Chapter 2 - The Proposal

The black convoy stopped in front of Sneha Kaur's house—

a small, ordinary place that had never known silence this expensive.

Men in black stepped out first.

Alert. Controlled. Dangerous.

Then Rayen Raizada stepped out.

The air changed.

He didn't need to announce himself.

Everyone already knew who he was.

Inside the house, Sneha's mother's hands began to shake.

Her father stood up so fast the chair scraped the floor.

"He's here…"

Sneha came out of her room, confused.

She wasn't dressed for anything important.

Simple kurti. Hair loosely tied.

No idea that her life was about to be decided without her consent.

Rayen entered the house without arrogance—

but with a presence that filled every corner.

His eyes scanned the space once.

Not judging.

Measuring.

He didn't sit immediately.

"I won't waste time," he said, voice deep, controlled.

"I'm here with a proposal."

Sneha felt her stomach tighten.

Her father swallowed hard.

"S-say it, Mr. Raizada."

Rayen finally looked at Sneha.

Not like a man looks at a woman.

But like a man looks at a solution.

"I want to marry your daughter."

The words fell heavy.

Too heavy for a house this small.

Sneha's mother gasped softly.

Her father's knees almost gave out.

Sneha froze.

"M-me?" she whispered, disbelief clear in her eyes.

Rayen nodded once.

"My son needs a mother."

That was it.

No compliments.

No promises of love.

No lies.

Just a fact.

"This marriage will give your family protection.

Your debts will be cleared.

You will never lack anything again."

Sneha's parents looked at each other—

fear, relief, guilt tangled together.

Sneha's chest felt tight.

"Sir… do I get a choice?" she asked softly.

For the first time, Rayen hesitated.

Just a fraction.

"No," he said honestly.

"But I promise you one thing—

I will never harm you."

Outside, a child's laughter echoed from a nearby house.

Inside, Sneha's childhood ended.

Sneha's father didn't let the silence stretch too long.

He folded his hands.

"If… if this will clear our debt,"

"and keep our daughter safe…"

His voice broke.

"We accept, Mr. Raizada."

The word accept echoed louder than thunder.

Sneha turned sharply.

"Baba—?"

Her mother couldn't meet her eyes.

Rayen gave a short nod.

Business settled.

But then—

Sneha stepped forward.

Her hands were trembling, but her voice wasn't.

"No."

Everyone froze.

Rayen looked at her fully this time.

"I said no," she repeated, swallowing hard.

"You want a wife. I want a choice."

The guards stiffened.

Her parents panicked.

"Sneha!" her mother whispered urgently.

Rayen raised a hand. Silence fell.

For a long moment, he studied her—

not angry,

not offended,

but… thoughtful.

"You're brave," he said quietly.

"But bravery won't change reality."

She met his gaze anyway.

"Then give me time," she said.

"I won't say yes today."

Rayen exhaled slowly.

A man who never negotiated…

was negotiating.

"Seven days," he said.

"Not to fall in love.

Just to understand what you're walking into."

He turned to leave, then stopped.

"After that… I won't ask again."

The door closed behind him.

Sneha's knees gave out.

That night, she didn't sleep.

Seven days passed like a slow execution.

She saw her parents whispering.

Counting blessings they didn't deserve.

Counting debts they couldn't repay.

On the seventh day, Rayen came again.

Same calm.

Same control.

Sneha stood before him.

Her eyes were red, but dry.

"I'll do it," she said softly.

Not because she wanted to.

Not because she believed in him.

But because her parents stood behind her—

broken, afraid, relieved.

"I'll marry you."

Rayen didn't smile.

"Thank you," he said, like she'd signed a contract.

As he turned away, Sneha realized something terrifying:

She wasn't marrying a man.

She was stepping into a world

where love was dead…

and children cried without sound.
