The injured sandworm fell to the ground, it let out a shriek. Kyle drove his sword into it's anterior.
"What was that for?" Kyle whipped the beads of sweat on his forehead.
"I think it was calling his friends" Vaygar studied the ground.
The tree they were on started sinking as the ground around them breaks apart. Several sandworms appeared from the cracks.
"We better get out of here" Kyle took to the skies but just like last time, a sandworm attacked him, forcing him back to the ground.
Kyle ducked, nearly avoiding a worm that tried to eat him.
"Looks like we would be in for a rough night" Floating above the rows of sandworm beneath him, Kyle summoned multiple ice Spears aiming them at the sandworms. The ice spears rained down, piercing their strong carapace, but that only slowed down the worms.
Seeing that the ice spears didn't do quite the damage he was hoping for, Kyle impaled some of them with earth spikes. He kept firing long range attacks to keep them at bay.
He sent a flame arrow to a worm that launched itself at him. The arrow passed effortlessly through the sandworm and caused an explosion when it hit the ground.
The battle raged on for an hour or so. The more Kyle killed the worms the more others came up from the cracks. He changed his tactics to short ranged, delving into the jaws of one, he tore it from the inside.
"Vaygar, come back" He ducked another, severing it's head.
"Are you sure about this" sensing his intentions, Vaygar sent back. Vaygar clawed a worm that tried to sneak up on him from below.
"We don't have time to test it out. Just do it". Evading the spikes hurled at him, he glanced at Vaygar running towards him. While he was distracted, a worm came up behind him, shutting it's jaws on him.
Kyle held its maw opened with his hands, he created a spear in between its jaws and shut it tight, making the spear to protrude from both ends of its jaw.
Vaygar ran as fast as he can to Kyle, several sandworms rushed at him, rows on rows of their teeths reflected the moonlight. Just before one of those teeth could touch him a lance fell from the sky, tearing the head that own those teeth.
"Here goes nothing" Vaygar leaped at Kyle dissolving into his body. The runes on Kyle arms glowed as Vaygar was absorbed. Black scales appeared on Kyle's hands, spreading to take the form of a gauntlet, each fingers ending with a claw.
The marks on Vaygar's face materialized on his. His hair grew longer extending from his nape to his lower back.
"Remember, you can only maintain beast rage for thirty minutes"
"Thirty minutes is more than enough". Kyle drew mana from the surroundings to coalesce on his palm. He sent the orb flying, tearing through all it touches. The orb paved a path for Kyle to get to the crack that was heavily guarded. He gutted, tore ripped, slaughtered every monster he came across leaving a trail of corpses wherever he went.
... THIRTY MINUTES LATER...
"I told you thirty minutes was enough". Kyle sat on top a mound of sandworm corpses. As far as the eye could see, the land had been scourge, covered with ash. The corpses themselves had been incinerated, only their shells remain.
Vaygar jumped out of Kyle's body, landing beside the corpses." Should we go into the crack?"
"No need for that, we need to recuperate and save our strength for later"
Kyle and Vaygar rested for the remaining hours of the night.
"Kyle someone's coming, I don't think he's someone we can take on in our current situation" Vaygar alerted Kyle. Still drowsy, Kyle opened his tired eyes in the direction Vaygar was facing. In the distance, someone covering himself with a red cloak approached them. In his hand is a lantern. He raised it up to his face, revealing his alabaster skin. His lips crept into a smile.
Kyle immediately recognize the man that stood before him. It was the same person who claimed to have been sent by the Dark Lord.
"Greetings esteemed guest of the Lord. I am Mongrel, and I have been sent to you by my Lord"
