Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: The Seat of Power

The air in Abuja was different from the humid, salt-tinged breeze of Lagos. It was dry, dusty, and carried the heavy scent of old money and quiet secrets. As the Apex convoy crossed the city limits, the Aso Villa loomed in the distance—the fortress of a government that was currently deciding whether Tobi was a savior or a death sentence.

Tobi sat in the back of the armored SUV, his eyes fixed on a holographic display of the 'Silver-Gate' ledger. The silver circuits on his skin were pulsing a deep, rhythmic amber—the color of a Level 27 Sovereign preparing for a confrontation.

"The military presence is three times what we saw in Lagos," Ama said, her hands dancing across her keyboard. "They've blocked the roads to the National Assembly. Tobi, the Consortium has deep roots here. Half of the Senate is on that ledger you leaked."

"That's exactly why they won't fire," Tobi said, his voice as cold as ice. "They know that if I fall, the 'Kill-Switch' on that data triggers. I didn't just leak the truth; I turned it into a ticking time bomb."

[New Quest: 'The Lion's Den'.]

[Objective: Confront the High Council; Secure 'Sovereign Recognition'.]

[Reward: +400,000 XP; Unlock 'Continental Seat'.]

As they approached the first checkpoint, the soldiers didn't raise their rifles. Instead, they stood at a strange, rigid attention. As Tobi looked through the 'Hive Mind', he saw why. Every soldier had a phone in his pocket. And every phone was currently displaying a live feed of Tobi's face.

"I am not here to fight the army," Tobi's voice projected through the mesh-network, echoing from the soldiers' own devices. "I am here to speak to the men who sold our future for Swiss bank accounts. Stand aside."

The gates didn't just open; they were abandoned. The soldiers stepped back, their faces a mixture of awe and terror. They were witnessing the birth of a new kind of power—one that didn't need guns because it owned the information.

Tobi stepped out of the SUV in front of the National Assembly. He wasn't wearing a suit. He was wearing his Apex jacket, the sleeves rolled up to reveal the glowing architecture of the System etched into his skin.

He walked up the marble steps alone. Ama stayed in the car, her heartbeat visible on Tobi's HUD as a steady, nervous pulse.

Inside the Great Hall, the silence was deafening. The High Council—a group of twelve men who had run the country from the shadows for decades sat behind a curved mahogany desk. In the center sat the only man who wasn't looking at a screen: The Minister of State, a man whose name was at the very top of Silas's ledger.

"You've caused a lot of trouble for a delivery boy from Ibadan," the Minister said, his voice raspy and thin.

"And you've made a lot of money for a man meant to serve the people," Tobi replied, stopping in the center of the hall.

[Skill Activation: 'Monarch's Truth'.]

[Effect: Forces all digital devices in the room to display the 'Silver-Gate' Evidence.]

The massive screens behind the Council flickered. Suddenly, the secret bank accounts, the offshore transfers, and the recorded conversations with Silas began to loop for all to see.

"Shut it off!" one of the Councilmen screamed, his face turning a sickly shade of grey.

"It's not an app, Minister. You can't just delete it," Tobi said, his eyes glowing with an intense, blinding gold. "I am the System now. I am the infrastructure you tried to sell. You have two choices: You can sign the 'Sovereign Recognition Act' and allow Apex to operate as a public utility... or I can hit 'Enter' and send the rest of this ledger to every news agency on the planet."

"You wouldn't," the Minister whispered. "You'd crash the entire economy. Millions would starve."

"They're already starving," Tobi countered. "The only difference is that now, they'll know exactly whose table the food is on."

[System Notification: Tension at 99%.]

[Warning: Incoming System Signature detected!]

[Identity: Silas (Remote Projection).]

The air in the center of the hall fractured. A holographic projection of Silas appeared, his face twisted in a mask of cold fury.

"You think a few leaked documents give you the right to rule, Tobi?" Silas's voice boomed through the hall. "I built this world. I wrote the code you're using. You're just a parasite living in my architecture."

"Then it's time for an upgrade," Tobi said. He reached out and grabbed the air where Silas's projection stood.

[Skill Activation: 'The Sovereign's Eraser'.]

With a violent surge of energy, Tobi didn't just close the projection; he traced the signal back. In Switzerland, Silas's main terminal exploded in a shower of sparks. The projection in Abuja screamed before vanishing into nothingness.

The Minister looked at the empty space where Silas had been, then at the golden-eyed boy standing before him. With a trembling hand, he reached for the pen.

[Quest Update: 'The Lion's Den' — SUCCESS!]

[Reputation Gained: 'Architect of the New Age'.]

[Level Up: Level 28.]

Tobi walked out of the hall ten minutes later, a signed document in his hand. He looked up at the Abuja sky. It was clear, the stars bright and uncensored.

"Ama," Tobi said, getting back into the SUV. "We have the recognition. Now, we go to the one place Silas can't follow."

"Where?"

"Into the source code."
