Chapter 99 - Chapter 99 Watcherss?

Maki's heavy winter duffel bag sat abandoned on the cold tile floor. Her wrapped spear leaned against the wall. She had Ren pinned by the collar of his jacket, her back pressed flush against the concrete, pulling him down into a bruising, breathless kiss.

Ren didn't resist. His hands were clamped firmly on her waist, his thumbs pressing into the heavy fabric of her tactical gear as he backed her against the wall. He angled his head, deepening the kiss, his tongue sliding past her lips to taste the lingering mint of her toothpaste and the bitter edge of morning coffee.

Maki let out a soft, stifled hum against his mouth, her fingers knotting fiercely into the hair at the nape of his neck.

She broke the kiss with a wet gasp, turning her head just enough to catch her breath. Her chest heaved against his, her amber eyes burning into him in the dim light of the alcove. The tips of her ears were flushed a brilliant red.

"You're acting like I'm going away to war, idiot," Maki rasped, her forehead dropping against his shoulder. "It's just a retrieval mission. I'll be back in two weeks."

"I know," Ren murmured, his voice slightly rough. He slid one hand up her back, his fingers tracing the edge of her shoulder where he knew the jagged burn scars lay hidden beneath her jacket. "Just... take care of yourself up there, maki. It's going to be freezing."

Maki clicked her tongue, though she leaned heavily into his touch.

"I'm a jujutsu sorcerer you knoww," she muttered. She tilted her chin up, glaring at him with that fierce, unbreakable authority she always commanded. "You remember the rules we talked about, right?"

Ren offered a slow, tired smile. "No conning people. Claim my terrifying future wife immediately. Punch all evil women."

"Good." Maki grabbed the lapels of his jacket and yanked him back in, pressing one last, hard kiss to his lips. It was brief but heavy with unspoken affection.

"Don't do anything stupid while I'm gone. If you get yourself killed before I get back, I'm going to track your soul down and kill you twice."

"Understood," Ren whispered.

The automated voice of the station announcer echoed through the corridor, signaling the final boarding call for the northbound Shinkansen.

Maki let out an exasperated sigh. She let go of his jacket, smoothing down her own clothes and forcefully re-establishing her tough exterior. She scooped up her heavy duffel bag and slung her wrapped spear over her shoulder, not looking back as she stepped out of the alcove.

Ren followed her out, keeping his distance as they merged back into the morning commuter crowd.

He leaned against a concrete pillar near the escalators, watching as Maki stepped onto Platform 13. She tossed her heavy bag onto the luggage rack and didn't bother turning around to wave. She just found her seat, looking annoyed, fierce, and completely ready to tear a nonexistent cave apart to spite her family.

Ren watched as the train doors slid shut with a sharp hiss. The departure chime echoed through the station.

As the massive bullet train slowly accelerated, carrying Maki safely out of Tokyo and entirely off the board for the impending meat grinder of Halloween night, a distinct, synthetic chime rang out in Ren's head.

The translucent blue interface flared to life over his vision, overlaying the speeding train.

Ren stared at the floating blue text as the train disappeared down the tracks, the roar of the engines fading into the ambient noise of the station. A slow, deeply satisfied smirk pulled at his lips.

[Current Balance: 125,000 Points]

[Milestone Reached. Upgrade Available: Positive Energy Imbuement]

Ren swiped a hand through the cold October air, dismissing the glowing blue System interface that hovered over the Ueno Station commuter crowds. With 125,000 points safely banked and the Positive Energy Imbuement finally unlocked, the suffocating pressure in his chest eased for the first time in weeks.

Maki was on a train to Hokkaido, safely isolated from the impending nightmare of Halloween.

He stepped out of the station and into the crisp morning air, blending effortlessly into the bustling civilian foot traffic. His destination was a quiet cafe a few blocks down, a place he frequented when he needed to organize his tactical notes without the chaos of Jujutsu High.

Ren had barely rounded the corner toward the cafe when he spotted them.

Leaning against the brick facade of a popular bakery, shoving a frankly concerning amount of sweet red bean pastry into his mouth, was Yuji Itadori.

Standing next to him, radiating his usual aura of brooding exhaustion, was Megumi Fushiguro. Since Satoru Gojo's infamous "surprise box" reveal at the Goodwill Event, Yuji was officially back from the dead and reintegrated with the first-years.

"Ren!" Yuji shouted, waving a half-eaten pastry enthusiastically despite Megumi's immediate wince. "Hey! Over here!"

He jogged over, offering a relaxed smile.

"Itadori, Fushiguro. Didn't expect to see you guys this far out from campus," Ren said, stuffing his hands into his jacket pockets.

From the tinted window of a second-story tea room across the street, completely veiled by the morning shadows and a subtle barrier, two figures watched the casual reunion unfold below.

Suguru Geto—or rather, the ancient curse user currently wearing his skin—rested his chin against his knuckles. A serene, unnervingly gentle smile played across his face as he observed the dark-haired teenager chatting with Sukuna's vessel.

Beside him, the air shimmered with a heavy, oppressive heat that threatened to singe the expensive tatami mats.

Jogo stood with his arms crossed, his single massive eye locked onto Ren with unadulterated hatred.

"Is that truly the guy you were so worked up about, Jogo?" Geto asked, his voice smooth, polite, and laced with mild disappointment.

"...."
