Chapter 29 - Reasonable Extortion

Seeing the undisguisable excitement on their faces, Jason smiled.

Although the price of 130 million USD was a bit expensive, compared to this epoch-making technology, this amount of money was nothing.

Moreover, Jason and the researchers at SPX were pleasantly surprised to discover something.

This technology actually fit highly with a major project they were currently working on, and it even solved many problems that had been troubling them.

This was the reason why he decisively gave up his vacation and flew to Miami in an emergency.

But what he didn't expect was that Nick quickly sobered up from that excited state and then looked at him with a smile.

Jason saw this and asked with a smile: "Nicholas, are you satisfied with our agreement?"

Nick smiled and didn't answer, but instead looked at him and said: "Mr. Jason, as far as I know, your company is mainly engaged in the aerospace and automotive industries; it seems you don't really need our technology, right?"

After hearing his words, Jason shook his head and said: "No, Nicholas. In fact, we can use your technology in many fields."

"For example, in autonomous driving technology, your technology can greatly help us and open up a new path for us."

Nick nodded and continued to smile: "Anything else?"

For his persistent questioning, Jason was a bit confused, but still smiled and said: "For instance, I am also very interested in the field of intelligent drone logistics transport."

"Anything else?" Nick looked at him and continued to ask.

"Hmm?"

Nick's continued questioning made Jason frown involuntarily: "Nicholas, what do you mean by this?"

Nick didn't answer, but looked at him and smiled: "I haven't congratulated you and your company yet. Congratulations on your successful launch of sixty satellites."

"Yesterday, I was looking at a photo on Facebook. A bright band of stars appeared in the vast night sky; it was truly spectacular."

Hearing Nick's words, Jason's expression changed instantly.

Although it was only for a split second, Nick keenly captured it.

Sure enough, he had guessed right.

Nick breathed a sigh of relief in his heart, then continued to say with a smile: "The 'Starchain' project—I originally thought it was still in the experimental stage, but I didn't expect it to be officially implemented so quickly. And launching 60 satellites at once? It seems your company has a lot of confidence in your technology."

"What are you trying to say?" Jason leaned forward, then stared at him with a serious face.

Seeing this, Nick shook his head, then leaned back in his chair and said with a sarcastic smile: "Mr. Jason, don't you think that compared to the massive 'Starchain' system facilitated by ten thousand communication satellites, this 130 million USD is too cheap?"

"You are extorting us!" Jason roared at him after listening to the translation.

Jason's sudden outburst of anger not only startled Nick and his group but also the interpreter next to them, who then translated for Nick cautiously, fearing that Nick might also get angry.

What she didn't expect was that Nick didn't get angry, but calmly replied: "But it is reasonable, isn't it?"

"No, this is not reasonable."

Jason shook his head quickly and said: "Nicholas, 130 million USD is definitely a price with great sincerity. Believe me, you won't get a higher price from anyone else besides us."

Nick didn't rush to reply, but took a slow sip of water before looking at him and saying: "That's not necessarily true. There are many people who have their eyes on this technology and are willing to pay a high price for it. For example, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Tesla to name a few."

"You should have heard of these names; they are drooling over this technology. By then, it won't be just this 130 million USD price tag. I think you should understand that."

Hearing his words, Jason didn't continue to get angry as others had imagined, but instead fell silent.

After a while, he looked at Nick and said calmly: "Nicholas, you should understand that without your technology, our project can still proceed. This technology is far less important than you imagine."

"Of course, I know you can continue. But since there is more advanced technology, how can people go back to using backward technology?"

"Moreover, this technology can save a considerable amount of expenses for the entire massive project. You should know that there is more than one company interested in the 'Starchain' project," Nick replied with a smile.

"But we are the only company that can launch satellites so cheaply," Jason argued unconvinced.

Nick nodded and smiled: "That's right, but that's only for now. You are not irreplaceable. Space X is getting cheaper and cheaper."

His words made Jason widen his eyes and stare at him, but unexpectedly, Jason didn't get angry, but lowered his head and whispered to a few people beside him.

Seeing this, Nick didn't urge him, but sat there chatting and laughing quietly with Tyler and Zack.

Through this dialogue between Nick and Jason, the three of them—Tyler and the others—had heard most of it.

They weren't stupid, so they naturally knew that this number could definitely be increased, and thus they were all beaming with joy.

After waiting for a while, Jason finally said to him seriously: "Nicholas, how can you guarantee that your technology will definitely be applicable to our project?"

"In addition, in order to better evaluate this technology, we need you to provide relevant materials."

"Only after these are confirmed can we continue to talk about this damn price."

Nick shook his head upon hearing this: "I can provide the materials, but whether it is applicable or not, that requires your own evaluation and judgment. I will not provide a guarantee."

"But I can confirm one thing: in terms of cluster array management and control, our technology is absolutely leading the world."

"OK!"

Upon hearing Nick's words, Jason packed up his documents, stood up, and said to him: "We need to conduct a more in-depth evaluation of your technology, so let's stop the negotiations here for today."

"After we get the results, we will contact you as soon as possible to continue the discussions."

Nick also stood up and said: "No problem, the materials will be sent to you shortly. However, I hope you can be faster, because there are many companies waiting."

"You know, we young people don't have that much patience."

Jason nodded and said: "We will be as fast as possible, striving to give you a reply within a week. Good things always require waiting. I hope you have more patience; you will reap more rewards this way."

"I look forward to it!"

Nick said with a smile, then suddenly remembered something and said to Jason: "By the way, I forgot to tell you, we are returning to Atlanta soon due to some personal matters. If you have made a decision, come find us in Atlanta."

"Oh, Atlanta? I have been looking forward to the scenery there for a long time," Jason said with a smile.

"Is that so? Then I will look forward to your visit!"
