New York Manhattan, Umbrella Corporation rooftop helipad. Under the cover of night, Matthew, clad in a black Combat Suit, was fully armed. Before him, members of Alpha Team stood not far away, hands clasped behind their backs, faces grim.
"Gentlemen, due to your captain Hunk's injury, I will be leading this operation."
"Our mission objective is simple: covertly infiltrate the research facility, retrieve confidential company documents, eliminate individuals detrimental to the company, and destroy any evidence that could harm the company."
"Is that clear?"
"Clear!"
"Good, board the helicopter!"
"Yes, sir!"
At his command, Alpha Team swiftly boarded the helicopter. In the night, the sound of the helicopter cutting through the sky seemed insignificant, attracting no attention.
After an unknown period. The helicopter landed in a suburban area.
After landing, the group made no stops, quickly blending into the night as they rushed towards the Underground Research Facility located in Raccoon City. Before departure, Matthew had already distributed maps of the Underground Research Facility to Alpha Team members and clearly explained the plan of action.
As a result, their operation proceeded smoothly. They effortlessly arrived outside the base above the Underground Research Facility.
Matthew looked up at the five-meter-high courtyard wall, covered in high-voltage electric fencing. He then glanced at the gate, guarded by only two men not far away, and quickly made a decision.
"Hunter, you and the equipment stay up here. Use the network to infiltrate the research facility's internal network."
"Once the infiltration is complete, disable all surveillance equipment inside the facility."
"After all that's done, remain here on standby, awaiting my command at all times."
"The rest of you, follow me."
"Yes, sir!"
The team member named Hunter was an expert at infiltrating enemy networks; disabling surveillance was child's play for him. Before long, a response came through Matthew's walkie-talkie.
"Infiltration complete."
"Move!" As he spoke, two bullets instantly claimed the lives of the two guards at the entrance, without a single splash.
With the death of the guards at the entrance, the group charged into the research facility without hesitation, like a pack of wolves in the dark.
At this moment, the surveillance room was in chaos. The personnel in charge of surveillance were now sweating profusely.
"Fuck! You bunch of useless idiots!"
"Why haven't you figured out what's causing the abnormal surveillance footage yet?!"
"Why has all the surveillance footage turned into a view of our own surveillance room?!"
"Why are all of you so utterly useless! When there's actual work to be done, you're completely unreliable!!"
"Fuck, fuck, fuck!!" A manager roared loudly at the personnel in the surveillance room.
Listening to the roaring in his ears, a middle-aged man with thinning hair quickly explained, "Supervisor, please don't be angry…"
"Don't be angry? If I'm not angry, what should I be?!" the supervisor shot back.
"I'm giving you thirty minutes to restore the surveillance footage, or else you'll all pack your bags and get out after today!"
The middle-aged man, who had tried to offer comfort only to be rebuffed, stopped speaking and began to bury himself in his work. However, this scene didn't last long.
Soon, the once brightly lit surveillance room plunged into complete darkness after the lights flickered twice.
The bewildered surveillance supervisor walked out of the room. What met his eyes was a completely dark corridor.
The power was out. Or rather, the power had been cut.
...Power Room. The team members looked at Matthew, who was destroying fuses with his gun, feeling very confused.
"Sir, what are you doing?" a team member asked.
"Destroying fuses, can't you tell?" Matthew shot and blew out a fuse.
"Only if we destroy the fuses will the people who come later have the task of 'finding fuses' and 'restoring power'."
"..." It seemed their commander had gone a bit mad from playing too many puzzle games.
"Just kidding. Destroying the fuses is just to create a 'minor malfunction' to trigger their emergency procedures and divert their attention."
With a few more shots, Matthew completely destroyed all the fuses in the electrical box. The mission continued.
With the power supply cut, the area above the base immediately plunged into darkness. The red alarm lights hanging in the corridor spun incessantly.
Their crimson glow painted the corridor blood-red, and the continuous blaring of alarms instilled a creeping fear in anyone who heard it. Meanwhile, a team of heavily armed Security Department personnel began rapidly approaching the area after Matthew and his team cut the power supply.
Unfortunately, they ran straight into Matthew and his team.
"Drop your weapons! Otherwise, we have the right to shoot you on sight!"
"Drop them... bang!" A gunshot suddenly rang out!
A bullet pierced through the speaker's head. Immediately after, the stairwell erupted into chaos!
But this chaos didn't last long. Matthew and his team stepped over their bodies and continued towards their mission objective.
Inside the Underground Research Facility, William Birkin looked at the message relayed from above, his expression extremely grim.
"Bastards! I didn't expect them to move so fast!" William Birkin cursed under his breath, then turned to his wife, also a researcher.
"Annette, I have some bad news for you…"
"My premonition was correct, Spencer's people have arrived… If I'm not mistaken, their mission this time is to take all our experimental results concerning the 'G-Virus'."
"This is our life's work; we can't just let them steal it!"
"So, hurry to the other lab and destroy the experimental data."
"What about you?" Annette Birkin looked at her husband.
"I…" William Birkin hesitated slightly, then said resolutely, "I'll be responsible for taking the G-Virus Serum and samples."
"Remember, after destroying the data, immediately take Sherry and leave. It's no longer safe here!"
"But…"
"No buts! Go, Annette! Remember, I love you both."
With that, William Birkin ran towards the G-Virus lab without looking back.
'Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!! Spencer! Do you think you can just casually snatch away the fruits of someone else's labor?!' William Birkin roared internally!
'No! Impossible! The G-Virus is the result of years of dedicated research; I won't let you just take it away like this!'
Rushing into the lab, William Birkin quickly packed the G-Virus samples into a briefcase. But just as he was about to leave, the locked lab door suddenly unlocked with a 'beep.'
The sound startled William, who quickly drew his pistol from his waist and aimed it at the entrance.
Outside the door, crimson alarm lights flooded the corridor. Against the backdrop of the flashing red light, a figure in a black Combat Suit, head held high, slowly stepped into the lab.
"Allow me to introduce myself. I am Matthew Lawrence, head of Umbrella Corporation's Security Department, and the commander of this operation."
"Dr. William Birkin… I've heard much about you. If not for this mission, I doubt we would have had the chance to meet."
Matthew said, lightly clapping his hands twice. Immediately, two figures, looking panicked and with their hands bound behind their backs, were pushed into the lab by other team members.
It was Annette and their daughter, Sherry. Under the stark, pale light, Matthew looked at the ashen-faced William and calmly asked, "Now, are you interested in talking?"
