Ever since he had saved Lin Ruofei, Fang Yu had rarely been subjected to the petty torments of Lin Ruofei and Yan Ting.
Naturally, in return, Fang Yu prepared breakfast for them each and every morning.
In the blink of an eye, the start of the school term drew near.
Early one morning, Uncle Li's car pulled up outside the apartment building.
"Uncle Li, you're here bright and early." A smile played across Fang Yu's face, his expression unwavering even as he met the contemptuous look in the older man's eyes.
Fang Yu paid little mind to Uncle Li's hostile attitude. Had he taken a kick to the groin from another man, he would doubtless be glaring at his assailant with far more venom.
"Fang Yu, I'll have someone drive you to the school shortly. Here are your student registration documents." Uncle Li looked Fang Yu up and down, then held out a sealed file folder to him.
"Student registration?" Fang Yu froze, staring at Uncle Li with a look of utter bewilderment.
"That's right. Tingting's school term is about to begin, and she's entering her final year of high school. To keep her safe, you must stay by her side at all times, and to avoid arousing suspicion, you will enter the school under the guise of a fellow student." Uncle Li spoke in a flat, unemotional tone, before adding, "These are Master Yan's orders."
"If that's the case, then very well. I agree." The moment he heard the orders came from Yan Huaimin, Fang Yu could not very well refuse. The man had paid him a handsome sum for his services, after all, and he would never stand in the way of his own paycheck.
"Uncle Li, we're ready! Let's go!" No sooner had Fang Yu finished speaking than Yan Ting's voice rang out from the second floor.
Fang Yu turned around to see Yan Ting and Lin Ruofei making their way down the stairs.
Yan Ting was dressed in simple, unassuming clothes that day; anyone who did not know her would have taken her for the daughter of an ordinary family. Even so, her innate, refined air could not be concealed by her plain attire.
As for Lin Ruofei, her jet-black hair cascaded loosely over her shoulders. Her crisp white short-sleeved top accentuated the soft curve of her chest, while her tiny denim shorts left her long, smooth legs on full display before Fang Yu's gaze.
"Hmph." Yan Ting's brows furrowed sharply under Fang Yu's unguarded stare. She glanced over at Lin Ruofei beside her, then down at herself, and couldn't help but pout.
Fang Yu shrugged faintly, amused by Yan Ting's petulant reaction. A woman's figure was a matter of natural development, after all; it was hardly anyone else's fault that the young miss had a more modest frame.
"Miss Ruofei, your father called Master Yan just now to make the arrangements. I've had you both placed in the same class. Fang Yu, as your bodyguard, will also be attending the school alongside you." Uncle Li spoke up once he saw all three of them had gathered.
"What? This guy is coming to school too?" The moment Uncle Li finished speaking, Yan Ting's eyes flew wide in shock. Lin Ruofei, by contrast, had a faint, enigmatic smile spreading across her face, her thoughts unreadable.
"That is correct. After your previous abduction attempt, and with Miss Ruofei's near-abduction last night, Master Yan has decided it best for the two of you to stay together, with Fang Yu providing discreet protection." Uncle Li spoke with solemn gravity.
"What? Lin Niu, you were nearly kidnapped last night?" Yan Ting gasped, spinning around at once to stare at Lin Ruofei.
"Mm." Lin Ruofei nodded, making no attempt to hide the truth. She pointed at Fang Yu and said, "He saved me last night."
"Hmph. So you finally did something right for once. Seeing as you saved Lin Niu, I'll graciously promote you to our personal bodyguard." Yan Ting patted her chest, more modest in size than Lin Ruofei's, and pulled a playful face at Fang Yu as she spoke.
"Thank you for your mercy, Miss Yan." Fang Yu spoke with solemn sincerity, even as a wave of relief washed over him. At long last, the two girls had accepted him.
"Fang Yu, step outside with me for a moment. There's something I need to ask you." Uncle Li's voice rang out suddenly.
