Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Adventurer Party

The five-day teaching allowed Sylvia to quickly understand the common knowledge of this world, such as copper, silver, and gold coins, and how to judge their origin, year, and value based on the flower and leaf patterns printed on them.

100~110 Worn Copper Coins = 1 Silver Leaf Coin

100 Silver Leaf Coins = 1 Gold Flower Coin

"Most silver coins have a leaf pattern on the back because the earliest silver coins were silver leaves taken from the World Tree by the elves to be used as currency. Later, when various races made their own currency, they continued this design, mostly using leaves as patterns. Some are based on noble family crests, such as Marquis Warren in the east, who uses a wolf beast as a pattern."

"Despite the differences in patterns, silver coins have a unified standard for size and weight, as well as silver content requirements, which are universal across the continent."

"Then there are the gold coins, also known as Gold Flower Coins, because many gold coins have floral patterns on the back, representing the royal family that minted them," Winnie introduced.

"If other nobles, not the royal family, but just marquises and counts, can't they print flowers as patterns on silver coins?" Sylvia asked curiously.

"No," Winnie shook her head directly.

"Only the royal family can use flowers as heraldry. This involves a very long history and the top-level powers of the world."

After understanding the currency classification, Winnie told Sylvia about the general situation of the Regas Kingdom today.

The current reigning monarch of the Regas Kingdom is the 17th generation, Asatis, residing in White Cliff City. Due to its decline, Regas is no longer a kingdom but has been downgraded to a duchy, and the monarch is also known as the Grand Duke of Regas.

Every autumn, large merchant caravans set out from various places to the royal capital, White Cliff City, for trade, and then return before winter begins.

This trade will stockpile supplies and food for the entire winter. If certain territories lack food for the winter, they will spend huge sums in the trade to acquire surplus food from other territories to get through the difficulties.

"The country is mostly composed of three types of terrain: forests, mountains, and plains. The products vary from place to place. Currently, the area of Cinderstone City where we are is dominated by forests. So every autumn, merchant caravans are sent to purchase grain reserves to prevent food shortages in winter."

"Of course, we also have our own specialties, such as cedar wood, gum, fur, smoked meat, and some pickled fruits."

Then Winnie gave Tia a general idea of the prices of various common daily necessities to prevent this naive young lady from being cheated.

...

Four days later, at Winnie's house.

"Congratulations, Miss Tia, you have completed all the lessons. Now you know more about the local situation than 95% of the people on the street." Winnie closed the book and smiled to congratulate Sylvia.

The young girl recalled the various knowledge she had learned these days, from the growing times and animal husbandry points of various local crops, the map and terrain distribution of the Regas Kingdom, the origin and meaning of various noble crests, the general structure and functions of many guilds, and so on. Winnie could be said to have popularized the local environment for her in all aspects.

"Thank you, Teacher Winnie." She stood up and bowed.

"I am also very happy to have such a clever student like you," Winnie sighed. Tia's learning speed was the fastest she had ever seen. Many complex concepts didn't need much explanation; just mentioning a term, and the other party could quickly figure it out and understand it based on rules and logic.

This kind of talent was something Talia probably wouldn't be able to catch up with in her lifetime. Glancing at her absent-minded sister nearby, Winnie could only helplessly press her head.

"That's all for today. You've learned a lot these days, it's time to go out for a walk."

"Talia," she called her sister's name, startling the distracted girl.

"I'm here, what's wrong, sister?"

"Go out for a walk with Miss Tia this afternoon." Winnie gave the task directly.

"Okay, no problem." Hearing this, Talia was exceptionally happy; she finally didn't have to study here anymore.

...

After lunch, Sylvia and Talia walked on the streets of Cinderstone City. It was still sunny today, and the city was still bustling.

Dressed in a reddish-brown cloak, Sylvia stepped on the grayish-black stone bricks, her hands naturally at her sides, her pace leisurely.

"By the way, can ordinary people go to the Adventurers Guild to take a look?" She remembered the letter of introduction Frien had given her.

"Of course, but those adventurers are far stronger than ordinary people. Commoners don't really dare to get close to them."

"So that's how it is." Sylvia suddenly really wanted to know what level the adventurers in the city were generally at.

"Let's go take a look."

"I want to go too." Talia was actually very interested in adventurers, but unfortunately, her strength wasn't enough, so she had previously suppressed the idea of becoming an adventurer.

The two soon arrived at the main gate of the Adventurers Guild, looked at the tall door frame, and then walked inside.

The front hall here was exceptionally spacious, even usable as a bar, but they didn't sell alcohol here; there were just many empty seats for people who came to rest.

As far as the eye could see, adventurers and mercenaries with weapons were everywhere. Most of them wore leather armor, while a few were equipped with half-body iron chainmail. Unlike soldiers, these adventurers would carry various tools with them, such as ropes, iron traps for capturing, net cages, fire oil, and so on.

At this moment, some people were gathered under the bulletin board, looking at the bounties on it.

"A monster attacking merchant caravans has appeared near summerstone Town, form unknown, bounty 60 silver coins."

"Buying First Order Beast teeth, 3 silver coins per single tooth, 20 silver for long fangs."

"Seeking to purchase 'Water Mist Orchid', 23 silver coins per stalk, three stalks needed in total."

"Kill the Mutant Otters upstream of Lindsey Village, bounty 2 silver for one, about twenty in total."

...

Under the bulletin board, a team that Sylvia found slightly familiar was also standing there, searching for bounties to do.

"Big brother Jello, how about we go kill those otters? This one looks easy." A young man in simple leather armor spoke; the corners of his eyes were slightly long, giving his face a somewhat fierce look.

"Those otters aren't easy to deal with." The strong man called Jello shook his head, his broad palm pressing on the young man's head, almost able to cover it.

Rough fingers toyed with the young man's hair, and the man grinned as he explained, "If we want to take out the otters, we have to go into the water. But once we're in the water, our combat power is far inferior to when we're on land."

"Those otters are probably beasts tainted by the essence. They are extremely fast in the water and very smart. If we take a boat, they will gouge through the bottom."

"I've seen many adventurers suffer because of this before," he said, drawing from past experience.

"Ah, then how do we handle this task? Do we have to hire a professional hunter to help?" The young man asked, pushing the palm off his head with both hands.

"Hahaha, no need for that. I'm quite experienced in dealing with otters. Let's go, take the task first, and then we'll go to the Apothecary Guild next door to get some things." He patted the young man's shoulder, then had his companions squeeze to the front of the bulletin board to take the bounty.

"Our adventure team will take this task."

"Alright, I'll register it for you. According to the rules, please pay a 5 silver coin deposit first." The receptionist walked over upon hearing them.

"Hehe, let's start with some snacks as an appetizer this time." Saying this, the few people walked to the counter on the side to register.

After these people left, it became a bit quieter under the bulletin board, and the crowd whispered about other bounties.

"60 silver for the monster in Shuigou Town, looks very tempting."

"I reckon it's a First Order Fanged Beast, otherwise the bounty wouldn't be so high."

"If it's a First Order, then 60 silver is a bit low." One person said, shaking his head.

"It depends on the harvest. If that First Order Fanged Beast has a lot of valuable parts, the hunting value alone would be enough to make up for the bounty."

"Look at Jello and his team. For that Red Wolf they killed last time, the bounty money was only a small part; the bulk of it was the wolf skin and materials from its body."

The sounds of discussion made the adventurer hall noisy. These people who lived on the edge of a blade looked at the bounties with burning eyes.

Even though the process was full of danger, those tangible silver coins were so beautiful. Just taking down one bounty was worth a year of hard work. Such a temptation was hard to resist.
