Chapter 16 - CHAPTER 16:Valencrest Royal Academy

The carriage slowed.

Stone walls rose ahead—

Tall. White. Imposing.

Banners fluttered along the top, each carrying the marks of noble houses.

Valencrest.

Adrian stepped out once the gates opened.

For a moment, he said nothing.

The academy stretched far beyond what he expected.

Wide courtyards.

Multiple buildings.

Training grounds visible even from the entrance.

Students filled the area.

Nobles.

Some stood confidently.

Some spoke in groups.

Some simply observed.

"…So this is where they gather them all," Adrian muttered.

First Impressions

The atmosphere was… different.

Not loud.

Not chaotic.

Structured.

Measured.

Even conversations felt controlled.

Adrian walked forward.

Eyes moved.

Not all toward him—

But toward others.

"…Duke's son."

"…That's from the northern territory."

"…Count family…"

Recognition passed between students.

Hierarchy—clear, even without words.

Adrian exhaled quietly.

"…Expected."

Presence

Then—

He felt it again.

That subtle pressure.

Not overwhelming.

But present.

Stronger than before.

Some students…

Were already different.

"…Aura," Adrian muttered under his breath.

Familiar Face

Among the crowd—

He noticed her.

Silver hair.

Calm posture.

Seraphina.

She stood among a small group, composed as always.

Others spoke around her—

But she didn't seem particularly engaged.

Adrian approached without hesitation.

She noticed him almost immediately.

A brief pause.

"…You made it," Adrian said.

"…Obviously," Seraphina replied.

No surprise.

No exaggeration.

Just acknowledgment.

"…Valencrest suits you," he added.

"…It suits everyone with a title," she said calmly.

A faint pause.

"…Don't fall behind," she added.

Adrian smirked slightly.

"…Same to you."

Others

Nearby—

A group shifted slightly.

Someone walked through without stopping.

Dark hair.

Sharp gaze.

Students made space instinctively.

"…Lionhart," someone whispered.

Cedric.

He didn't look at anyone.

Didn't need to.

His presence alone was enough.

Not far from him—

Another figure stood quietly.

A girl.

Black hair.

Calm eyes.

Watching everything.

Not speaking.

Not reacting.

Just observing.

Adrian's gaze lingered for a moment.

"…Interesting."

Tension

"Watch where you're going."

The voice cut through the air.

A noble, clearly irritated, brushed past another student.

"…Lower-ranked families should learn their place."

No fight.

But tension lingered.

Adrian looked away.

"…Same everywhere."

Instructor Arrival

Then—

Silence.

Not forced.

Natural.

A man stepped forward.

Tall.

Composed.

Nothing flashy—

But the air shifted.

He stopped at the front.

Eyes scanning the crowd.

"…Listen carefully."

The voice wasn't loud.

But it carried.

Everyone heard it.

Darius Varn

"…From today, you are students of this academy."

"…Your name. Your family."

"…None of it matters here."

A brief pause.

"…Only your ability."

Adrian's eyes narrowed slightly.

The pressure—

Stronger now.

This man…

Was different.

The System

"…You will not be ranked today."

"…For one month…"

"…you train."

Murmurs almost began—

But stopped.

"…This is your foundation."

"…Your body will be tested."

"…Your mind will be tested."

"…And your limits will be exposed."

Adrian listened quietly.

"…Your goal is simple."

A pause.

"…Awaken aura."

Silence.

Heavy.

"…Those who succeed…"

"…will stand above the rest."

"…Those who don't…"

"…will fall behind."

No comfort.

No reassurance.

Just fact.

More Than Training

"…After this month…"

"…you will be ranked."

Now—

Students reacted slightly.

"…Your rank determines everything."

"…Your position."

"…Your opportunities."

"…Your value."

Adrian's gaze sharpened.

"…If you want a higher rank…"

A brief pause.

"…Take it."

No explanation needed.

"…Challenges are permitted."

"…Victory decides position."

A faint shift passed through the crowd.

Tension rising.

"…You will also be assigned missions."

"…Performance will affect your standing."

Then—

Silence again.

"…This is not a place for comfort."

"…If you cannot keep up…"

"…you will be left behind."

The pressure faded slightly.

But the meaning remained.

Assignment

"Dorm assignments will now be given."

Students began moving.

Names called.

Groups forming.

Adrian received his assignment.

Room 27.

Dormitory

The dorm building was large.

Not luxurious—

But well-maintained.

Clean.

Organized.

Functional.

Inside—

Long corridors.

Students moving in and out.

Adrian found his room.

He opened the door.

Someone was already there.

A boy.

Glasses.

Calm expression.

He looked up.

"…You're my roommate?"

Adrian stepped in.

"…Looks like it."

A brief silence.

"…Edwin Vale," the boy said.

"…Adrian."

Edwin nodded slightly.

"…First day already feels tiring."

"…It'll get worse," Adrian replied calmly.

A small pause.

"…Probably," Edwin agreed.

Ending

Adrian set his belongings down.

Then sat.

Quiet.

"…Aura."

"…Rank."

"…Challenges."

A faint smirk appeared.

"…This really won't be boring."

Outside—

The academy buzzed quietly.

A month had begun.
