Chapter 127 - The Deal — Becoming Rich Overnight

After learning that Red was willing to trade the Dynamax technology, Professor Oak didn't waste a single second and rushed to Mossweed City at top speed.

Inside Mossweed Gym, Professor Oak looked at Red with anticipation written all over his face.

"You're really willing to hand over the manufacturing method for the Dynamax Device?"

Dynamax itself wasn't some absolute secret.

While the Pokémon world was vast, the Kanto League had still gathered bits and pieces of information regarding Dynamax phenomena in the Galar region.

"Yeah."

Red nodded.

"Keeping the technology to myself would ultimately be a waste."

"Gym Leader Red is truly noble and selfless!"

Professor Oak immediately exclaimed.

"On behalf of Kanto—no, on behalf of trainers across the entire League—I thank you!"

"You're truly the most outstanding young Gym Leader in Kanto's history! The number one among Kanto's Ten Outstanding Youths! Even an old professor like me can't compare!"

Red remained completely calm as Professor Oak showered him with praise.

If it were any ordinary eighteen-year-old, being praised by the legendary Professor Oak like this would probably send them floating straight into the clouds.

But Red remained unmoved.

Compared to empty compliments, he preferred things that were more practical.

Like money.

Or rare resources.

Besides, he understood very clearly that although Dynamax was impressive, it also came with several fatal flaws.

For example, it couldn't directly increase a Pokémon's base strength.

It could only be used indoors in areas saturated with Dynamax energy.

More importantly—

Through his unreliable father's information network, Red had learned that Galar's research into Dynamax Devices was already approaching a major breakthrough.

Once Galar successfully completed their own Dynamax Devices, the value of Red's designs, blueprints, and manufacturing methods would plummet.

So rather than waiting for Dynamax Devices to become commonplace, he chose to sell at the peak.

And sell it to the League for the highest possible price.

"Ahem."

Red coughed lightly.

"Professor Oak, let's discuss something a bit more practical. A few compliments aren't enough to take the Dynamax Device home."

Professor Oak was an old veteran.

He wasn't embarrassed in the slightest.

"True."

He nodded.

"Gym Leader Red is a rational person. Not like those young hotheads in the League who lose their minds after a few compliments."

Professor Oak stopped wasting time and got straight to the point.

"So, what do you want? Name your price. I'll handle the League side."

"Since you're asking..."

Red smiled.

"First, ten billion Pokédollars in annual funding."

"Second, ten high-tier resources from the collection you showed me last time."

"Third, ten percent of all future profits from Dynamax Device sales."

...

Professor Oak laughed.

More specifically—

He was laughing because Red had nearly made him explode.

The professor immediately stood up and headed for the door without even touching his tea.

Seeing this, Red quickly grabbed his arm.

"Hey, Professor Oak."

"You told me to ask for whatever I wanted."

"We can still negotiate the numbers."

Professor Oak glared at him.

"Do you even know what ten billion Pokédollars per year means?"

"The League's annual funding for all eight Gym Leaders combined is only around two billion!"

"What, you want half the budget for yourself?"

"And ten high-tier resources?"

"Do you think they're cabbages?"

"Why don't you just ask for the entire League while you're at it?"

"Then you wouldn't need resources or money anymore. The entire Kanto Region would belong to you."

Red wasn't embarrassed in the slightest.

"So what do you think is reasonable?"

Professor Oak answered immediately.

"Ten million Pokédollars annually."

"Two high-tier resources of your choice."

"And at most one percent profit sharing."

Hearing that offer, Red stood up decisively.

"Then Professor Oak can see himself out."

"I'd rather smash the Dynamax Device than sell it at that price."

As he spoke, he actually reached for the Dynamax Device as if preparing to destroy it.

That instantly terrified the League negotiators present.

Several of them rushed forward to stop him.

"Wait! Wait! There's room for discussion!"

Soon both parties returned to the negotiating table.

What followed was a lengthy and intense bargaining war.

"My Dynamax Device is right here!"

"Not a single word less than my conditions!"

"You think my Champion grandfather, Elite Four father, and Legendary Pokémon friends are decorations?!"

"Stop trying to pressure us with your connections!"

Professor Oak slammed the table.

"This old man is a Champion-level trainer too! Do you think I'm afraid of you?!"

...

After both sides thoroughly exchanged opinions...

They finally reached a preliminary agreement.

Agreement Terms

Clause 1:

Annual League funding of 50 million Pokédollars.

Clause 2:

Four high-tier resources of Red's choosing.

Clause 3:

2% annual profit share from Dynamax Device sales.

After the deal was finalized, Professor Oak looked at Red and sighed.

"Kid, you've struck it rich this time."

"These resources should last you for years, right?"

Red merely grinned.

Being able to obtain this much was already beyond his expectations.

He was more than satisfied.

"Not at all, Professor."

"What little I've gained is nothing compared to your generosity."

Professor Oak was also smiling now.

Successfully acquiring the Dynamax Device put him in an excellent mood.

"Alright."

"Tell me."

"Which four high-tier resources do you want? I'll have the League send them over as soon as possible."

Without hesitation, Red answered:

"The one I want most is an abandoned Articuno nest."

"And a Dragon Pearl left behind by a Champion-level Dragonair."

"I want those two."

Professor Oak clicked his tongue.

"You really know how to pick the expensive ones."

Red simply smiled without denying it.

"What about the other two?"

Professor Oak asked.

"If you don't know what to choose, tell me the type of resources you want. I can help search the League treasury."

Hearing that, Red's eyes immediately lit up.

"Then I'll have to trouble you, Professor Oak."

"As for the remaining two resources, the types I'm looking for are..."
