After turning off the television, Kai remained on the edge of his bed, staring at the dark screen.

It wasn't painful, but he couldn't ignore it. Whenever he moved, he felt it beneath his arms and across his chest, deeper than before.
His phone buzzed.
A private message from Angel appeared outside the stream.

Kai locked the phone and placed it face-down on the bed.
He didn't reply.
Sleep came late.

Kai sat up.

He ignored the comment and got out of bed.

He dressed and left the apartment.

It no longer required his attention.
He could feel it while walking, sitting, even when his hands were resting at his sides. It wasn't giving him any obvious increase in strength. It was simply there, waiting.
Kai was crossing the open area near the library when he heard an engine rev.
He turned his head.
A car came around the corner far too quickly.
The driver was looking down at a phone.
Kai was already in the crosswalk.
