"Can I still be saved?" Wendy thought in utter despair, her legs finally giving out.
"You're Wendy, right?" Tyler looked down at her, his expression cold and calculating. "A word of advice: next time, don't rely on your status to bully people who can erase you."
"I'm sorry! Please, don't kill me!" Wendy wailed, her forehead nearly hitting the pavement.
Tyler felt a flash of silent amusement, but he kept his face fierce. "Not kill you? Remember this: if I catch you pulling that elitist act again, I won't just find you in reality. I will appear in your dreams and end you there. Understood?"
"I understand!" Wendy nodded frantically, her eyes brimming with a terror that would likely fuel years of therapy.
Scaring a bratty student was child's play compared to breaking the psyche of a villain like Zombozo. This threat would remain her permanent psychological shadow.
Once the transformations were undone, the group left the prestigious campus and drove to a remote suburban area. Ben stood in the long grass, his face set in a grim mask as he raised his wrist.
CLICK, CLICK.
He dialed the Omnitrix to the Void-Wraith icon and slammed it down. Nothing happened. The green light flickered, but Ben remained human.
"What the...? Hey! Watch! Work with me here!" Ben slapped the dial repeatedly, but the Omnitrix was dead silent.
"Ben Tennyson..." The cold, rasping voice of Zs'Skayr echoed directly into Ben's mind, a psychic projection only he could see. "It is too bright here. You wish to manifest me under the sun? To weaken me? No. Find the darkness. I will have my decisive battle with Tyler when the light dies."
The illusion shattered. Ben slumped, and Tyler caught him by the shoulder.
"He wants to fight on his own terms," Ben rasped, explaining the ghost's demand. "He wants the night."
They tried under bridges, in thick bushes, and inside the darkened RV, but Zs'Skayr refused to budge. He was waiting for his home-field advantage.
"He's smarter than the last time," Max noted, his eyes narrowed. "Last time, Tyler dismantled his fortress and dragged him into the light. Now, he'd rather starve the clock than transform during the day."
"Then we wait," Tyler said calmly. "If he wants the night, I'll give him a night he'll never forget."
As they waited, Gwen's eyes darted between them. She leaned in, lowering her voice to a conspiratorial whisper. "If Zs'Skayr is using Ben's body as a host... wouldn't Ben's physical condition affect the ghost's combat power?"
Ben's eyes lit up. "Wait, like... a debuff?"
Tyler quickly covered Ben's mouth and pulled out a notebook, scribbling a message: Don't say it. He might be listening through your ears.
Gwen nodded and whispered even softer. "What happens if Ben transforms while he's hungry, exhausted, and... really needs to use the bathroom?"
Tyler chuckled. "Gwen, I can handle him as he is. There's no need to torture Ben."
"No!" Ben whispered back excitedly. "He's made me suffer for a year. It's time he feels what it's like to be me! I'm doing it!"
Ben spent the rest of the day in a state of self-imposed misery. He played high-intensity games with headphones on, refusing water and food, relying entirely on digital "opium" to ignore his physical needs. Tyler, meanwhile, ended up eating Ben's portion of Max's "special" cooking—a true test of his own endurance.
The sun finally dipped below the horizon. The suburbs were empty, save for the chirping of crickets and the persistent hum of mosquitoes.
"It's time," Ben said, his voice weak from hunger but his eyes burning with spite.
Tyler raised the Carnitrix. With a violent slap, a pillar of bloody light erupted. The Void-Wraith (Zs'Skayr's Carnitrix Variant) emerged—a towering, demonic phantom that looked like it had crawled out of the deepest pit of the afterlife.
"It's... it's him," Ben whispered, his skin crawling.
"Your turn, Ben," Tyler's voice rumbled through the spectral form.
Ben took a deep breath and slammed his dial. "I'm doing this one hard, just to spite him!"
Green light flared, illuminating the trees. A second Void-Wraith appeared in the darkness. Immediately, the Carnitrix-Wraith lashed out with obsidian tentacles, shredding the outer skin of Ben's form.
Zs'Skayr's true, terrifying form—the inverted skull and skinless torso—drilled out of its husk, staring ferociously at Tyler.
The two ghosts locked eyes. Simultaneously, they unleashed waves of psychic pressure. The air between them rippled as invisible illusions collided. Tyler's 10% synchronization hummed, his mental strength crushing Zs'Skayr's projection.
"I have recovered much," Zs'Skayr hissed, his voice a distorted rasp. "But I am still not whole. Even so... I will have your body, boy!"
