The storm still roared across the sky.
Rain poured down without mercy, and thunder continued to shake the earth. Both houses—one grand, one simple—remained trapped under the same dark clouds, waiting for something to change.
Then—
A sharp cry broke through the noise of the storm.
Inside General Wu's residence, the sound of a newborn's cry filled the room.
For a moment, everything seemed to stop.
The midwives looked at each other, relief spreading across their faces. One of them gently lifted the baby, her voice filled with joy. "My lady… the child is born!"
Lady Wu Caixia lay weakly on the bed, her breathing slow, but her eyes opened slightly at the sound. "My… child…" she whispered.
The baby cried again, strong and clear, as if announcing her arrival to the world.
Outside the door, General Wu Jianhong froze.
He heard it.
The cry.
For a second, he could not move. Then suddenly, his face changed—his worry melted into pure relief and happiness.
"The child…" he said softly, almost in disbelief.
Without waiting any longer, he pushed the door open and stepped inside.
The midwives turned toward him with smiles. One of them spoke, "General, congratulations. A beautiful daughter has been born."
"A… daughter?" His voice trembled slightly.
He stepped closer, his eyes fixed on the small figure wrapped in soft cloth. The baby's tiny hands moved slightly, her cries slowly calming as she felt the warmth around her.
General Wu's expression softened completely. He reached out carefully, as if afraid to break something fragile. "She is… so small," he whispered.
Lady Wu smiled weakly from the bed. "Do you not like her?" she asked gently.
General Wu shook his head immediately. "No… I like her very much," he said, his voice filled with emotion. "She is perfect."
He looked at the child again, his eyes filled with pride and warmth. "She will be strong," he said. "Just like you."
Lady Wu closed her eyes in relief, a faint smile still on her lips.
One of the midwives asked softly, "General, have you thought of a name for her?"
General Wu paused for a moment, then looked at his wife. "We discussed it before," he said. "Do you still agree?"
Lady Wu nodded slightly. "Yes…"
He looked at the child again and said clearly, "Her name will be Wu Jinhai."
The midwives repeated the name softly.
Lady Wu smiled and explained in a gentle voice, "Jinhai… means 'Golden Sea.' A sea that is vast, deep, and full of life. No matter how strong the storm is, the sea remains."
General Wu nodded. "Yes. She will have a heart as vast as the sea and a spirit that shines like gold."
The baby let out a soft sound, as if responding to her name.
At the same time, in the small, quiet house—
Another cry echoed.
The woman, exhausted and weak, held the newborn child in her arms. Tears slipped from her eyes, but this time, they were not from pain.
"You're… here…" she whispered.
The baby cried loudly, his small body trembling slightly from the cold air, but his voice was strong.
Outside, the man heard it.
He froze for a moment, just like General Wu had.
Then a wide smile slowly spread across his face.
"The child…" he said, his voice shaking with emotion.
He quickly pushed the door open and stepped inside.
The sight before him made his eyes soften instantly.
The woman looked up at him weakly, holding the baby carefully. "He… is safe," she said.
The man stepped closer, kneeling beside her. He looked at the child with disbelief and joy. "A boy…" he whispered.
The baby's cries slowly softened as he was held more securely.
The man laughed softly, unable to hide his happiness. "He's strong," he said. "Very strong."
The woman smiled faintly. "Yes…"
After a moment, she asked, "What… should we name him?"
The man fell silent, thinking carefully. Then he said, "Qiao Yu Zhen."
The woman repeated it softly. "Yu Zhen…"
The man nodded and explained gently, "Yu means 'jade,' something pure and precious. Zhen means 'truth' or 'real.' Together, it means 'true jade'… something valuable, strong, and pure."
The woman looked at the child lovingly. "Then that is a good name," she said. "He will grow to be someone honest and strong."
The man smiled. "Yes. No matter what life gives him, he will not break."
The baby made a small sound, as if accepting the name.
At that very moment—
Something changed.
The thunder suddenly stopped.
The rain, which had been pouring endlessly, began to slow.
The wind softened, no longer howling like before.
Both houses fell into a strange, peaceful silence.
General Wu noticed it first. He looked toward the window. "The storm…" he said slowly.
One of the midwives moved closer and looked outside. "It's stopping," she said in surprise.
The dark clouds began to part, allowing a soft light to break through.
In the small house, the man also noticed the change. He stepped outside and looked up at the sky.
"The rain…" he murmured.
It had almost completely stopped.
A gentle breeze replaced the violent wind, and the heavy feeling in the air disappeared.
Back in the general's house, Lady Wu whispered softly, "It's as if… the heavens have calmed."
General Wu looked at his daughter, then at the sky. "Maybe," he said quietly, "this storm came to welcome her."
In the small house, the man returned inside, his face calm now. "The storm is gone," he said.
The woman looked at their son and smiled. "Then he brought peace with him."
Under the same sky—
A girl named Wu Jinhai.
A boy named Qiao Yu Zhen.
Two lives had finally begun.
And with their arrival—
All calamities came to an end.
