Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: What Comes Out

Chapter 10: What Comes Out

Karan couldn't look away from the mirror.

He wanted to.

Every instinct in his body screamed at him to turn, to shut his eyes, to break whatever connection was forming between him and that reflection.

But he didn't.

He couldn't.

Because this time—

It wasn't just showing him something.

It was happening.

---

Inside the mirror, Atharav stood perfectly still.

Calm.

Composed.

Watching.

---

And behind him—

The door had opened.

---

Not the one in the corridor.

Not the one Karan had refused to open.

---

A different door.

---

One that existed only inside the reflection.

---

Karan's throat went dry.

"…what is that?"

---

Atharav didn't answer immediately.

His gaze remained fixed on Karan.

Almost… curious.

---

«"You really don't remember, do you?"»

---

Karan clenched his fists.

"Stop saying that and tell me what's happening!"

---

Atharav's expression didn't change.

But something in his eyes shifted.

Slightly.

---

«"You broke the surface rule," he said quietly.

"So now… it follows the deeper one."»

---

Karan's chest tightened.

"What does that even mean?!"

---

Atharav turned his head slowly.

Looking behind him.

At the door.

---

It creaked open further.

The darkness inside wasn't empty.

It moved.

---

Karan's breath hitched.

"No…"

---

A shape formed within the darkness.

Vague.

Distorted.

Like something trying to take form.

---

Karan stumbled back slightly.

His heart hammering violently.

"Close it," he whispered. "Close the door…"

---

Atharav looked back at him.

---

«"You think I control it?"»

---

Silence.

---

The shape stepped forward.

Half-visible now.

---

Karan's vision blurred for a second.

Because it didn't make sense.

It couldn't.

---

The figure—

Looked like him.

---

But not entirely.

---

Its posture was wrong.

Its movements delayed.

Its face—

Incomplete.

---

Like it hadn't finished becoming him yet.

---

"No…" Karan whispered, shaking his head.

---

The figure took another step.

Crossing the threshold.

---

And then—

It was inside the mirror.

Fully.

---

Karan's breathing stopped.

---

Because now—

There were three versions.

---

Him.

Atharav.

And—

That thing.

---

The thing turned its head slowly.

Looking directly at Karan.

---

Its lips moved.

---

But no sound came out.

---

Karan's chest tightened painfully.

"What… what is that?"

---

Atharav finally answered.

---

«"That's what you left behind."»

---

The words hit like a blow.

---

Karan shook his head violently.

"No, I didn't leave anything!"

---

«"You left everything."»

---

Silence.

---

Karan's thoughts scattered.

Nothing made sense.

Nothing connected.

---

"Explain it!" he shouted.

---

Atharav's gaze didn't waver.

---

«"When you ran," he said slowly,

"you didn't take all of yourself with you."»

---

Karan froze.

---

"…what?"

---

«"You left pieces."»

---

A chill spread through his body.

---

«"Memories. Promises. Fear."»

---

The thing inside the mirror moved again.

Stepping closer.

---

Karan instinctively stepped back.

---

«"And now," Atharav continued,

"they're trying to come back."»

---

The word echoed.

---

Back.

---

Karan's breathing became uneven.

"This isn't real…"

---

«"It is."»

---

"No!"

---

His voice cracked.

---

"I didn't leave anything behind! I don't even remember—"

---

«"Exactly."»

---

Silence.

---

The thing raised its hand slowly.

Mirroring Karan.

---

But delayed.

---

Karan lowered his hand.

The thing didn't.

---

It kept moving.

---

Closer.

---

Its palm pressed against the glass.

---

Karan's breath hitched.

---

Cracks spread instantly.

From the point of contact.

---

The mirror trembled.

---

"No… not again…"

---

Atharav stepped aside.

Making space.

---

«"This is the part where you panic," he said calmly.»

---

Karan turned toward him.

"What do I do?!"

---

For the first time—

Atharav hesitated.

Just slightly.

---

«"That depends," he said.

"Do you want to remember… or survive?"»

---

Karan froze.

---

"…what?"

---

«"You don't get both."»

---

Silence.

---

The cracks spread faster now.

The mirror shaking violently.

---

The thing pressed harder.

---

Its face clearer now.

---

And Karan realized—

---

It wasn't just him.

---

It was him—

Afraid.

---

The exact expression.

The exact moment.

---

The same fear he felt now.

---

Trapped.

Left behind.

---

"No…" Karan whispered.

---

A memory flickered.

---

Dark room.

A hand reaching.

His hand.

Pulling away.

---

"I didn't…"

---

«"You did."»

---

Atharav's voice was quieter now.

Almost… serious.

---

«"You chose yourself."»

---

Karan's chest tightened painfully.

"I was a kid!"

---

«"And she wasn't?"»

---

The words cut deep.

---

Karan flinched.

---

The mirror cracked further.

Pieces starting to fall—

But not completely.

Still suspended.

Still connected.

---

The thing pushed harder.

---

Its fingers began to break through.

---

Reaching.

---

Karan stumbled back.

"No… stay away…"

---

«"It's not chasing you," Atharav said quietly.»

---

Karan turned toward him.

"What?"

---

«"It's trying to become you again."»

---

Silence.

---

Karan's breath caught.

---

"…why?"

---

Atharav looked at him directly.

---

«"Because you're incomplete."»

---

The word echoed.

---

Incomplete.

---

Karan's mind reeled.

---

Everything he had seen.

Everything he had felt.

---

It wasn't random.

---

It wasn't just horror.

---

It was—

Him.

---

Breaking apart.

---

And coming back together.

---

The wrong way.

---

The mirror finally shattered.

---

This time—

The pieces fell.

---

And the thing stepped out.

---

Fully.

---

Standing in the room.

---

Facing him.

---

Karan couldn't move.

Couldn't breathe.

Couldn't think.

---

Because it looked exactly like him now.

---

Perfect.

---

Except—

Its eyes.

---

They weren't empty.

---

They were filled with something else.

---

Something Karan hadn't allowed himself to feel.

---

Pain.

---

Deep.

Endless.

Unresolved.

---

The other Karan took a step forward.

---

Karan stepped back.

---

«"You left me there."»

---

The voice wasn't accusing.

---

It was stating a fact.

---

And somehow—

That made it worse.

---

Karan's lips trembled.

"I didn't know…"

---

«"You knew enough."»

---

Another step closer.

---

Karan's back hit the wall.

---

No escape.

---

«"You heard her."»

---

The words hit like echoes from Chapter 9.

---

«"You promised."»

---

Karan's eyes filled with tears.

---

"I was scared…"

---

The other Karan stopped.

Right in front of him.

---

«"So was she."»

---

Silence.

---

Karan broke.

---

"I didn't mean to leave her!"

---

The words tore out of him.

Raw.

Real.

---

For the first time—

Everything felt true.

---

The other Karan watched him.

Closely.

---

«"Then why didn't you come back?"»

---

Karan's voice dropped.

Barely a whisper.

---

"…I forgot."

---

Silence.

---

Heavy.

Final.

---

The other Karan tilted his head slightly.

---

«"And now you remember."»

---

Karan nodded slowly.

Tears falling.

---

"Yes…"

---

The room shifted.

---

The air changed.

---

Everything felt—

Different.

---

Like something had unlocked.

---

But instead of relief—

---

The house responded.

---

A loud creak echoed through the corridor.

---

Another door opened.

---

Somewhere.

---

Atharav's voice came from behind.

---

«"That's the second rule."»

---

Karan didn't turn.

---

"…what rule?"

---

Silence.

---

Then—

---

«"Once you remember…"»

---

A pause.

---

And then—

---

«"It gets worse."»

---
