Chapter 35 - Shisui Gradually Deceived by Danzo
Shisui walked alone in the deserted park, staring blankly at the azure sky.
The number of extremists in the clan was growing, and these extremists were generally quite powerful — it was hard to imagine what they might do if left unchecked.
The clan head now had to carefully measure every word and action, lest a single misunderstanding give those extremists an excuse to drag him along into open rebellion.
The information from Itachi's side confirmed that the Hokage had been taking measures, but the people within the clan simply refused to accept them. It was a genuine headache.
Shisui had been sitting with one particular idea: using his eyes to quietly adjust the clan head's thinking.
Though he was still unsure whether the current clan head truly wanted to overthrow Konoha, or simply wanted to live in peace.
Fugaku, internally: If I ever actually wanted to rebel, I would have done it already.
Sasuke handed me such a perfect opportunity by befriending the Jinchuriki, and I didn't take it. And now you want to rewrite my will?!
Recently, another senior figure in Konoha had taken a particular interest in Shisui.
That person was none other than the advisor of Konoha, student of the Second Hokage, founder of the Root organization — Shimura Danzo.
He had approached Shisui several times to ask about the internal situation of the Uchiha clan, and had offered Shisui a number of methods to help ease the tensions.
For Shisui, this felt like a lifeline — and gradually, Danzo's standing in his heart began to rise.
Danzo, internally: Hehehe. I created most of those conflicts myself. Resolving them is simply a matter of me choosing to say a few words.
Unaware of any of this, Shisui made his decision: he would tell the Hokage about his Mangekyou Sharingan abilities today.
After all, the Hokage was the true leader of the village. Danzo was only an elder.
Sarutobi, internally: That's right, Danzo. I am the Hokage!
Having made up his mind and explained his plans to his close friend Itachi, Shisui made his way to the Hokage's office.
Knock knock knock.
A soft knock — polite, measured, causing absolutely no damage to the door whatsoever.
"Come in."
Sarutobi's voice came from inside.
Shisui stepped in and knelt on one knee.
"Oh, Shisui. What brings you here?"
Sarutobi rubbed his temples, trying to gather his focus.
The Uchiha clan had been generating far too much turbulence lately.
Any information related to them required careful attention.
"Lord Hokage, the conflicts within the clan are becoming increasingly serious."
"The clan head has been hesitant to make his position clear, and has called the clansmen to gather at the ancestral hall several times now."
"I am very worried that they will eventually pose a danger to the village."
Sarutobi nodded slowly. The information matched what Fugaku had reported to him directly.
"So... I want to use my Mangekyou Sharingan's ability to adjust the clan head's thinking."
Mangekyou Sharingan... wait. A technique that rewrites someone's will?
Shisui suddenly looked up. His eyes bearing an intricate pattern entirely distinct from the standard three-tomoe design met the Third Hokage's gaze directly.
"This is the power I gained after witnessing the sacrifice of my comrades during the Third Shinobi World War.
It is called Kotoamatsukami it can modify the will of others without them ever realizing it."
Shisui's tone had taken on a faint edge of obsession.
"And now, I want to use it to unify Konoha and protect our village."
Sarutobi calmly shifted his gaze away.
Another one on the edge.
The Mangekyou Sharingan was documented in records left behind by the Second Hokage.
Awakened through profound emotional trauma, it carried a known side effect it gradually destabilized the Uchiha's mental state, pushing them toward extreme actions.
The power itself was formidable.
It was precisely why the Second Hokage had written what he had about the Uchiha clan.
The priority right now was to bring Shisui back to a calm state. The boy still genuinely loved the village that much was clear.
Sarutobi's more immediate concern was the possibility that if he said the wrong thing, his own will might be quietly rewritten before he noticed.
"Don't worry.
Fugaku has already spoken with me about the current state of the clan. There is no intention to rebel. You don't need to use your eyes — not yet."
At those words, the intensity in Shisui's eyes gradually faded. The pattern softened back to its standard three-tomoe form, and he lowered his head.
"I see... Understood, Hokage-sama."
Good. He's still reachable.
"How about this —I'm giving you a day off. Go visit the hot spring town and clear your head."
Sarutobi offered the vacation with quiet deliberateness.
If he let this boy keep going at this pace, there was a real risk of him crossing a line one day without realizing it.
"But the village still needs"
"No arguments. That's an order."
Sarutobi cut him off firmly.
This is a good kid. The last thing I need is for him to accidentally rewrite someone's will because his nerves finally gave out.
---
After Shisui left, Sarutobi sat quietly for a moment.
What a headache. How did such a good child end up with an ability like that?
Danzo seemed quite interested in Shisui recently. Maybe I should ask for his input.
Danzo, internally: YES. This is exactly the moment I have been waiting for.
After learning of Shisui's ability from Sarutobi, Danzo put on a very convincing display of concern.
"Sigh... another unstable factor. Such a good child how did things come to this?"
His voice was heavy with what sounded like genuine sadness.
Sarutobi didn't move his eyes. He knew his old friend far too well for any of this to land.
There's a very high chance he's already planning to pull Shisui into Root.
"Danzo! I came here to discuss a solution, not to listen to you perform grief!"
Sarutobi slapped the desk. Then paused and glanced at it. Hm. Good quality. Not a scratch.
"Ahem. Sarutobi — what if I handle this personally?"
Danzo posed the question with practiced casualness.
"Absolutely not. Shisui is a child who carries the Will of Fire. I will not hand him over to your Root."
Sarutobi's voice was sharp. What he wanted was a genuine resolution to the tension between the Uchiha clan and the village — not for Shisui to disappear into Danzo's organization.
"Sarutobi, there's really no need to—"
"Enough, Danzo. You can leave. Stay out of this matter."
Sarutobi's disappointment in his old friend was unmistakable.
"You stubborn old fool, Sarutobi! You'll regret this!"
Danzo rose sharply to his feet, eyes fixed on Sarutobi's face.
"Hmph. I am the Hokage, Danzo.
Go back to your Root."
Sarutobi's presence did not waver because he was the one sitting in the Hokage's chair. Not Shimura Danzo.
Danzo stormed out of the office and slammed the door behind him.
Bang!
Door: Do you have any idea how hard it is for me? This man slams me every single time.
Sarutobi slumped back onto the Hokage's throne, pressing his fingers to his temples which had been rubbed countless times before.
"Ah... the Uchiha clan~"
A quiet exhaustion settled over the office.
But outside in the corridor, Danzo's eyes gleamed.
Hmph. You think you can simply cut me out of this, Sarutobi?
I won't let this opportunity slip away.
Kotoamatsukami... a Mangekyou ability that rewrites the will of others. Hehehe. What a remarkable power.
When the time comes not only will Hiruzen's Hokage seat be mine... but Hiruzen himself will answer to me.
Hehehehe!
