The bathroom door was still swinging when Liam heard the splasha massive, wet explosion that rattled the lanterns hanging from the ceiling and sent a wave of hot, soapy water sloshing across the floorboards toward his bare feet.
"Midnight is joining!"
"MIDNIGHT!"
Liam paused in the hallway, a towel slung over one shoulder, and listened. Water is still slapping against the sides of the new bathtub. Elizabeth's voice is cracking.
"Don't just! You can't just there's room, you idiot, there's plenty of room without you jumping."
"Midnight likes cannonball."
"You got water in my mouth."
Liam moved toward the door. He stopped just short of it, bare feet on the wet floorboards, and listened to the water still settling. His tail swayed once behind him, brushing the doorframe as he leaned into the gap.
Steam rolled out. Warm and thick with lavender and something sweeter underneath. The lantern light caught the mist and turned everything soft.
