Chapter 11 - Distraction

Allen was on the outskirts of Leno City as he looked at the once bustling town reduced to a place teeming with danger, death and destruction as zombies loomed around every corner.

'The problem is the forest doesn't extend until that part, which means I will lose my cover and be spotted by zombies as I make my way.'

'I need a distraction to divert their attention. And I have just the tool for it.'

Allen willed for an item to appear in his hand from the Inventory and soon enough a gray grenade appeared in his hand.

It was the Sound Grenade he received as a reward for killing the Grade 1 Undead.

Allen positioned himself and took on a throwing stance as he looked in the direction that was opposite to where he would go.

Clink

He pulled the pin and turned off the safety lever before throwing it with all his might using his newly enhanced strength to the fullest.

Whoosh!

The grenade cut through the air as it travelled at a dizzying speed.

Allen looked at it closely as he saw it easily cross the 150 meter threshold before gravity started to pull it downwards.

Thunk!

It crossed over 300 meters before making contact with the ground.

BOOM!

FLASH!

A deafening boom resounded followed by a blinding flash of light.

From the distance, Allen could see the zombies becoming disoriented as they instinctively covered their ears and let loud and heavy growls.

After the zombies regained their bearings they immediately ran towards the sound of the commotion thinking they had found prey.

Allen looked at this scene of thousands of zombies making their way to the source of the boom with bated breath.

'Damn, I would have been toast if I didn't distract them.' Allen thought as he wiped a small bead of sweat from his forehead.

Seeing that most of the zombies in the area were gone, Allen didn't waste any further time as he started the bike and made his way to the nearest neighborhood.

Vroooomm!!

Along the way, it started to rain heavily as he came across many zombies but managed to avoid them with his effective use of Vehicle Mastery.

'Luckily most zombies around went towards where the sound grenade exploded.'

After some time, Allen successfully reached his destination, Wion Neighborhood.

The place was teeming with zombies in every corner. They walked around looking for survivors to make them a part of their horde.

Allen had entered a dilapidated building as he looked over the thousands of zombies below.

'There's got to be around 10000 of these motherf*****s from the looks of it.' He thought, panning his gaze when suddenly it stopped on a particular building.

"Huh?"

A figure clad in a blue hoodie was fiddling with a strange remote in his hands, he was engrossed with what looked like a screen on the remote.

'Is he controlling a-'

Before Allen could finish his train of thoughts, he saw a drone carrying what seemed to be a container filled with water enter the window of the floor the figure was in.

Allen was stunned to witness the first survivor of the apocalypse other than his group and the way he was getting supplies, but it didn't last long as he formed a plan in his head.

'Time to pay my new friend a visit.' Allen smiled, as he made his way.

The building was just opposite to the one he was in, so it wasn't a problem for him to go in there.

'He should be on the fourth floor.' He thought and was about to make his way when a shadow covered his face.

"0_0!"

He looked up only for his eyes to widen in disbelief as a huge cupboard was falling directly where he stood.

Allen's reaction speed was on overdrive as he quickly jumped backwards making sure there was a sizable distance from where he previously stood.

BANG!

The very next second the cupboard fell where he had stood just moments ago as it broke on impact but not before cracking the marble floor beneath it slightly.

Allen inwardly heaved a breath of relief as he squinted his eyes and looked up.

His ocean-blue eyes came into contact with the owner of another pair of eyes who was clad in a blue hoodie.

"...?!"

Shock covered the person's expression as he realized his attack had failed before being replaced by panic as he saw the one he had tried to take down look at him with a deathly glare.

He quickly went back inside as Allen regained his composure and followed after him as he climbed the stairs.

Wheesh

A sharp black knife that resembled a fang appeared in his hand as he prepared himself for the worst.

He reached the floor and entered the room where he saw the man go inside but as soon as he did, he felt his feet come into contact with something sticky that prevented him from taking another step forward.

When he looked below he saw that he had stepped on a rope and his shoes were covered in sticky industrial tar.

Click

"0_0!"

Allen heard a sound that rang alarm bells in his head and instantly without wasting another moment bent 90°.

BANG!

A gaping hole appeared on the wall to Allen's left as a projectile fired from a shotgun pierced through it.

Allen looked to his right where he saw the shotgun with smoke coming from its barrel.

The trigger was connected to the rope in such a way that it would immediately fire if the rope were to be moved as seen with Allen's leg.

"..."

Allen didn't immediately try to stand up again and instead stared intently at the shotgun.

He then moved his leg that was in contact with the rope slightly once more.

BANG!

The shotgun fired another projectile as the trigger pulled when Allen's leg moved the rope for the second time.

He realized that standing would be folly as it would move the rope again.

Allen instantly thought of a plan and went on to implement it to get himself out of this situation.
