Chapter 11 - Chapter 11 – The Next Phase

The night felt heavier than before.

Not because of the silence.

But because of what it carried.

We didn't move immediately.

Neither of us spoke.

I was still sitting beside her, my back against the cold wall, trying to steady my breathing.

The pain in my body hadn't faded yet, but it was no longer the problem.

What stayed… was something else.

I kept looking at my hand.

At the mark.

It looked the same.

But it didn't feel the same.

"…Stop staring at it like that."

Her voice was weak, but clearer than before.

I glanced at her.

She was sitting up now, leaning slightly against the wall.

Still pale.

Still injured.

But awake.

"…It's different," I said quietly.

"It always is after the first kill."

I frowned.

"…You knew?"

She looked down for a moment, then nodded.

"…I've seen it before."

Something about that answer didn't sit right with me.

"…Seen it… or done it?"

Silence.

She didn't answer immediately.

Then, slowly

"…I survived."

That was enough.

I looked away.

No judgment.

No questions.

Because I understood now.

This world didn't leave space for innocence.

"…We don't have time to rest," she said after a moment.

"…You can barely move."

"I can move enough."

I exhaled slowly.

She was right.

We didn't know what would come next.

And if this "Phase one" was over…

Then something worse was coming.

As if responding to that thought

The mark burned again.

Both of us reacted instantly.

"…You felt that?"

"…Yeah."

The air shifted.

Subtle.

But unmistakable.

Then the voice returned.

"Phase two initiated."

My body tensed.

"Participants remaining: 143."

My breath caught.

"…143?"

That number felt wrong.

Too big.

Too real.

"New condition: Group conflict enabled."

I frowned.

"…What does that mean?"

She looked at me.

Her expression serious.

"…It means this isn't one-on-one anymore."

Silence.

"…They'll start forming groups."

"…And killing in teams."

The weight of those words settled immediately.

Great.

"So now it's worse."

"…Much worse."

We both stood up slowly.

My body protested, but I ignored it.

Standing still was no longer an option.

"…We need information," she said.

"…And distance from open areas."

"…You mean hide."

"…I mean survive."

Fair enough.

We started moving.

Slower than before.

More careful.

The city hadn't changed.

People still walked around us.

Lights still filled the streets.

But now I could see it differently.

Anyone.

Any face.

Any stranger

Could be part of this.

"…Do you trust me?"

I asked suddenly.

She didn't answer right away.

We kept walking.

"…I'm still here, aren't I?"

"…That's not an answer."

She stopped.

Turned to face me.

"…Do you trust me?"

I didn't hesitate.

"…Yeah."

Her eyes held mine for a moment.

Then she nodded.

"…Then that's enough."

We continued walking.

Not close.

Not far.

But connected in a way that didn't need words anymore.

After a few minutes

We reached a quieter part of the city.

Less light.

Fewer people.

"…We stop here."

"…For what?"

"…To think."

We stood there in silence for a moment.

Then

A sound.

Not loud.

Not obvious.

But wrong.

We both noticed it.

"…Did you hear that?"

"…Yeah."

We turned at the same time.

At the end of the street

There were people.

Three of them.

Standing together.

Watching us.

"…That was fast," I muttered.

"…Too fast."

They didn't move immediately.

Just stood there.

Observing.

Then one of them stepped forward.

"…Two of you."

He said.

His voice calm.

But different.

"…You're late."

My eyes narrowed.

"…Late for what?"

He smiled slightly.

"…For the new rules."

The other two shifted behind him.

Not random.

Organized.

"…We don't want trouble," I said.

He laughed softly.

"…Everyone says that."

A pause.

"…Before they lose."

The air grew tense.

Different from before.

This wasn't just strength.

This was strategy.

Numbers.

"…Stay close," I whispered.

"…I'm not going anywhere."

Good.

Because this time

Running wouldn't be enough.

Three against two.

And something told me

They weren't just random survivors.

.

The game changed.

It's no longer about strength alone…

It's about who stands togetherand who falls first. 👀🔥
