Chapter 12 - When He Didn't Wake Up

The operation theatre doors finally opened.

Sneha stood up so fast the chair scraped loudly against the floor. Her legs trembled, but she still moved forward, Ansh clinging to her dupatta, eyes red and swollen.

The doctor removed his mask slowly.

That pause alone shattered her.

"I'm sorry," he said gently.

"The surgery was successful… we managed to stop the internal bleeding."

Hope flashed for half a second.

Then—

"But due to head injury ,internal bleeding , the trauma was severe ,and he lost a lot of blood. He has slipped into a coma."

The word hit her like a bullet.

Coma.

Sneha felt the world tilt. Her ears rang. For a moment, she couldn't breathe.

"C–coma?" she whispered, barely audible.

"You mean… he's sleeping?"

The doctor's eyes softened.

"He's unconscious. We don't know how long it will last—days, weeks… sometimes longer. The next 48 hours are critical."

Ansh tugged her hand.

"Mama…" his voice shook, "Papa will wake up, right?"

Sneha dropped to her knees in front of him instantly, holding his tiny face between her palms.

"Yes," she said firmly, forcing strength into her voice.

"Papa is very strong. He promised Mama he'll wake up."

She hugged him tightly, hiding her face in his shoulder so he wouldn't see her break.

Behind her calm words, her heart was collapsing.

The doctor continued softly.

"You can see him for a few minutes. He's in the ICU."

Inside the ICU, machines surrounded Rayen.

Beeping. Tubes. Wires.

The man who once controlled cities with a single command now lay still—silent, pale, frighteningly fragile.

Sneha stepped closer slowly, as if afraid he might disappear.

She held his hand again.

Cold.

Her lips trembled.

"You idiot," she whispered, tears falling freely now.

"You were supposed to protect… not scare us like this."

She leaned closer, forehead resting against his hand.

"You heard me, didn't you?" she whispered shakily.

"I know you did."

Her voice cracked completely.

"I said I love you… and now you choose silence?"

She laughed weakly through tears.

"You always do this, Rayen Raizada."

"Control everything… except what truly matters."

Ansh climbed onto the chair beside the bed, carefully, as if the machines might scold him.

He touched Rayen's arm gently.

"Papa," he whispered, lips trembling.

"Mama is crying. You don't like that… so wake up."

Sneha closed her eyes.

That broke her more than anything.

She straightened, wiping her tears, forcing herself to breathe.

Holding Rayen's hand tightly, she whispered with quiet resolve—

"You brought me into this life for Ansh."

"So listen carefully."

"I'm not leaving."

"Not now. Not ever."

"You don't get to rest while I carry this alone."

Her thumb brushed his knuckles.

"You survived bullets for us."

"So now you survive this."

She leaned close to his ear.

"Because if you don't wake up…"

"I swear, Rayen—

I will haunt you for the rest of your life."

A tear slipped onto his hand.

Outside, the night waited.

Inside that ICU, three lives were suspended between hope and fear—

And Sneha, the woman who never expected love,

now stood guard over it—

fierce, broken, unwavering.
