Chapter 6 - chapter seven

A Marriage of Silence

The wedding was… perfect.

At least, to everyone watching.

The vows were exchanged.

The celebrations were grand.

The smiles were convincing.

Nothing was missing.

Except—

Something neither of them spoke about.

Love.

The honeymoon followed, just as planned.

Beautiful places.

Private moments.

Two people finally alone together.

But even in that quiet closeness—

There was distance.

Seraphina gave him respect.

Complete, unwavering respect.

She listened to him.

Spoke gently.

Never crossed a line.

Never demanded more than what he was willing to give.

But that was all she gave.

Respect.

Not love.

Adrian noticed.

Of course he did.

It was in the way she looked at him.

Calm.

Polite.

Distant.

Like a partner.

Not a lover.

Their marriage began to feel like an agreement.

A careful, silent contract.

Two people doing what was expected.

Nothing more.

Weeks passed.

They shared a home.

Shared meals.

Shared conversations.

But not—

Themselves.

Two weeks into the marriage—

They had not yet come together as husband and wife.

Adrian tried.

More than once.

But every time—

Something stopped him.

Not exhaustion.

Not hesitation.

Her.

Or rather—

The absence of her.

Because in those moments—

His mind betrayed him.

It was not Seraphina he saw.

It was Elara.

And that truth—

Was something he could not ignore.

So he stopped trying.

Seraphina noticed.

She said nothing at first.

But silence, too, has a breaking point.

Eventually—

The concern reached his grandfather.

"Why marry her," the old man asked firmly,

"if you will not treat her as your wife?"

Adrian had no answer.

"Marriage is not business," his grandfather continued.

"It is life. It is family. I expect grandchildren—not distance."

The words stayed with him.

And for the first time—

Adrian began to question himself.

Not what he felt.

But what he was doing.

Elsewhere—

Life was very different.

Daniel did not hold back.

He loved Elara openly.

Simply.

Completely.

He helped her with everything.

Cooking.

Cleaning.

Even the smallest tasks—

He shared them.

Not because he had to.

But because he wanted to.

And Elara—

She accepted it all.

Quietly.

Respectfully.

At night—

She gave herself to him without resistance.

Without complaint.

Not out of passion.

But commitment.

Weeks passed into months.

And then—

One morning—

Everything changed.

"Elara…"

Daniel's voice was soft, uncertain.

She looked at him.

Nervous.

"I think…" she whispered,

"…I'm pregnant."

Silence filled the room.

Daniel stared at her.

Then slowly—

A smile formed.

Not loud.

Not overwhelming.

But real.

"You're sure?"

She nodded.

And in that moment—

Something settled inside him.

She was his.

Not just by promise.

Not just by memory.

But now—

By life.

Still—

He knew the truth.

She did not love him the way he loved her.

But she respected him.

Stayed with him.

Chose him.

And to Daniel—

That was enough.

"I will take care of you," he said quietly.

And he meant it.

Yvonne remained in the background.

Always close.

Always present.

She helped Daniel with work.

Supported him financially.

Made things easier for him in ways he never fully questioned.

To him—

She was kindness.

To herself—

She was something else.

A woman in love with a man who would never be hers.

Sometimes she called him.

Sometimes she found reasons to see him.

Never crossing the line.

But always near it.

Waiting.

Hoping.

Even when she knew better.

Back in the Laurent home—

Three weeks passed.

Then more.

One morning—

Something shifted.

Adrian woke up—

And for the first time—

He looked at his wife.

Truly looked at her.

She was beautiful.

Graceful.

Patient.

And still—

There.

Waiting.

Without complaint.

Something inside him changed.

Not love.

Not suddenly.

But decision.

He reached for her.

Gently.

Carefully.

And this time—

He did not stop.

That night—

Their marriage was finally fulfilled.

Seraphina closed her eyes—

Not in sadness.

But in relief.

Because finally—

Something had begun.

She held onto that moment.

That small shift.

And for the first time—

She allowed herself to hope.

Adrian lay beside her—

Silent.

Not thinking of the past.

Not allowing himself to.

Because now—

There was only one truth left.

"She is my wife."

And whether love came or not—

That responsibility remained.

And somewhere else—

In a quieter home—

Daniel sat beside Elara.

His hand resting gently over hers.

She carried his child.

His future.

His world.

And whatever she felt—

Or did not feel—

He would love her anyway.

Without regret.

Without condition.

Because to him—

She was everything.
