Chapter 25 - Chapter 25 — The Second Door

The door closed behind him.

This time… no sound.

No echo.

Just silence that felt alive.

Adam stood still for a moment.

His breathing slow.

Controlled.

He wasn't afraid anymore.

He was focused.

"Survive," the man had said.

A test.

Everything here was a test.

And Lia was the reason he was still walking forward.

He moved.

Step by step.

The corridor was different from the first one.

Not dark.

Not chaotic.

Clean.

Too clean.

Like the darkness had been removed… on purpose.

Adam's eyes scanned everything.

Corners.

Shadows.

Possible exits.

Patterns.

He was learning them.

Adapting.

Ahead of him—

Another door.

This one wasn't locked.

It was waiting.

As if it already knew he would come.

Adam stopped.

For a second.

Then pushed it open.

Inside—

Light.

White.

Sterile.

A chamber.

But not empty.

There were marks on the floor.

Scratches.

Burns.

Signs of struggle.

Recent.

Adam's eyes narrowed.

"…another test," he whispered.

Then—

A voice came.

Not from behind him this time.

From the room itself.

"You learn quickly."

Adam turned instantly.

Nothing.

Then—

Movement.

Above him.

He reacted just in time.

A body dropped from the ceiling.

Fast.

Heavy.

Adam blocked—but the impact forced him back.

Hard.

The creature landed silently.

Then stood.

It was human-shaped.

But wrong again.

Not fully transformed like the last one.

More… controlled.

Engineered.

Its eyes locked onto him.

No emotion.

No rage.

Just purpose.

Adam exhaled slowly.

"So you're improved…"

The creature didn't respond.

It attacked.

Immediately.

No warning.

No hesitation.

Adam dodged.

Barely.

The fight began.

Faster than the first one.

More precise.

This wasn't chaos.

This was training.

The organization was adjusting its experiments.

Learning from him.

Adam realized it instantly.

"…they're studying me," he muttered.

Another strike.

He blocked.

Countered.

Hit.

The creature staggered—

Then adapted.

Its movement changed.

Mid-fight.

"…of course," Adam said under his breath.

It was evolving.

In real time.

The room wasn't just a battlefield.

It was a data lab.

And he was the input.

The creature rushed again.

Faster.

Stronger.

Adam felt it too.

Inside him.

That same shift.

The reaction time.

The clarity.

The body pushing beyond normal limits again.

But this time—

He didn't hesitate.

He used it.

He stepped forward.

Instead of defending—

He attacked first.

A clean strike.

Precise.

Final.

The creature crashed into the wall.

And didn't move again.

Silence.

Adam stood still.

Breathing steady.

Then—

Clap.

Slow.

From the shadows.

A man appeared behind reinforced glass.

The same observer.

Watching.

Always watching.

"Better," he said.

Adam didn't react.

Only looked at him.

"Where is she?"

The man smiled slightly.

"Closer."

A pause.

Then—

"She saw you."

Adam's eyes sharpened.

"What did you do to her?"

The man tilted his head.

"We reminded her what she is."

Silence.

Heavy.

Wrong.

Adam stepped forward.

But stopped.

Because the room changed.

The walls shifted.

Mechanisms activated.

Another door opened.

Not in front of him.

Behind him.

The man spoke again.

"Third stage."

A pause.

"Continue."

Adam didn't turn.

He already understood.

This wasn't about survival anymore.

It was about breaking him.

But he stepped forward anyway.

Because Lia was still here.

Somewhere.

And that was enough.
