She sighs, leaning over my desk. "Same as last time. You have the brain. GED doesn't just care about that. They care about the proof. The procedures matter. Now show me the two steps to this problem."
I internally sigh so loud it hurts, and write it out. It's not that I don't know it, I'm just doing everything I can to minimize my stress today. Is that a bad thing to do? Fuck the GED. Fuck everything.
"Good." Mrs. Ruiz nods, patting my back once. Her hand is warm. "You're not going to get good points for being smart in secret."
Maria, who is sitting across from me, laughs under her breath. She leans in close to whisper as soon as Mrs. Ruiz turns away to check someone else's work.
"She tells me the same thing. My son does that all the time. In his head. It's smart, smarter," she says.
