Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 Worthless!

Chapter - 9

Back in the shopping area, Hudson was still waiting with a smug grin.

When he saw Mia return, her cheeks slightly flushed and her walk a little unsteady — he narrowed his eyes, but he decided to ignore that as she quickly gave him a kiss; which tasted a little salty, but seeing Alex reappear as well, he ignored that detail too.

At that exact moment, Sophia Blake approached from the other direction, carrying more than a dozen heavy luxury shopping bags in both hands. She looked every bit the elegant, high-status beauty.

"Boss, I bought everything I thought suited you. It came to about three hundred thousand dollars. That's not too much right?" Sophia said, sounding a little proud but also cautious.

"It's fine. It's just a little money. Let's go pick out some accessories too," Alex shrugged casually, taking all the heavy bags from her hands with ease.

The two of them spoke as if no one else existed, but everyone around them looked like their eyes were about to pop out of their sockets.

"Did I hear that right? That woman is actually serving him? that guy totally looks like nobody!"

"I'm losing my mind — how can a broke guy get this kind of treatment?"

"What kind of world is this? Why don't I have a beauty like that with me?"

Many people clutched their hair in disbelief.

Hudson and Mia were even more shocked; if they heard correctly, those clothes cost three hundred thousand dollars?

Three hundred thousand… How many years would Hudson have to work to earn that? Yet Alex, the guy he had belittled earlier was spending it without even blinking.

Moreover, this stunning woman was clearly of high status — an unattainable beauty; but in front of Alex, she behaved like an obedient little assistant.

As Alex and Sophia started walking toward the accessories section, the unwilling Hudson stepped forward and blocked their path, his face twisted with anger.

"You're playing me, right? You hired someone to act with you? How shameless can you be?!"

Looking at the crazed Hudson, Alex had wanted to ignore him, but since the man insisted on seeking trouble, who was he to stop him?

Alex leaned over and whispered a few words to Sophia. She nodded with understanding, took out her phone, and quickly sent a message.

"Remember, I said with just one word I can make you lose everything. I'll give you one last chance — get out of my sight, and I'll let this go," Alex warned coldly.

Hudson laughed wildly, not taking the warning seriously at all. He even tried to grab Alex, wanting to expose the "scam" right there.

It wasn't until his phone suddenly rang that he regained a bit of sense.

"Hello, boss!" Hudson answered respectfully.

"You idiot! You're fired! Tell finance to settle your final pay immediately. And remember — don't ever mess with people you shouldn't mess with!" His boss's furious roar came through the phone, followed by an abrupt hang-up.

Hudson stood there stunned for a full minute, completely flustered, he couldn't believe he had just been fired.

What the hell had happened? Just last night he had been drinking and laughing with his boss and several executives, so why was everything collapsing so suddenly?

Without this job, he would lose everything. It would destroy him.

Suddenly, Alex's earlier words echoed in his mind, along with his boss's warning about "not messing with the wrong people." A terrifying realization hit him.

His face turned deathly pale.

"Could it be… Could it be that what he said was true?"

One word — and he had lost everything.

"I… I was wrong! I shouldn't have…!" Hudson cried out in regret, wanting to beg Alex for mercy, but unfortunately, Alex had already walked away without looking back, Sophia following closely behind.

Hudson was filled with extreme remorse.

Alex had clearly given him a chance, but he hadn't cherished it, and now it was too late.

He hadn't even noticed yet that his girlfriend Mia had a sly, satisfied smile on her face as she replayed the bathroom encounter in her mind, already thinking about how to "accidentally" run into Alex again.

...

Alex had no interest in worrying about Hudson or his girlfriend; to him, both were just insignificant nobody, not worth mentioning; though that woman had a great body he loved to pound, but with his luck and worth at the moment, he was certain that he would find many better options.

He and Sophia arrived at the counter of a famous luxury watch brand; since now he was a man of status, a proper watch was essential to match his identity.

Soon, Alex stopped in front of a sleek black watch.

"Sir, this is last year's hot model, it will suit you very well. But the price is a bit high," the pretty sales assistant introduced kindly.

She assumed this ordinary-looking man probably couldn't afford it; after all, the watch cost two hundred thousand dollars.

Alex nodded; it really did look good.

"What a pity…"

"What's a pity?" the salesgirl asked, thinking he was about to complain about the price.

But Alex said with disappointment, "It's a pity it's too cheap. Do you have anything more expensive?"

"Huh?" The salesgirl froze, her mouth slightly open, her cute pink tongue peeking out.

"I mean, this one is too cheap. Do you have anything over five hundred thousand? Preferably black… though other colors are fine too. Bring them all out." Alex's expression remained completely calm.

The salesgirl was utterly stunned.

He thought two hundred thousand was too cheap? Was this guy here just to mess with her? still, her professional training kicked in. She quickly brought out more than a dozen high-end watches and arranged them neatly on the counter.

Each one sparkled like a precious gem under the lights.

This was the true scent of money; Alex picked out the six he liked most, then casually tossed his black card to the salesgirl.

"Sir… are you serious? Six watches — the total comes to four hundred and eighty thousand dollars!"

If she weren't still on duty, she might have bitten her tongue in shock. Was he really playing with her?

"Money is just a string of numbers. Just swipe the card," Alex said calmly.

His words left the salesgirl completely dazed. With trembling hands, she swiped the card and asked him to enter the pin.

Beep — Payment successful!

The moment the machine confirmed it, she stood there petrified.

It was real! Four hundred and eighty thousand dollars — spent without even blinking.

'Was this still humanly capable? To him, was money really just a string of numbers?' Sure enough… she would never understand the world of the truly rich.
