiating waves of heat that surged through his midsection before racing toward his shoulders. The warmth flooded his arms and legs, eventually reaching the tips of his missing fingers and the stumps where his feet once were.
Under the influence of that divine heat, the impossible happened.
His bones, muscles, organs, and blood vessels were being rebuilt and revitalized at a molecular level. The maggots that had been feasting on his flesh were incinerated in an instant, turned to ash by the sheer temperature of his skin. Blaze felt himself being reborn—molded into something stronger, faster, and infinitely more dangerous.
It was euphoric, he realized, the word echoing through his mind as the pain finally vanished.
As the transformation reached its peak, Blaze's consciousness was pulled inward, plunging deep into his own Soul Sea. What he saw there stunned him.
Most cultivators or warriors possessed a soul sea that resembled a calm, blue expanse of water. Blaze's inner world was a nightmare of fire. It was a vast, roiling ocean covered in Blazing Flames, the water replaced by liquid orange fire that licked at a sky of smoke.
Strewn across the charred floor of his soul were the remains of countless battles—bones lay everywhere, bleached white against the flickering orange glow. In the exact center of this inferno hung a bright, pulsing star, and orbiting it were the fragments of his memories, glowing like embers.
Blaze looked upon the scorched landscape of his own spirit and felt a chill that even the flames could not warm.
Horrifying, he thought, watching the fire consume the horizon of his mind. Let's hope nobody ever tries to invade my Soul Sea. If they do, their death is certain.
