Chapter 3 - Exploring the Apartment, Bodies, and the famed Devilnet!

Stepping out of the wardrobe after an embarrassing amount of time, she glanced around her and reality set back in. What to do, what to do… She blinked. Wait, one of the world changes I selected was messaging boards. That would imply some sort of supernatural internet. Maybe that could work? Maybe I can try to see if I can get in contact with someone that way.

Except, there was one problem. She was supposed to have a phone with an infinite battery, on top of a few other very important things. But where were they?! From nowhere, it was not a voice that came, but a bundle of information. Once more, her head throbbed. But unlike when it was about all kinds of spells, it quickly faded away. Aah, it's in my apartment. That made sense considering there was no way a sword could have fit in her cocoon, and she certainly didn't see it lying around somewhere.

Turning into a bat once more, a sigh of relief escaped from her when she felt her clothes merging into her body and not just falling to the ground. Flapping her furry little wings, she soared through the air before diving toward the entrance of her cocoon! A second before impacting, it faintly shimmered with a purple light, signifying that one of her ten entrance ways had been used up.

She dove in, and a strange sucking sensation overcame her, before she was skidding along the wooden floor panelling of her brand new apartment. Owwww. If this were actually an anime, she knew her tiny bat eyes would have swirls in them as her wings pathetically spasmed on the ground. Note to self, don't dive full speed into a doorway.

Which, in hindsight, was kind of obvious. Should have just crawled to the edge and dropped in. Well, she'd live and learn. Either that or she'd figure out a way to slingshot herself in and out of the doorway to gain momentum for the fun of it.

Shifting back into her human form, she took a very brief tour of the apartment. It held only three rooms for now. The bedroom which she had landed in, a bathroom, and a kitchen. On a nightstand next to her bed was her phone, money, citizenship papers, ID, and a whole load of other standard stuff to prove that a person existed and was real. On a wall like a mantlepiece was her sword, the closet door was actually a doorway to her magical walk-in, and in the kitchen were her rare candies.

It was interesting to note that the aesthetics of the bedroom and kitchen were noticeably Eastern, and if she knew more about Japan, she'd have locked in it being Japanese. But she didn't, so that was just a highly educated guess. It really is simple and basic. The bathroom doesn't even have a bidet! At least whoever reincarnated her was nice enough to give her the basics for a morning routine, and the toothpaste tube even had a cute little cat paw and fangs pattern on it!

Still, inspecting the apartment hadn't been why she actually came here, and so holding her phone, she turned on the screen and was pleasantly surprised to find an app called 'Devil Net' already installed. I guess the message board world change overrides the political one in this instance? That would be the only way a worldwide supernatural messaging board could actually exist, especially one seemingly made and maintained by Devils. Or maybe it was Message Boards plus Just Better.

That assumption… actually made a surprising amount of sense in her mind. Political DxD took 3 PP and 4 IP, whereas the combined total for the other two was 5 PP and 2 IP. Overriding it in this one area was rather consistent and logical. In that case, I can assume almost assuredly that lots of areas in relation to politics and benefits override Just Better in the supernatural world. Which would explain how certain Pillar Houses maintained certain ranks, and yet didn't have an Ultimate Class being. Cough, House Gremory, cough.

But that was fine, she had expected that. But there is one problem. Staring at the app, a look of overwhelming dread appeared on her face. What's my account name going to be?! This was a serious problem, okay! This was going to be something that stayed with her for years, if not hundreds or thousands of them! It needed to perfectly represent her.

Then it came to her. A screename that could not only represent her, but also piss off so many people if they ever realized what clan trait she had.

Saint Nekopire. She typed in the name and hit enter. There was a flesh of red. Can not use the word Saint without aura-verification. Input magic for aura verification? Shit. On the one hand, there was no way she was a saint. On the other hand, there was no way she should input magic into an app that was literally called Devil Net, and was likely looked over by Ajuka Beelzabub, who was probably the smartest person in the entire world. But! My phone is literally a multiversal conduit. I'm doing it inside of my apartment in a separate dimension, my aura is going to drastically change in the coming weeks and months as I train, AND I have the anti-scrying perk.

So, really. How much danger could there really be from doing it? On the other other hand, while it was a stupid decision, she really wanted to at least TRY to get her screname! She had a significant amount of protection while doing this. So, what was she afraid of? Besides, there was also the Political world change she had chosen!

While Ajuka was strong, there were still multiple Youkai at the power of Ultimate-Class, some at the level of Satans, and an entire Pantheon in Japan! He wouldn't do anything too extreme, would he? Especially because she hadn't selected the drawback to have a faction's attention on her.

Her Youki, which had recovered a bit, bubbled up underneath her skin once more, and she poured just a couple of drops of it into her phone while doing her best to repress as much of her clan trait as possible. Aura verification in progress. 1% 10% 25% 37% 62% 87% 98% 100%. Aura verified. Sainthood verified. Underage verified. She blinked. There's no way my nonsensical bullshit ramblings to convince myself it was fine actually paid off. That… what?

How did that even work?! She certainly was no saint. Every religion in her old world was practically frothing at the mouth in hatred of her, and she had killed countless people. How is a monster like me a saint? It made no sense in her mind.

Then again, who was she to question the almighty Devil Net? Whatever, I'll just have to feed a few more stray puppies to live up to it, I guess. Especially now that they wouldn't explode just by existing near her for a few minutes.

Revelling in the idea of actually being able to be near regular people and animals again, she took a deep breath to snap out of it and began to peruse the Devil Net and did her best to ignore the fact that it creepily knew her age. Quickly, she figured out a few things. First off, the Devil Net didn't JUST have the message boards. It had the equivalent of Instagram, Wikipedia, Fandom, YouTube, Netflix, and Twitter. Because of course. Then it had a bunch of message boards that, while they ran under the same site, were broken off into the various factions.

The fact that she had access to the Youkai AND Vampire sections was mildly terrifying, and it took a long, heart-attack-inducing moment of scrolling to verify that she, in fact, didn't have access to the Devil sections. Okay, good. Everythings fine, and this paid off. Quickly delving into the Youkai section, she wrinkled her nose as no thread immediately popped up as helpful. They really should set up a pinned hotline or something.

Then again, from what she could tell, the Youkai section barely had any use from how few threads it had, and ancient supernatural probably weren't used to the new-fangled technology. Damn old people. Guess I'll have to just ask publicly.

Clicking the create thread button, she made her post.

Faction Boards > Youkai

Question about Burial Rights and Missing Persons.

Saint Nekopire (Verified Saint) (Underage)

Good morning! (Or whatever time it is, I haven't checked since I woke up kidnapped.) I'm kind of new to Japan, so I don't really know what to do here and am asking for help! I sadly woke up inside the den of a Tsuchigomo, except he was already dead because a Stray Devil killed him. After I dealt with the Stray Devil, I've sadly come to find that the Tsuchigomo had abducted some humans and two Youkai Children.

My question is: What do I do? As in, who do I call to report these bodies so the families can finally begin to find peace? (I'm on the island of Honshu!) Just as importantly, if the laws of Supernatural Japan (or Youkai in general) have it so that there's no way I get the human families informed, what are the proper burial rights and ceremonies so I can put them to rest? If there's a thread I missed somewhere, please do tell me!

Thank you, and have a wonderful day!

Post done, she put a password on her phone and then slipped it into a pocket. Because, of course, her magical wardrobe would know all about her love of pockets! Now then, I suppose I should go cut down the cocoons and get them all laid out. Going on her tippy-toes to grab her sword off the wall, she turned back into a bat and very gently flew out of the door.

Quickly turning back into a human once she was back on the warehouse floor, with sword in hand, she went about cutting down the cocoons while doing her best to lower them onto the floor instead of just having them fall. Luckily, the ROB didn't screw her THAT hard, so her body was at least better than the average human's.

Still, she was just a tiny little Nekoshou Dhampir hybrid, so it took a bit of finagling for the bodies of the adults. It would take a LOT more power to deny physics of its place in reality than she currently held. Sadly, the world's a lot less fun when you can't tell the rules to disappear for a while. Even if she was technically supernaturally strong already, albeit barely. But with taking her time, and an embarrassing break to get her breath back, all ten cocoons were placed on the ground and sliced open.

Wooh! That was way more effort than it should have been. I guess there are downsides to being so weak. As for the downsides of being small? She was sadly used to that. There was a reason why she had chosen medium for size. She was so done with being small. One lifetime had been more than enough. Even if being a 'shortstack' did have SOME benefits. A strange grin, not at all fitting a 13-year-old Nekoshou's face, slithered its way across her lips. A second later, with a hint of a blush, she shook it away.

Bad! Calm the horny. Taking a deep breath, she sat down a few feet away from the respectfully laid out bodies and pulled out her phone to see if anyone had responded. Just… gotta think about other things so my mind doesn't wander. Like, what my name is going to be because I stupidly decided I shouldn't remember that anymore.

She had never put much stock into her first name, so it was kind of surprising how disconcerting it was to not know that, or the name of the city she used to call home. At least I know I lived in America still. Most of her memories were still there, just the important details that would help her identify family and friends were gone. Faces, names, exact locations. That type of thing. It was strange, but honestly…

Was it that much stranger than changing bodies, universes, or her entire life before this? No. No it wasn't. It was just another mark in a long list, another nightmare to add to the tally. Unlocking her phone, she lightly hummed to herself as she pulled up Devilnet, still thinking while doing so. Names, names… It should be something Japanese-sounding, right? Definitely not western, who is going to respect a Nekoshou Dhampir called Jessica? A shudder raced down her spine just at the thought of it.

No, it definentively if not Japanesse at least had to be unique. Hrm… I can think about it later. Looks like my post has some replies.

Eastern Watching Crow

Hello there! I'd suggest calling….

Moderator Edit: Don't self-promote, and you're on the wrong island.

Lord of Flames (Verified WKF Official) (Verified Kitsune)

Ignore the crow, I already asked mods to slap his head again.Welcome to Japan and Honshu! If you go to your profile and update your location to Japan, you should get access to the Japanese subboard for Youkai! If you add the island of Honsho you should also get access to any sub-boards for cities/towns, so the one you're in might already exist. There should be a fitting hotline or thread there, as well as local laws! If not, I'd suggest looking at your Prefecture's board.

On another note, in the Kyoto board, there is a pinned post that should help if you need any help because of your abduction or need help contacting any guardians. (We all know why that thread exists. I shouldn't have to explain.) I'm sorry this was your introduction to our home, and hopefully the rest of your stay in your homeland is far better!

Also :((((((((((((( I'm so sorry!!!!!! No one should have to deal with that while so young.

Realist of Reals

Okay, I'll be the one to point it out. How is a child a saint??? How does a saint have access to the Youkai boards??? HOW DID THEY MAKE THIS POST AFTER BEING KIDNAPPED?

Lady of the Blackened Sun (Verified Daiyoukai)(Verified Sage)

Reply to Realist of Reals

Other religions have the equivalent of Saints too, not just the Abrahamic. It's just that because the Devils are from the Abrahamic section of the world, and that tag is a global verification, it says Saint here too. Also, they're obviously a Nekomata. Their profile name is literally Saint Nekopire.

I don't get how you can even question the saint tag when it's from the Aura verification. Any research at all would tell you that it cares more about the karma and intention clinging to the aura input, and not JUST the blessing of a Religion. Satan Beelzebub's creation is quite exquisite in that regard. Children nowadays, really. Have you all forgotten how to use any of your brain?

Saint Nekopire (Verified Saint) (Underage)

Thanks, everyone!!! I'll make sure to set my location properly. I was wondering why the board was so sparse. Maybe a pin for that is needed. Or maybe I'm just too new to the Devilnet! (I just made my account for this post!)

Don't be too mean to Realist of Reals, though. I was confused when I actually got verified as a Saint. Lots of people deserve that tag more than me :(. Anyway, I'm gonna go figure this all out, so thanks again for the help! Oh, and I have a phone. They probably didn't think I could escape, so it wasn't taken from me. (Or they didn't know what a phone was, that's possible ig.)

Closing out of the thread, she rubbed at her cheeks for a little bit before going about making the proper changes to her profile. That's kind of embarrassing. I should have tried to do more research before posting that. How could I have known, though, that I just needed to update my location?! But, it is what it is. It wasn't that big of a deal. Even if locking a lot of the boards for the Youkai faction to the location is an interesting decision. Then again, perhaps what counts as 'Youkai' is larger than just Japanese spirits and monsters? She wasn't sure. After all, this world was different.

With her profile updated and lots more boards now available for her perusal, she went back in, only to pause in surprise. Huh, Kuoh actually has a board? How many people live here? A quick Google search on the regular internet had her rapidly blinking in shock. I… I guess I know why a Belial was the previous ruler, and why a Gremory and Sitri could co-rule this place. Five hundred thousand. The city of Kuoh had five hundred thousand people in it.

You could have told her before this that it was a tenth of that, and she would have been shocked. Jesus, that's insane. What kind of politics, bribery, and payment got Yasaka and the Shinto Pantheon to let this city be governed by Devils? That was an obscene amount of humans to gain contracts, resources, and power from. Back in her world, the Shinto faith had around two and a half million people—to give up a FIFTH of that? Crazy. Of course, it's assuredly much larger here, but still. That's a crazy amount to give up.

But now wasn't the time for shock or diving into the politics involved. Instead, she had to deal with these bodies! Searching the Kuoh board, she quickly found out a few things. One, there was a stickied thread reminding everyone that when the new Overseer was appointed, they and their peerage would have access to the board. Alongside the fact that a few supernaturally aware humans had access to it.

While that information was interesting, what else she found was far more important! Because she had figured out who she had to call to deal with the bodies properly, considering she still didn't want to just dump them. There's just one problem. She still hadn't figured out her name! I never knew this was so difficult. No wonder some parents take the entire pregnancy and only figure it out on the day of. It has to be perfect, so what will it be?

After an embarrassingly long time, she picked her phone back up and dialed the number she had found, having decided on the name…
