Chapter 8 - Chapter 8- Understanding The Limits

Three months had passed since the evil spirit incident. At that time when Akihiro finally recovered from his exhaustion after his fight and awakening, he found his mother in the living room explaining what had happened that led them to become unconscious. Hoshiko held her head slightly as she tried to recall the event, her voice unsteady as she spoke to her husband and daughters about what she remembered. The atmosphere in the room felt heavy as the memory lingered in her mind.

"If I remember it right… we were dragged by a multi handed spirit, and then one by one, we were swallowed whole," Hoshiko said, her tone trembling slightly.

Kotaro frowned deeply while Haruka and Kotone listened with wide eyes, their shock evident as they tried to piece everything together. The weight of the situation made them realized how close Hoshiko and Akihiro from their deaths. Relief and fear mixed together in the room.

"But me and Akihiro are here… so that means someone saved us," Hoshiko said slowly, trying to stay composed.

Their conversation was interrupted when Akihiro stepped into the room, and the moment Hoshiko saw him, her eyes trembled as she rushed forward without hesitation. She closed the distance quickly and wrapped her arms tightly around him, as if afraid he might disappear. Akihiro could feel her grip tighten as her emotions spilled over.

"Akihiro!" she cried. "Thank goodness… thank goodness you're all alright!"

"And whoever that psychic was… thank you… thank you for saving us…" she continued, her voice breaking.

Akihiro smiled softly as he returned the hug, choosing to remain silent for now as he decided to explain everything after this moment passed. He let himself be held, feeling the warmth he once lacked in his previous life. For a brief moment, he simply stayed there.

Soon Kotaro and his two sisters joined the embrace, surrounding Akihiro as they each expressed their relief and gratitude. The group hug tightened as their emotions overlapped, creating a messy but genuine moment. Akihiro felt a bit overwhelmed by it all.

"Whoever that psychic was… thank you," Kotaro said sincerely.

"Yeah… we owe him our gratitude," Haruka added, nodding.

"If I ever meet that person… I'm definitely going to thank them properly," Kotone said with a small smile.

Hearing all of that made Akihiro feel embarrassed and slightly awkward, since they were unknowingly thanking him directly. He scratched his cheek lightly, unsure how to respond while still being hugged. Eventually, the emotional moment began to settle.

After things calmed down, Akihiro found it difficult to put everything into words, but he knew he had to explain the truth to them. He took a small breath and looked at his family, who were now watching him curiously. The room grew quiet as he prepared to speak.

"Actually… about that," Akihiro began, scratching his cheek awkwardly.

"At that time… I awakened my psychic powers."

His parents immediately stiffened at his words, their expressions turning serious as they tried to process what they just heard. The weight of his statement settled heavily in the room. Meanwhile, his sisters leaned forward with excitement instead of concern.

"Are you serious, Hiro?" Kotaro asked, his tone sharp and focused.

"Hiro… you're not joking, right?" Hoshiko added, her brows knitting together, while the two elder sisters seemed ecystatic by the possibility.

"Wait, really?!"

"You're telling the truth, right?!"

Haruka and Kotone spoke almost at the same time, their voices filled with excitement.

Akihiro let out an awkward laugh instead of answering directly, and in the next moment, his mother, father, and sisters gently floated into the air as dark purple psychic energy surrounded their bodies. Their feet slowly lifted from the ground, and the sudden shift caused immediate reactions. The room filled with surprise.

"Wha— what is happening?!" Hoshiko's voice trembled as she tried to steady herself midair.

"Oi! What is going on?!" Kotaro shouted as his body slowly spun.

"Woahhh! We're floating!"

"This is amazing!"

Haruka and Kotone burst into laughter as they moved their arms like they were swimming, gliding around with excitement. Akihiro remained seated on the couch, calmly maintaining the telekinetic hold as he watched their reactions.

"Aki… is this your doing?" Hoshiko asked again, her voice still uneasy.

"…Yeah. It is," Akihiro replied reluctantly.

"That's so cool, Hiro!" Kotaro said energetically while still spinning.

"Wait… if you awakened your psychic powers back then… then does that mean…" he added, his voice slowing as realization began to form.

Hoshiko, floating beside him, widened her eyes as she reached the same conclusion at the exact same moment. Their gazes shifted toward Akihiro in sync. The answer was already clear to them.

"Wouldn't that mean… you were the one who defeated the evil spirit?" they both said at the same time.

Akihiro simply nodded nervously, confirming their suspicion without adding anything more. His quiet response carried more weight than any explanation.

"Woah… then Aki-chan is basically a superhero!" Haruka said, her eyes sparkling.

Kotone nodded eagerly before puffing her chest outward with pride.

"Then that means I can boast to my classmates that I'm the elder sister of a psychic user!" she declared confidently.

Akihiro could only smile awkwardly at her reaction as the room filled with mixed emotions of pride, shock, and disbelief. As the atmosphere turned into something lighter and livelier. It was a strange but comforting feeling.

That moment marked the end of the day of his explanation, and for most of the three months that followed, Akihiro stayed at home under his family's care. He was homeschooled for about a month because his family believed that, just like his mother who was still adjusting from the trauma, he might also be affected mentally. While they were not entirely wrong, his condition was limited to occasional nightmares, he had no real problem moving or continuing his daily routine.

During that time, his family also decided that his awakening should remain a secret, and they asked him to only share it with close relatives such as his cousins, grandparents, uncles, and aunts. Because in this world, psychics were like celebrities in their own right, and someone as young as Akihiro coming from a normal household would easily attract unwanted attention. Because of that, they agreed to keep his powers hidden until he turned fifteen, an age where he could properly enter a psychic school.

One of the reasons Akihiro chose to reveal his powers to his family was also because of those schools, since most of the important events in the story would take place there. He knew that he would need their consent to enroll, and hiding his awakening would only make things more complicated in the future. For him, this moment had been the perfect opportunity to tell them everything and prepare for what was to come.

Saturday morning arrived quietly, and inside Akihiro's room, he slowly woke from his bed and sat up in a slouched position while the room remained dim. To his right, the balcony stood behind glass doors covered with gray blinds, allowing faint morning light to seep through and paint the room in a dull glow. He yawned and stretched his arms wide before running his fingers through his messy black hair.

Akihiro glanced toward the balcony as he gathered his thoughts, and the calm atmosphere made him realize that it was finally the weekend. He let out a small breath as he thought about how he should spend his day. Training his psychic powers once again felt like the most natural choice.

"Since it's Saturday… I should train my abilities again," he murmured softly.

He got up from his bed and began tidying his room, straightening the sheets and fixing the small mess he had left behind. After that, he walked toward the balcony and rolled up the blinds before sliding the glass door open to the left, allowing the cool morning air and faint scent of the outside to flow into his room. The gentle breeze brushed against his face, refreshing his senses.

Even though Akihiro could easily do all of this with his psychic powers, he chose not to rely on them for simple tasks. He understood that depending too much on his abilities would cause him to neglect his physical body over time. That thought alone was enough to keep him grounded.

As he stood there, he recalled how he had spent the past few weeks experimenting with his powers in hid daily life. He had used telekinesis to wash dishes by controlling the faucet, plates, and scrub at the same time, and even used aerokinesis to dry them instantly. Cleaning the floor with a guided vacuum and lifting heavy objects for his mother had also become part of his routine.

He had even gone as far as handling the laundry using his abilities, carefully placing clothes into the washing machine and controlling the amount of the detergent. When it was time to dry them, he used hydrokinesis to extract the water from the fabric, at first he thought that the smell of the detergent would be extracted from the clothes. But thankfuly enough it didn't happen.

During those early days, he had used his psychic powers freely, treating everything as both practice and convenience. He found enjoyment in it, especially when he saw the amazed reactions of his parents and elder sisters as they witnessed how useful psychic abilities could be in everyday life. Their surprise and admiration made him feel a sense of satisfaction.

However, that period did not last long as his parents eventually sat him down with serious expressions. They thanked him for helping reduce their workload, but their concern was clear as they spoke. They admitted that his constant use of psychic powers was making them lazier than they should be.

"Hiro, we really appreciate the help… but this is starting to make us lazy," Kotaro said, placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Doing chores is part of our routine too… especially for your father," Hoshiko added, her tone gentle but firm.

Akihiro had no choice but to agree back then, even though he found their reasoning a bit funny. After that, he stopped using his powers for household chores and returned to doing things normally. Still, the experience gave him a deeper understanding of his abilities.

During that time, he noticed something that sent chills down his spine. No matter how much he used his psychic powers throughout the day, his energy never seemed to run out. It seemed that his body was constantly absorbing psychic energy from the air at an unnatural speed. He tested this by deliberately exhausting his energy and then observing how quickly it recovered. To his surprise, his energy would come back almost instantly.

At that same time he was curious about the extent of his capacity, Akihiro began absorbing psychic energy continuously to see how much he could store within himself. He kept doing this for an entire week, expecting to eventually reach a limit or feel some kind of saturation. However, that limit never came.

His core showed no signs of being filled, no matter how much energy he absorbed. It was as if his body had an endless storage that could not be measured. Eventually, he stopped the experiment, not because he reached a conclusion, but because nothing changed.

Akihiro knew at that time that what he was experiencing was far beyond what should be possible. The ability to rapidly absorb psychic energy and store it without limit was something he had never read about in the webnovel. Even among powerful psychics, such traits simply did not exist.

He compared himself to the main character and the twelve female leads, who were supposed to grow stronger over time. Even then, his current state already felt overwhelmingly ahead of what they should be at the future. That realization made him question his own existence.

Despite that, Akihiro also noticed that he was naturally adept at multiple types of psychic abilities. From telekinesis to elemental manipulation, to other abilities, wich is unusual because for the average psychic three to four abilities will be instantly adept to them. The only area where he felt slightly lacking was in mind based abilities.

Still, even that limitation did not change the fact that his overall power was abnormal. No one should be able to awaken with this many capabilities all at once. It went against everything he knew from the story.

Back then, he had been bothered by it and tried to find an explanation for why he had become so strong. After thinking about it for a long time, he eventually came to a simple conclusion. The only thing that made sense to him was his reincarnation.

Now, however, Akihiro no longer cared as much about the reason. Whether it was natural or not did not matter if the result was in his favor. Strength, in the end, was something he would need. If I'm strong, then I'm strong… that's all there is to it.

With the future in mind, especially his plan to involve himself in the fate of the twelve female leads, having overwhelming power was not a disadvantage. In fact, it made things easier for him moving forward. Still, he reminded himself that strength alone would not solve everything. He just needs to be careful… especially with people who have weird abilities.
