Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Master and Servant

"Hmph, Betty hasn't fallen so low as to need sympathy from a human. Now, please leave!"

Betty's purpose had been achieved. Letting Green into the Forbidden Library was only to see if he could cause a change in the book of wisdom.

At this moment, there was no need for Green to stay in her room any longer.

"Betty..."

Green hesitated to speak, but he understood that Betty had already issued an order to leave. Lingering here would only cause her resentment.

Before opening the door, Green couldn't help but turn back and say obscurely, "Betty, if you want words to appear in the book, it's better to write them in yourself."

"Hehe, Master, maybe this idiot is illiterate?"

"Holy crap!"

Green was startled by the magic mirror's remark and quickly covered its mouth.

"Despicable insect."

On the other side, Betty was already fuming with rage. Her twin drills fluttered under the intense fluctuations of mana, and a bright purple crystal spike condensed in her palm, its sharp tip pointed straight at the magic mirror.

Squeak— Thud!

The action of opening and closing the door was completed in an instant, and Green successfully escaped from the Forbidden Library.

"Master, why didn't you let me speak? That shorty actually wanted to use me as a nail; she's courting death!"

"Grandpa, I give up. Can you stop causing trouble for me?"

Frustrated, Green gripped the magic mirror in his hand and shook it vigorously until the magic mirror was dizzy, and even the eyes manifested on the mirror's surface turned into spirals.

"Stop, stop, stop! Master, listen to me. I sensed many powerful magic books in that room just now. As long as we strike first and take out that little girl, all the treasures will be ours! Ahahaha!"

Green felt a headache coming on. He realized this magic mirror was purely malicious, but fortunately, its strength wasn't much. Otherwise, it would likely cause quite a few disasters.

"Fine, I'll send you to take her out!"

Green decided to give the magic mirror a small lesson. He turned around, opened the door a crack, and prepared to toss the magic mirror inside.

"Ah, me? Wait, Master, I don't know how to fight!"

Ignoring the magic mirror's wails, Green resolutely threw it in, then slammed the door shut with a loud "bang."

"Phew... finally quiet..."

Green slumped down, leaning against the door to rest for a moment.

Just then, a gentle female voice suddenly spoke, breaking the brief peace.

"Good morning, Mr. Green. Is it alright if I address you this way?"

Green looked toward the source of the voice; it was actually Emilia wearing casual home clothes.

It was a loose, light misty-blue knitted long dress that almost hid her waistline. Fine snowflake patterns were woven into the collar and cuffs, flashing with a silver-white reflection only occasionally as she walked.

The hem reached down to her ankles but left her bare feet exposed. Her toes were as clean as snow that had never stepped on the mortal world, and her nails had a pale pink hue. She wore a pair of open-toed wooden shoes on the deep walnut-colored floor, looking like cherry blossom petals fallen against the night sky.

Although he had long expected this Half-Elf's appearance to be extraordinary, Green really hadn't expected this girl to be beautiful to such an extent.

Seeing the slight look of surprise in Green's eyes, Emilia quickly took a few steps back and said apologetically:

"I'm sorry, Mr. Green. I didn't mean to startle you."

Having said that, Emilia quickly smoothed her hair forward, trying to hide her peculiar pointed ears.

Emilia instinctively thought that Green was frightened by her appearance as a silver-haired Half-Elf.

After all, her appearance was very similar to the legendary Witch of Envy, Satella, who had consumed half the world.

"Sigh, my dense daughter, this is clearly the normal reaction of a young man seeing you!"

Countless starlights lit up in front of Emilia, eventually converging into a furry little cat. This must be one of the Four Great Spirits, Puck.

"Is that so?"

Emilia's panicked expression softened quite a bit. She hadn't yet repaid Green's kindness for returning the royal selection badge, so it would be bad if she had scared him.

"You must be one of the Royal Selection Candidates, Lady Emilia. As the rumors say, you are a lady who is both beautiful and gentle."

Green placed his left hand over his heart and bowed slightly to greet Emilia.

A slight blush flashed across Emilia's cheeks, and she hurriedly stopped Green:

"Mr. Green really knows how to comfort people. How could I possibly have such a good reputation? This isn't a formal occasion, so there's no need for such formality. Speaking of which, I haven't officially thanked you yet."

Green replied kindly, "In that case, Emilia, there's no need for honorifics either. Just call me Green."

"My, my, it seems a guy skilled at flirting has arrived at the Mansion! Don't think you can easily cross my line of defense, Green-kun."

Puck crossed his arms and flew in front of Green, acting like a protective father blocking a scoundrel.

No matter how dense Emilia was, she could understand the meaning behind Puck's words and quickly caught the spirited Puck.

"Puck, honestly, you're teasing me again."

Puck rubbed against Emilia's face and said gently, "I can't help it, Lia. My dear daughter is just too beautiful. If I let my guard down, you might be tricked away by some bad guy."

"Mou~ Puck~"

Emilia blushed slightly from Puck's praise, her hands tightly clutching the hem of her clothes.

Puck enjoyed Emilia's shy state for a moment before finally showing a satisfied smile.

"By the way, Green-kun, why did you come out of Lia's room? You couldn't be carrying out some evil activity, could you?"

Puck had wanted to ask just now, but Emilia was too cute, so he prioritized teasing her.

Hearing this, Emilia also realized, her bright eyes filled with confusion.

"Eh? That's right, Green-kun, what are you doing here?"

"Ah? Is this your room?"

Green looked back; the door in front of him was indeed different from the one he had entered.

It seemed that opening the gate of opportunity from inside the Forbidden Library would also lead to a random door in the Mansion, and by some coincidence, it happened to be Emilia's room.

"No... don't misunderstand. I came out from Betty's place; I didn't actually enter Emilia's room."

Emilia realized, "I see. Green-kun opened the gate of opportunity. Alright, Puck, it seems this was just a misunderstanding."

Squeak—

Suddenly, the door to Emilia's room was opened from the inside at an inopportune moment, and a wretched voice even drifted out.

"Jie jie jie! Master, Master, look what good stuff I found! A pair of socks sewn from high-grade silk! They're perfect for wrapping around this Great One's handle; they should help prevent some wear and tear."

The magic mirror slipped out through the crack in the door, and that pair of soft-textured socks was held aloft beside him with mana.

"I'll share one with you, Master. Smell it, it even has a fragrance!"

With that, the magic mirror cast a spell to move one of the socks in front of Green.

Slap!

Green made a split-second decision, jumping up and delivering a slap that sent both the sock and the magic mirror flying.

"Where did this ghost come from, having the nerve to claim a master!"

"Ouch! Master, why did you hit me again?"

"Wait, I need to make a statement here: I have absolutely no connection with this mirror!"
