Chapter 88 - "When the Truth Finally Had a Name"

Chapter 89

The night did not settle easily.

Not for her.

Alvira stood in her chambers, pacing slowly, her thoughts refusing to quiet. Ray's words lingered, heavy in a way she could not ignore, but they did not sit the same way Zack's presence did.

Because with Zack—

It was not just words.

It was something deeper.

Something that stayed even in silence.

She stopped near the window again, her fingers pressing lightly against the frame as she exhaled.

Alvira said softly, "I need to understand."

And this time—

She did not wait.

She turned and left.

The corridors felt familiar now, her steps guided not by memory but by instinct. That same pull returned, stronger than before, clearer, undeniable.

She followed it.

And just like before—

He was there.

Zack stood in the garden, exactly where she had expected him to be, as if he had never truly left.

This time—

He turned before she even spoke.

Zack said, "I knew you would come back."

Alvira walked toward him, not slowing, not hesitating.

Alvira said, "You were right."

Zack watched her carefully.

Zack said, "About what."

She stopped in front of him, closer than before, her expression no longer uncertain.

Alvira said, "That this is not something I can ignore."

Zack's gaze softened slightly.

Zack said, "No. It is not."

Alvira held his gaze.

Alvira said, "Then tell me."

No hesitation.

No turning away.

Just truth.

Zack studied her for a moment, as if making sure she was ready.

Zack said, "If I tell you this, everything becomes clearer. But it also becomes… permanent."

Alvira's voice was steady.

Alvira said, "It already feels that way."

That was enough.

Zack stepped closer, closing the distance fully this time.

Zack said, quieter now, "What you are feeling… what I am feeling… it is not random."

Alvira did not look away.

Zack said, "It is a bond."

Her breath slowed.

Zack continued.

Zack said, "A rare one. Something that does not happen by chance."

Alvira's voice softened.

Alvira said, "What kind of bond."

Zack held her gaze, no hesitation left now.

Zack said, "You are my mate."

The world stilled.

Completely.

For a second—

She said nothing.

Not because she did not understand.

But because she did.

And the moment she did—

Everything made sense.

The pull.

The awareness.

The way her heart responded to him without asking.

The way being near him felt… right.

Alvira's lips parted slightly.

Alvira said, almost in a whisper, "Your mate…"

Zack nodded once.

Zack said, "Yes."

A breath left her.

Soft.

Shaky.

But not from fear.

From something else.

Something brighter.

Alvira said, "That is why I feel this way."

Zack said, "Yes."

Alvira let out a small, almost disbelieving laugh.

Alvira said, "And you knew from the beginning."

Zack said, "The moment I saw you."

Alvira shook her head slightly, smiling now, the realization settling fully.

Alvira said, "And you did not tell me."

Zack's voice softened.

Zack said, "I wanted you to feel it first. To trust it. Not just accept it because I said it."

She looked at him, really looked this time.

And then—

She smiled.

Not small.

Not hesitant.

But full.

Bright.

Real.

Alvira said, "I am glad you did not tell me immediately."

Zack's brows lifted slightly.

Zack said, "You are."

Alvira nodded, her eyes holding his.

Alvira said, "Because I would not have understood it like this."

A quiet pause followed.

Then—

Alvira said, softer now, "But now I do."

Zack stepped just a little closer, his voice low.

Zack said, "And how do you feel about it."

That question mattered.

More than anything else.

Alvira did not hesitate.

Not this time.

Alvira said, "Happy."

The word was simple.

But it carried everything.

Zack's expression shifted, something warm and relieved breaking through completely.

Alvira continued.

Alvira said, "It explains everything I could not. And it does not feel forced. It feels… right."

Zack's gaze softened fully now.

Zack said, "It is right."

Alvira smiled again, softer this time.

Alvira said, "So I am yours."

Zack's voice lowered.

Zack said, "And I am yours."

The words settled between them.

Not heavy.

Not overwhelming.

Just certain.

Alvira let out a quiet breath, her heart lighter than it had been in days.

Alvira said, "Ray…"

The name came more carefully now.

Zack did not look away.

Zack said, "I know."

Alvira said, "I do not want to hurt him."

Zack's voice remained calm.

Zack said, "You cannot avoid that completely."

Alvira's expression softened slightly.

Alvira said, "But I can be honest."

Zack nodded.

Zack said, "That is enough."

A quiet silence followed.

But this one—

Was peaceful.

Not uncertain.

Not heavy.

Just… right.

Zack's hand moved slightly, brushing lightly against hers.

This time—

She did not pull away.

Instead—

Her fingers rested against his.

Natural.

Effortless.

Like it had always been meant to happen.

Alvira said softly, "This feels different now."

Zack said, "Because you understand it."

Alvira looked at him.

Alvira said, "No."

A small pause.

Then—

Alvira said, "Because I am not confused anymore."

Zack's expression softened further.

Zack said, "Good."

She smiled again, quieter this time.

Alvira said, "So what happens next."

Zack did not hesitate.

Zack said, "We stop holding back."

And this time—

Neither of them did.
