The appearance of the giant snake instantly ruined Lucas's original infiltration plan.
"You stay here," he said while standing up. "There are too many snakes in the camp now. I might accidentally hurt you."
Cassandra looked at him blankly for a moment before nodding obediently.
If her parents had witnessed this scene, they probably would have fainted from shock. Cassandra Vole had never been this well-behaved around anyone in her life.
Without wasting another second, Lucas transformed into black mist and shot toward the camp.
There were still roughly ten werewolf wizards remaining inside.
If Lucas hadn't accidentally summoned half the forest's snake population beforehand, charging in directly might actually have been dangerous. Obscurus power wasn't truly invincible. If he took a curse head-on, he could still be injured like anyone else.
But now the situation had changed completely.
Poisonous snakes slithered everywhere throughout the camp, and the absurdly gigantic serpent was rampaging through the centre like a natural disaster.
Less than a minute after the fighting started, two werewolf wizards had already been bitten to death by the massive snake.
Still, these people were hardened criminals.
Once they regained their composure, they immediately drew their wands and began fighting back.
Ordinary poisonous snakes posed little threat to fully grown wizards once they became alert. Most of the werewolves quickly shifted their focus entirely toward the enormous serpent tearing through their camp.
The giant snake's combat ability was terrifying.
Most spells bounced harmlessly off its scales, while anyone bitten died almost instantly. Its tail strikes were equally horrifying. Few werewolf wizards could survive even a direct hit.
And at that exact moment—
Lucas arrived.
The black mist swept violently through the camp like a living storm.
Trees shattered.
Tents exploded apart.
The earth itself tore open beneath his path, leaving deep trenches across the clearing as though a gigantic plough had ripped through the ground.
Two werewolf wizards were instantly caught within the black mist and dragged screaming high into the air.
"AAAAAAHHHH!"
Their terrified cries echoed through the night.
A few seconds later, the screaming stopped abruptly.
Then two lifeless corpses fell from the sky and smashed heavily into the ground.
"What the hell is that thing?!"
"NO! SAVE ME!"
"I'm bitten! HELP—!"
Panic completely consumed the camp.
Under the combined assault of the giant snake and Lucas's Obscurus form, the battle ended in less than five minutes.
Not a single werewolf wizard survived.
The black mist gradually gathered together before reforming into Lucas's human body.
He landed lightly on the ground while breathing slightly harder than before.
Then he turned curiously toward the gigantic serpent nearby.
The massive snake slowly crawled closer, its enormous body crushing branches and dead leaves beneath its weight. It lowered its giant head toward him while flicking its tongue.
"Hissss… (I've never met a wizard capable of speaking with snakes before. You're the first one. When I heard you calling for help fighting enemies, I came immediately.)"
Lucas stared at the giant snake in front of him.
Even across two lifetimes, he had never seen a snake this ridiculously huge.
Then suddenly, a terrifying possibility surfaced in his mind.
Lucas cautiously replied in Parseltongue.
"Hiss… (Thank you for helping. What's your name?)"
The giant snake blinked slowly.
"Hissss… (My name is Nagini. I've lived in this forest for a very long time. May I follow you from now on? The aura around you feels very comfortable.)"
Lucas's pupils contracted instantly.
Nagini.
It really was Nagini.
The future companion of Voldemort himself.
Or perhaps… already Voldemort's companion?
Lucas immediately became cautious.
Even though Nagini claimed she had never met another Parselmouth before, he couldn't confirm whether she was telling the truth. If Voldemort's soul fragment was already attached to her somehow, the situation could become extremely dangerous.
Without hesitation, Lucas immediately consulted the system internally.
"System."
"Ding! Excellent work! As a great wh—"
The system paused awkwardly again.
"—white wizard, cutting off one of the Dark Lord's future allies is an act of profound righteousness! Host, you have once again weakened the forces of evil!"
Lucas ignored the nonsense and focused on the important part.
"So Nagini hasn't met Voldemort yet?"
"Ding! Correct! System analysis confirms Nagini has not yet encountered Voldemort. She was attracted purely by the host's Parseltongue aura and wishes to follow you voluntarily."
Lucas blinked.
"My aura?"
"Ding! Naturally! The same Parseltongue talent the host was complaining about earlier!"
The system sounded smug again.
"Parseltongue isn't simply the ability to communicate with snakes. Wizards possessing true Parseltongue talent naturally carry an aura that attracts serpents. Otherwise, how do you think Parselmouths command snakes so easily?"
Then it added proudly:
"And the host possesses the highest level of Parseltongue talent possible."
Meanwhile, Nagini had started misunderstanding Lucas's silence.
Her enormous head lowered slightly.
"Hiss… (If you feel troubled by it… then forget it. Perhaps we'll meet again someday.)"
She slowly turned around, clearly preparing to leave.
Lucas immediately spoke up.
"Hiss! (Wait.)"
Nagini paused instantly.
"Hiss… (You can follow me if you want. But there's one condition.)"
The giant snake turned back eagerly.
"Hissss? (What condition?)"
Lucas looked at her seriously.
"Hiss… (You're not allowed to attack people casually. Understood?)"
Nagini nodded happily.
Despite being a magical creature, her intelligence was extremely high. But living alone in the Albanian forests had left her painfully lonely for years. The only creatures she could normally communicate with were ordinary snakes, and most lacked true intelligence.
Now she had finally encountered someone capable of speaking with her properly.
And Lucas's aura naturally made her feel close and comfortable.
To Nagini, meeting him genuinely felt wonderful.
Lucas sighed quietly while looking at her enormous snake eyes.
A trace of pity appeared in his expression.
Unlike most people, he knew the truth.
Nagini had originally been human.
A victim of a blood curse that eventually transformed her permanently into a snake while erasing almost all traces of her human memories.
Someday, he would have to find a way to break that curse.
Absolutely because he pitied her tragic fate.
Definitely not because human Nagini had been unbelievably beautiful.
Definitely not.
