The patrols along the road watched in stunned confusion as I shot past them at speeds that no sane person would drive a bike over ruined uneven terrain at. Not that they'd be thinking that immediately with the dust cloud following me as my wind stream kicked up the sand. I braked as I approached the road leading to Cottonwood cove and to my surprise found Jess standing there surrounded by legionaries. One of them with a more intricate uniform that had a scrap metal helmet with a sideways red crest on top of it stepped forward.-
"Caesar has demanded your death and the legion obeys." he spoke firmly as the legionaries drew guns and started unloading at me.
I didn't even flinch as the bullets pinged off my armor and I popped the kickstand of my bike as I got off it. I then drew my pistol and began putting holes in their heads one at a time. When I ran out of bullets in the cylinder I casually reloaded and continued as they learned the terror of an enemy they had no chance at killing. Any of them that tried to make a tactical retreat intelligently died first.-
Eventually even the most stubborn of them understood how pointless this was and also tried to make a run for it. They all got a new hole to breath through for their correct but pointless decision. The end result was Jess casually standing surrounded by no less than forty dead legionnaires. During this entire little event she hadn't even moved from her spot and watched these idiots drop like flies impassively.-
"So the cancerous fucker chose to use you as bait huh? That must sting." I said with a chuckle.
"It would have if I didn't know how absolutely screwed the people he'd send for it were. Though I wasn't expecting him to mobilize the entire coves forces to kill you." she said with a grimace as she looked at all the corpses that were starting to stink as they soiled themselves simultaneously.
"I wonder what did it? Usually a kill squad only has like five or six people in it?" I asked out loud while tapping my chin thoughtfully.
"Perhaps the assassination of Vulpes combined with the desire to make an example in front of Jess and the anger over losing the Autodoc?" Adam supplied.
"Oh? You think it was a compounding series of things that brought it on? I mean now that I think about it he must be stewing in frustration and anger huh." I said with a laugh.
"Yes. He lost a prized asset, was forced to leave his camp, lost the autodoc he needed to guarantee his survival and had to show all this to an outsider. There is a high probability that he thought to use you to relieve some of his anger." Adam said calmly.
"And instead he suffered another painful loss!" I said with a cackle.
Jess just shook her head and mounted up onto the bike.
"Lets just go already." she said tiredly.
"Actually I think i'll leave the cancerous fuck one last "gift". I'm sure he'll love it." I said grinning deviously as I summoned my Dawn elemental from my inventory. "Guard that encampment. Kill any legion member that sets foot here." I commanded it before mounting my bike.
"Did you just cut off the legions primary way into the region?" Jess asked speechlessly.
"Yes, yes I did. The ones currently in the region are stuck here and no new ones can show up through this place anymore. Maybe not a crippling blow but annoying all the same." I said with a grin.
"You are genuinely terrifying as an enemy." Adam said as we took off down the road back to New Vegas making me laugh.
Naturally we got off the bike before approaching Freeside and I put it away. The Kings at the gate looked us over for all of a second before going about their business once they recognized who we were. Freeside was a small community after all so it only took a few hours for word to spread about the new faces in town.-
When part of that reputation was for helping the Kings get out of a sticky spot that earned a small measure of respect. Not enough to steer the entire community with a few words but enough that most of the idiots here would think twice before bothering you. We passed through the area without issue and walked right through the securitron checkpoint without getting stopped a second time like most people would. Perks of working with the guy who owns the place. We spotted a few people set to watch the Lucky thirty eights now open entryway and I waved cheekily before we walked in.-
One short elevator ride later and we were standing in front of Houses monitor at the top.
"I trust there were no additional issues on the return trip?" he asked more perfunctory than anything.
"Well Caesar sicked forces of Cottonwood cove on me when I went to pick up Jess and I stationed my elemental there to make getting into the region more tedious for him after killing them all. That's it though." I said with a shrug.
"So you have cut off the legion from the region, albeit temporarily?" he asked for clarity.
"That's the gist yes." I replied.
"Did it perhaps occur to you that the forces of the legion and NCR skirmishing was part of my plan?" he asked with a sigh.
"It's only temporary. Maybe a week of annoyance until the legion sets up a new forwarding area into the region at most." I say with a shrug.
"I am aware of that but you could have done serious damage to my plan with such a careless act of pettiness." he said seriously.
"Relax, I know my limits. This was mostly just to raise his blood pressure some more. A tactical act of pettiness to keep him from operating in top form. People who are feeling pressured make mistakes, mistakes we can capitalize on." I say casually.
