Chapter 60 - Chapter 60 – Professor McGonagall’s Story

Fred and George immediately noticed Malfoy's suspicious expression.

Clearly, the little pure-blood prince felt deeply unconvinced.

Fred grinned mysteriously.

"Don't rush to judge it yet."

George nodded proudly.

"An Epic Gold Card naturally has unique highlights."

Fred pointed towards the card in Malfoy's hand.

"Tilt your head closer and look carefully."

After hearing that, Malfoy suspiciously lowered his gaze towards the golden card.

At first glance—

It still featured Logan.

But then Malfoy suddenly froze.

Wait.

This wasn't an ordinary photograph.

It was moving.

More importantly—

It showed Logan sleeping.

The animated image clearly captured him quietly lying in bed while slowly rolling onto his side beneath the blankets.

Malfoy instantly stopped breathing.

This…

How was anyone supposed to survive something like this?!

An uncontrollable smile immediately spread across his face.

George gently patted his shoulder.

"That's not even the best part," he whispered mysteriously.

"Now tilt the card ninety degrees left or right."

Malfoy obeyed instinctively.

The moment he tilted the card—

The sleeping image suddenly transformed completely.

A new moving photograph appeared.

Malfoy's eyes widened instantly.

A boys' bathroom.

Logan slowly stepped out from one of the shower stalls with damp black hair hanging loosely around his forehead while droplets of water slid down his neck.

A towel rested casually around his shoulders.

The image moved naturally and smoothly.

Water even continued dripping onto the floor beneath him.

Malfoy nearly died on the spot.

"This…" he whispered hoarsely. "How did you even manage to photograph this?!"

Fred and George immediately looked smug.

"Simple."

"We bribed Seamus Finnigan to become our dormitory spy."

George crossed his arms proudly.

"These two exclusive photographs were combined together into a single Epic Gold Card."

Fred nodded solemnly.

"Our ultimate masterpiece."

Then both twins stared expectantly at Malfoy.

"So?"

"Are you satisfied?"

Malfoy nodded so violently it almost looked dangerous.

Satisfied?

He was beyond satisfied.

He absolutely had to obtain this card today.

"No matter how many Galleons it costs," Malfoy declared passionately, "I, Draco Malfoy, am destined to own this gold card!"

Then he raised the card dramatically.

"Not even Merlin himself could stop me!"

....

Meanwhile, inside a quiet classroom elsewhere in Hogwarts—

Professor McGonagall calmly lectured while Logan sat alone at one of the desks taking notes seriously.

"The art of Transfiguration is extremely profound," she explained patiently, "but it follows one absolute truth."

"No matter how advanced your Transfiguration becomes, you cannot permanently transform an inanimate object into a living creature."

She slowly paced through the room.

"Likewise, living creatures cannot be permanently turned into ordinary objects."

This was Logan's private tutoring session with Professor McGonagall.

However, after several minutes, McGonagall gradually noticed something unusual.

Logan looked distracted today.

His notes slowed repeatedly.

His eyes occasionally drifted elsewhere.

Eventually, Professor McGonagall quietly walked over before sitting beside his desk.

"Logan," she asked gently, "is something troubling you?"

Her sharp eyes observed him carefully.

"You seem unusually distracted today."

Then she added softly—

"If something is bothering you, perhaps you could tell me."

A faint smile appeared on her face.

"After all, I'm considered one of Hogwarts' best secret-keepers."

Logan slowly closed the textbook in front of him.

Honestly…

He really did feel strange today.

Like something heavy blocked his thoughts constantly.

Was it because of Hermione?

Logan remembered Harry's earlier hints.

The entire situation irritated him deeply.

Perhaps speaking with Professor McGonagall might genuinely help.

At the very least, she possessed far more life experience than he did.

So after hesitating briefly, Logan told her everything.

The gold cards.

Hermione's strange reaction.

Harry's suspicions.

And his own confusion regarding relationships.

Several minutes later, Professor McGonagall felt extremely complicated emotionally.

Children nowadays really developed frighteningly early.

When she herself was eleven years old, she still worried about ordinary school examinations.

Yet Logan already faced emotional relationship dilemmas.

Still…

As his professor, she felt responsible for guiding him properly.

Or at least helping him understand his own heart.

After thinking quietly for a moment, Professor McGonagall finally asked directly—

"Do you like Hermione?"

Logan immediately fell silent.

Several seconds passed before he answered uncertainly.

"Professor… I don't know."

He lowered his gaze slightly.

"I don't dislike her."

"And I genuinely enjoy spending time with her."

Then his voice became quieter.

"But I still don't feel ready to take that step."

Logan frowned faintly.

"Does that make me cowardly?"

For once, the usually calm and decisive boy genuinely looked lost.

Seeing that expression softened McGonagall's heart immediately.

After several moments of silence, she finally sighed gently.

"Then perhaps…"

"I should tell you a story."

Logan looked up again.

"A story?" he asked quietly.

Professor McGonagall nodded slowly.

"My own story."

A faint trace of nostalgia appeared in her eyes.

"I've only ever told this secret to Albus Dumbledore before."

Then she looked directly at Logan.

"You will become the second person."

"I hope my experiences can help you understand your own feelings more clearly."

And so—

Professor McGonagall began speaking softly about her past.

"Back then, shortly after graduating from Hogwarts, I already secured a position at the Ministry of Magic due to my examination results."

"I was assigned to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement."

Before officially beginning work, however, she travelled briefly through London during the final days of her holiday.

"And that was where I met him."

Her voice softened slightly.

"The first man I ever truly loved."

"Doug McGregor."

Professor McGonagall smiled faintly while recalling the memory.

"He was handsome, charming, funny… painfully ordinary in all the best ways."

The story itself sounded simple.

Two young people met.

Then fell in love naturally.

Eventually, shortly before she planned returning to the Ministry—

Doug proposed.

"It happened inside a beautiful field beneath warm sunlight."

McGonagall's expression slowly grew distant.

"At that moment, I felt happier than I'd ever felt before."

"I even began imagining names for our future children."

So naturally—

She accepted immediately.

Without hesitation.

But after the initial joy faded and she returned home…

Reality arrived.

Professor McGonagall slowly lowered her eyes.

"I suddenly realised something terrifying."

"If I married him…"

"I would eventually become exactly like my mother."

She explained quietly how her mother spent years hiding magic from her Muggle husband.

Hiding her wand.

Teaching her children secrecy.

Living constantly within lies.

"I didn't want that life," McGonagall admitted painfully.

"I didn't want to bury my identity forever."

"And I didn't want to become as unhappy as my mother eventually became."

So in the end—

She made the most painful decision of her life.

"The very next morning, I found Doug and told him I'd changed my mind."

"I rejected his proposal."

Her hands tightened slightly.

"It broke my heart."

"But because of wizarding secrecy laws, I couldn't even explain the real reason."

And so she left him behind completely.

Afterwards, McGonagall devoted herself obsessively to work inside the Ministry of Magic for the next two years.

She tried desperately to forget.

But she never truly felt happy.

Many Ministry employees openly despised Muggles.

And because she loved both her father and Doug deeply, she gradually began hating the Ministry itself.

Eventually, during that difficult period, she briefly developed feelings for her own superior.

Elphinstone Urquart.

But by then—

Everything already felt emotionally exhausting.

"In the end," Professor McGonagall said quietly, "I abandoned the Ministry entirely."

She gave up promotions.

Gave up her position.

And finally returned to Hogwarts instead.

Then a small smile appeared on her lips.

"A little secret for you…"

"At that time, the person supervising me happened to be Albus Dumbledore himself."
