Chapter 63 - Chapter 63 — Foundation Establishment

The decision was made without a formal discussion.

By the end of the fourth week, everything had aligned. Their Qi was no longer unstable, their techniques no longer unfamiliar, and their combat application no longer incomplete. More importantly, there were no gaps left in their foundation that they could feel or correct further. What remained was not uncertainty, but a threshold.

They returned to the Resource Exchange Hall with purpose this time.

The section for Foundation Establishment resources was restricted, not by access, but by cost. Each item listed there represented preparation for transformation, not simple progression. Meridian Expansion Pills, Foundation Stabilizing Elixirs, and low-grade spirit stones designed to support the restructuring of Qi into something more stable.

Shi Yue reviewed the options carefully. "We don't need reinforcement," she said. "We need stability during transition."

Lin Mo nodded. "One each."

They didn't overcommit. The goal was not to rely on resources, but to ensure that the breakthrough remained controlled. Their contribution was enough for a single Foundation Stabilizing Elixir each, leaving them with a small reserve for later.

The exchange was completed in silence.

There was no hesitation now.

They moved to a quieter section of the inner sect, one designated for breakthroughs. The formations there isolated external interference and stabilized the surrounding Qi, creating an environment suitable for transformation.

Lin An'an stayed near the edge of the formation. This time, she didn't move around or play. She simply watched, her small face unusually serious, as if she could sense that something important was about to happen.

Lin Mo and Shi Yue took their positions and sat down.

The difference between this and everything before was immediate. There was no gradual buildup, no slow accumulation. Qi Refinement had always been about circulation, about guiding energy through defined pathways. This was different. This was about reshaping everything those pathways had supported.

Lin Mo closed his eyes and turned inward. The Qi within his body, once flowing through his meridians in controlled cycles, began to gather naturally toward his core. It was not something he forced. It happened on its own, as if everything he had built until now had reached a point where it could no longer remain spread out.

Shi Yue experienced the same process. Her control allowed her to observe it more clearly, but she did not interfere. This was not a matter of guiding the flow anymore. It was a matter of allowing it to change.

They took the elixirs.

The effect was immediate, but not overwhelming. The energy from the elixirs did not push their Qi forward. Instead, it stabilized the process as their internal energy began to compress.

The flowing Qi within their bodies started to collapse inward, condensing toward a single point. The meridians that had once guided it were no longer the focus. Everything was being drawn together, refined into something denser, more stable.

Lin Mo felt the pressure build steadily. It was not painful, but it was absolute. His Qi, once fluid and expansive, was being compressed into something far more concentrated.

Shi Yue felt the same pressure, but with greater clarity. She could sense the exact moment where control ended and transformation began. Her breathing slowed naturally, her entire focus drawn inward as the process reached its peak.

Then it changed.

The Qi no longer flowed.

It settled.

What had once required constant movement to exist now formed into something stable, something that did not disperse.

Foundation Establishment.

The transformation completed cleanly.

Lin Mo opened his eyes first.

The difference was immediate and undeniable. His Qi no longer felt like something he needed to maintain through continuous circulation. It existed as a stable core, dense and controlled. When he moved, there was a faint weight to it, a subtle pressure that extended outward with his presence. It was not overwhelming, but it was there, a quiet suppression that had not existed before.

Shi Yue opened her eyes moments later.

Her perception had changed more noticeably. The world around her felt clearer, but not in the same way as before. It was not just sharper—it was slower in a sense. She could sense intent before action fully formed, subtle shifts in movement revealing themselves before they were completed. Her body adjusted instinctively, her awareness aligning with something deeper than simple observation.

Neither of them spoke immediately.

They didn't need to.

They could both feel it.

This was not just a breakthrough in strength.

It was a change in nature.

Lin Mo tested his Qi slightly, allowing a small portion of it to move. The response was immediate, smoother than before, but also heavier, more controlled. It did not scatter or fluctuate. It obeyed.

Shi Yue shifted her stance slightly, her movement flowing without interruption. There was no conscious adjustment, no correction needed. Her body moved as if it had already anticipated what came next.

She looked at her hands briefly, then at Lin Mo. "This is different."

Lin Mo nodded. "It's starting."

They both understood what that meant.

This was not the full extent of their potential.

It was only the beginning of it.

Their innate nature had responded to the breakthrough, not explosively, but clearly. It was no longer something hidden beneath their cultivation. It had begun to surface, shaping how their Qi behaved, how their bodies responded, how they interacted with everything around them.

Lin An'an ran toward them at that moment, stopping just in front of them as she looked up. There was no fear in her expression, only curiosity, but her gaze lingered slightly longer than usual, as if she could sense the difference even if she didn't understand it.

Shi Yue knelt and rested a hand gently on her shoulder. "We're fine."

Lin Mo stood, his posture steady as he looked ahead. The path that had once been uncertain now felt defined in a way it hadn't before.

"Now it begins," he said.

Shi Yue stood beside him, her expression calm but certain. "Yes."

Qi Refinement had been preparation.

Foundation Establishment was the true beginning.

And from this point onward, every step they took would not just make them stronger, but bring them closer to what they were meant to become.
