Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Respective Preparations

To overturn the current jujutsu world, the first human they had to deal with was Gojo Satoru.

To defeat Gojo Satoru, Kenjaku proposed two options:

First, the Special Grade cursed object, Prison Realm.

Second, releasing the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna.

And now, Mahito proposed a third option:

"Half-Cursed Spirit," Mahito said.

This was already the second week of Kenjaku teaching Mahito.

During these two weeks, Kenjaku had to repeatedly shatter his traditional perceptions, confirming again and again that the Cursed Spirit before him was indeed the most unique Cursed Spirit in the history of the jujutsu world.

It wasn't something as simple as strength or weakness, but rather Mahito's way of thinking.

No matter how much Kenjaku didn't want to admit it, he had to recognize that Mahito's perception of this world was akin to that of a god.

For example, right now, he was speaking eloquently to Kenjaku, Jogo, and Hanami:

"Thanks to Kenjaku-sensei's efforts, I have completely understood the difference between humans and Cursed Spirits. Of course, it's not the simple logic that humans have a physical body and survive based on it, while we Cursed Spirits are manifestations of curses formed by gathered Cursed Energy. It's about our deeper, respective forms of existence."

He held up a finger and said proudly,

"I can say with certainty that our existence as Cursed Spirits is undoubtedly superior to humans. The reason is simple: humans must grow through eating and sleeping, and must detoxify through excretion and metabolism. We Cursed Spirits, as long as we aren't killed by an equivalent force, are practically immortal. This alone proves that our life rank is above humans."

The corners of Jogo's mouth couldn't stop curling upward.

"Of course. If anything, we are the true humans."

Kenjaku didn't listen to Jogo's self-praise at all; he was seriously listening for Mahito's next key point.

Sure enough, Mahito ignored Jogo's words and sighed heavily.

"But this is only half."

Hanami let out a questioning sound.

Mahito slowly exhaled, as if venting the frustration in his heart.

"We Cursed Spirits, judged by our life form, are incomplete."

Yes, exactly.

This was what made Kenjaku feel terrified of Mahito.

He was too rational, and his vision was too high.

Let alone a Cursed Spirit—even as a thousand-year-old Curse User, Kenjaku had never realized the difference between form of existence and life form during these thousand years.

Before this, although Jogo had claimed that Cursed Spirits were the true humans, Kenjaku had scoffed at it, only enduring it because Jogo was a strong ally he had recruited.

But Mahito was different.

He truly realized the difference between the two and had even summarized the distinctions within two weeks, to the point of forming a preliminary theory.

Kenjaku thought with a shudder that perhaps even without him, as time passed, as long as Mahito didn't die in an accident, this special Cursed Spirit would surely ascend to a divine throne and look down upon the mortal world.

The yin and yang of this world are balanced.

The stronger the Jujutsu Sorcerers become, the more the curses will rise accordingly.

With Ryomen Sukuna awakening in the modern era, with Tengen about to ascend to godhood, with the birth and growth of Gojo Satoru, and even his own continuous actions as a thousand-year Curse User, the Jujutsu Sorcerers of this world had seen a massive rise.

And on the side of curses, after mindlessly accumulating in number, they had finally welcomed the true king of Cursed Spirits.

Mahito was born a month and a half ago.

Quite literally—a candidate for godhood.

Both in terms of thought and ability.

"We Cursed Spirits are not complete life forms. Our most fatal flaw lies in being single-threaded."

Mahito pointed a finger at Jogo.

"For example, Jogo, let me ask you: can you break through your identity as an earth curse and transform your ability into ice, flowing water, or a storm?"

Jogo was stunned.

"How... how is that possible? I am the Curse of the Earth!"

Mahito said calmly,

"But humans can."

Jogo's eyes widened.

"Mahito, have you gone senile from learning under Kenjaku—"

"Humans indeed can."

Kenjaku took a deep breath to suppress the shock in his heart, trying to keep his emotions calm as he spoke slowly.

"Among Jujutsu Sorcerers, there is a very high-level technique called Reversed Cursed Technique application. Jujutsu Sorcerers can, based on their respective Innate Techniques, through negative times negative..."

The theory of positive energy involves reversing one's Innate Technique into an attribute that is its complete opposite.

Jogo looked back at Kenjaku in disbelief.

"Reversing... one's own innate... ability?"

Mahito crossed his arms and said calmly,

"Jogo, this is why I say our life form as Cursed Spirits is incomplete. We are curses formed from the negative emotions emitted by humans in their daily lives, which undoubtedly places our form of existence above that of humans."

"But on the other hand, precisely because we are curses formed from human negative emotions, we cannot escape the shadow of the curse and are forced to live and act only as curses."

"Except for Hanami, we cannot even restrain our murderous impulses toward humans."

"Even Hanami inherits the mindset of a curse, naturally thinking of killing humans as a way to save nature. As the name implies, we are curses, and only curses."

"But humans are different. As Jogo said, the base color of humanity is lies and deception, yet they are able to overcome, and even conquer, this..."

"...pitch-black reality, building a new society with unity and order."

"They can even endure the basic instincts of eating and sleeping; people who choose to go on hunger strikes or die from exhaustion due to lack of sleep are not uncommon in this society."

Mahito turned to Jogo and looked at him seriously.

"Jogo, can you go your entire life without harming a single person?"

Jogo wanted to say of course, but as the words reached his throat, a massive panic suddenly surged.

His mind replayed moments of harming others—crowds burned to death, scorched skin, and wailing silhouettes in the flames.

Just thinking about being completely cut off from these things from this moment onward made him tremble uncontrollably with fear.

He couldn't do it.

He couldn't stop killing.

He couldn't stop burning people.

Because he was the Curse of the Earth.

Mahito saw Jogo opening his mouth but unable to speak, and nodded gently.

"There's no need to feel terrified, Jogo."

He closed his eyes and sighed slightly.

"Because, I can't do it either."

Jogo looked at Mahito in shock.

"You... Mahito, you too..."

"That's right, I'm ashamed, Jogo. I can't do it either."

Mahito opened his eyes and raised his hands to look at them.

"The moment I was born and saw a human, malice bubbled up uncontrollably in my heart. I wanted to kill, to harm, to deceive. This is an impulse stemming from my instincts. I clearly have no survival concerns, yet my instincts crave human wailing and grief, just as humans crave food and sleep."

Mahito paused for a moment and said slowly,

"I cannot go against my instincts. I cannot suppress my murderous urges. My constant twisting of human minds is merely to alleviate the hunger in my heart; I cannot escape it."

Kenjaku nodded inwardly.

Although it had only been two weeks, Mahito's current theory already touched upon the fundamental truth of Cursed Spirit composition.

Just as Mahito said, in terms of form of existence, Cursed Spirits are superior to humans.

But on the other hand, in terms of life form, Cursed Spirits are incomplete.

A complete life should have positive and negative, yin and yang, black and white.

But Cursed Spirits do not.

Cursed Spirits only have the negative, the yin, and the black.

Even if their form of existence is a higher being, their life form is inferior even to beasts.

This is the essence of a Cursed Spirit.

Mahito clenched his fist and looked at Jogo, Hanami, and Kenjaku.

"Therefore, I want to change my body structure."

"I want to break free from my current life form and obtain yang, obtain the positive, obtain white. To that end, the only thing I can think of is to mimic the life form of humans and become a Half-Cursed Spirit."

"Although this is downward compatibility and could be considered an insult for a higher being, compared to the incompleteness of my life form, this bit of humiliation is not worth mentioning to me."

Jogo and Hanami were filled with solemn respect.

Kenjaku also nodded inwardly.

This was indeed the most direct way to surpass being a Cursed Spirit.

But there was one problem.

"How will you do it?" Kenjaku asked.

"Incarnation of Cursed Spirits... as far as I know, except for certain Cursed Spirits that must undergo incarnation to unleash their strength, other Cursed Spirits have never actively done it. Let alone doing it, they haven't even thought about it."

This was the truth.

In fact, Cursed Spirits simply do not need incarnation.

Incarnation is a term specific to cursed objects.

The composition of a cursed object is usually formed by the actions of a Jujutsu Sorcerer during their lifetime.

When a Cursed Spirit dies, if it doesn't undergo special processing, it simply dissipates into the world; it's impossible for it to become a cursed object.

Mahito thought for a moment and said slowly,

"I believe compatibility is very important."

Kenjaku paused.

"Compatibility?"

"Continuing with the example of human Jujutsu Sorcerers: if I were a Jujutsu Sorcerer, my Innate Technique would be Idle Transfiguration, which reshapes the soul. If I continued to grow, I would learn Reversed Cursed Technique application. I ask you, Kenjaku, what do you think the reversal of a soul-reshaping technique would be?"

This question stumped Kenjaku.

He frowned and pondered for a moment before asking tentatively,

"The opposite of the soul... could it be the physical body?"

"Generally speaking, we say the soul resides within the physical body, but for me, it is not so. When I reshape a soul, I can pull the form of the physical body through the soul. I can even see the metabolites of the soul; these metabolites are various human emotions. I can adjust the range and intensity of the soul's release of metabolites through the act of reshaping the soul, which is also the key to how I twist minds."

Mahito pointed to his own eyes and said indifferently,

"Thus, for me, the soul is always above the physical body. The body is merely the shell of the soul; I can change it whenever I wish."

He could change it at any time.

Kenjaku understood Mahito's meaning.

In Mahito's eyes, the existence of the soul is superior to the physical body, so the opposite of the soul certainly wouldn't be the body.

He simply spread his hands.

"Sorry, I can't think of it."

"You are focusing too much on the soul. My ability is reshaping the soul, not just the soul itself."

Mahito took a slow breath and spoke his ambition.

"If I were a Jujutsu Sorcerer, then the opposite of my Reversed Cursed Technique application, reshaping the soul, would very likely be—"

He uttered shocking words.

"—creating the soul."

Kenjaku's pupils contracted.

He finally understood why Mahito dared to speak such arrogant words about becoming a god so shortly after being born.

In his fundamental way of thinking, he had already placed his ability in the position of a god.

No—rather, it was because he could think from the perspective of a god that he was able to give birth to this unprecedented Cursed Spirit ability of reshaping the soul.

And because he possessed this unprecedented ability, he could judge that by continuing to sublimate himself, he would surely touch the domain of the gods.

The domain of god:

Soul Creation.

Even Jogo and Hanami were stunned.

Jogo couldn't help but ask,

"Is that really possible? Creating souls? As long as you can use Reversed Cursed Technique, you can perform such a miracle?"

"It's not just me, Jogo. Hanami, and of course, I haven't forgotten Dagon—it's the same for all of you."

Mahito said with absolute certainty,

"According to the principle of two negatives making a positive in Reversed Cursed Technique, you are all very likely to obtain an incredible increase in strength. This increase isn't just a matter of being stronger or weaker, but a sublimation of your life level—the benefits gained from completing your life stage."

He wasn't talking nonsense.

There was even a certain theoretical basis for it.

Although the Half-Cursed Spirit was Mahito's own hypothesis, there were indeed existences close to this concept in the original work.

That was—the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings.

The hosts of the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings were born with the ability to continuously convert their Cursed Energy into real blood, and their Innate Technique was the blood-related Blood Manipulation.

Mahito suspected that the Reversed Cursed Technique of the Cursed Womb: Death Paintings was the creation of blood through its Cursed Energy properties.

If this theory were true, as long as Mahito could become a Half-Cursed Spirit, his Reversed Cursed Technique would very likely be Soul Creation.

When that time comes, with soul reshaping in his left hand and soul creation in his right—

that will be the complete me.

Kenjaku took a deep breath and said slowly,

"I can't say for sure. Even in the history of the jujutsu world, an existence like a Half-Cursed Spirit has never appeared. I can't be certain if your hypothesis will succeed... but, judging solely from theory, I can't find any flaws with my professional knowledge. This is very likely true."

In other words, if Mahito really became a Half-Cursed Spirit and could perform Reversed Cursed Technique, he truly could use the ability of Soul Creation.

Could the abilities of soul reshaping and soul creation rival Gojo Satoru's Six Eyes and Limitless?

Kenjaku didn't know, but just thinking about the possibility made his scalp tingle.

This was the true realm of genius.

Compared to Ryomen Sukuna, Gojo Satoru, and Mahito, Kenjaku, the thousand-year Curse User, seemed to pale in comparison.

Mahito nodded with satisfaction.
