Chapter 15 - 015: The World Is Watching me Back

The world was watching him.

Not metaphorically.

Not in a way he could ignore.

It was real.

Kai didn't move.

Didn't blink.

Because the moment he lifted his head—

Everything had eyes.

Not visible ones.

Not shapes.

Not creatures.

Something worse.

Awareness.

The ground beneath him felt different.

Not solid.

Observed.

The air brushing against his skin felt heavier.

Not pressure.

Attention.

"…This isn't normal."

His voice came out low.

Careful.

Like speaking too loudly might trigger something.

The presence inside him responded.

Quiet.

Steady.

"No."

Kai swallowed.

"…So what did I do."

"You connected."

The answer came instantly.

Unavoidable.

Kai's fingers tightened against the ground.

"…To that thing."

"To more than that."

That made his chest tighten.

"…Explain."

Silence.

Then—

"You touched origin."

The word settled heavily again.

Origin.

It didn't feel like a name.

It felt like a category.

A level.

Something beyond what he had understood before.

Kai exhaled slowly.

"…And now everything is watching me."

"Because you can now be seen."

That answer didn't help.

It made things worse.

Much worse.

Kai pushed himself up slowly.

His body felt… different.

Not just stronger.

Not just faster.

Aware.

Every movement felt sharper.

Every breath clearer.

Like he wasn't just existing anymore.

Like he was present in a way he hadn't been before.

"…I don't like that."

"It is not about preference."

Kai let out a quiet breath.

"…Yeah, I figured."

He took a step forward.

The ground didn't just hold him.

It reacted.

Subtly.

Almost like it registered his presence.

Kai paused.

"…You feel that too."

"Everything does."

His jaw tightened.

"…So I'm a problem now."

"You are a signal."

That word hit differently.

Signal.

Not threat.

Not prey.

Not hunter.

Something that attracts.

Something that calls.

Kai's eyes narrowed.

"…Calls what."

Silence.

Longer this time.

Then—

"Attention."

Kai exhaled slowly.

"…That's not comforting."

He started walking again.

This time more carefully.

More aware.

Because now—

He understood something important.

It wasn't just that he could see more.

More could see him.

And that changed everything.

His gaze shifted slightly.

Not fully turning.

Just enough to test it.

Those shapes—

Still there.

But different now.

Closer.

Clearer.

More defined.

Kai's chest tightened.

"…You said they would get closer."

"They are."

His steps slowed.

"…Because of me."

"Because you are visible."

Kai let out a quiet breath.

"…So I made myself a target."

"Yes."

No hesitation.

No comfort.

Just truth.

Kai stopped walking again.

His mind moved quickly.

Faster than before.

Processing.

Calculating.

Adapting.

"…Then I need to control it."

"You cannot hide completely."

"…Then I don't hide."

Silence.

Then—

"Explain."

Kai's eyes sharpened.

"…If I'm already visible…"

He clenched his fist slightly.

"…Then I decide how I'm seen."

The presence inside him went quiet.

Not dismissing.

Not correcting.

Considering.

That was new.

Kai took another step forward.

Stronger this time.

More certain.

"…I'm not going to run from something I don't understand."

"That is not always wise."

Kai's lips curved slightly.

"…Neither is surviving things I shouldn't."

That answer didn't get a response.

But he felt it.

That shift.

That subtle change.

Like something was paying closer attention now.

Not the shapes.

Not the presence.

Something else.

Something deeper.

Kai's eyes narrowed.

"…There's more."

"Always."

The word settled heavily.

Kai exhaled slowly.

"…Of course there is."

His hand moved to his chest again.

That pulse—

Still there.

Stronger now.

More stable.

More… his.

"…You're part of me now."

"We are integrated."

That word didn't feel temporary.

It didn't feel optional.

It felt final.

Kai's fingers tightened slightly.

"…Then we work together."

Silence.

Then—

"That depends."

Kai's eyes narrowed.

"…On what."

"On whether you remain you."

That again.

That same question.

That same uncertainty.

Kai's expression hardened.

"…I told you already."

His voice dropped slightly.

Colder.

More certain.

"I decide that."

For a moment—

Nothing happened.

Then—

The pressure around him shifted.

Not heavier.

Not lighter.

Aligned.

The presence didn't resist.

Didn't argue.

It accepted.

That was the first time.

Kai felt it clearly.

"…Good."

He took another step forward.

Then another.

Moving through a world that no longer felt the same.

But he didn't stop.

Because stopping meant thinking.

And thinking meant hesitation.

And hesitation—

Would get him noticed.

More than he already was.

His gaze stayed forward.

Focused.

Controlled.

But still—

At the edge of his vision—

Something moved.

Faster this time.

Closer.

Not waiting.

Not observing.

Approaching.

Kai's breath slowed.

"…That's new."

"Yes."

This time—

The answer carried something else.

Not calm.

Not neutral.

Tension.

Kai's fingers curled slightly.

"…That's not good."

"No."

The shape at the edge of his vision shifted again.

Closer.

Clearer.

Hungry.

Kai's heart slowed.

Not from calm.

From focus.

"…So what now."

Silence.

Just for a second.

Then—

"Now…"

The voice dropped.

Lower.

More serious than before.

"You run."

Kai didn't hesitate.

He moved instantly.

Because this time—

It wasn't waiting.
