Journeyman's guide to The Vile Lands

(A/N Hints below before reading, this information and the information that's not here will be gradually introduced in the story, this is just a more easier form of disgusting the Info, and of course.)

-The Vile Lands

A large circular land mass surrounded by a sea of clouds in a endless expanse. Lush forests, scorched earth, deep lakes and bizarre environments dot the vast areas in 'The Vile Lands'.

But the land holds a looming terror, a massive bottomless hole in the center where a cataclysmic phenomenon occurs causing devastating chaos and destruction called 'The Center of Nowhere.

Every 100 years 'The Center of Nowhere' produces more terrain from its gaping maw, adding more to the land but a devastating cost with pure destruction across the outer areas forcing the land to crack and crumble from the extra terrain, this cataclysm is know as a 'Shift'.

Every night at 12 exact a phenomenon know as 'The Scourge' begins, A dense fog enveloping The Vile Lands sending the wild life and fauna into a violent frenzy, the people not inside towns or settlements that are in the possession of a device called a 'Ward' would slowly go insane, be eaten alive, or become one with 'The Vile Lands'.

This doesn't stop the inhabitants from making small towns and villages or living in 'The Vile Lands' although it's a challenge to do so.

There are only There guaranteed safe settlements in 'The Vile Lands'.

There are three races inhabiting 'The Vile Lands'.

• The Humans

- (No sub-species)

• The Ani-folk

-Mammals

-insects

-Aquatic

• The Undead

- Risen (zombies)

-Skeletons

-Vampire

-Ghouls (has their own language)

All three Races have a major power or ruler, The Monarchs.

•The Wigsi

3,000 years ago the long dead nomadic clan was the first living creatures to step on 'The Vile Lands'. Able to wield 'Primordial Essence' they focused more advancing their technology and culture to tremendous heights.

Unfortunately the 'Wigsi' slowly died out the more diverse the population became in each generation until they become the inhabitants of today.

-The Three pillars

All three Monarchs reside in their own territory called 'The Three pillars' Each piller has its own culture with the name name to match.

Each pillar has their strengths, The humans have advanced technology, The undead has a better grasp at welding 'Essence' And the Ani-folk has deeper connection to the wild life.

•The Apex (Humans)

A structure of imposing stature, the buildings and structures of The Apex is a mix between Europe during the Victorian period and steampunk aesthetic, The Apex in its entirety resembles that of a multi-layered cake with 5 layers,each layer being run by noble family, a technology and royal base culture.

• The Monarch (The entire Apex/the pinnacle)

• Duke/Duchess (second/top section)

• Marquess/Marchioness (Third/Middle section)

•Baron/Baroness (fourth/bottom section)

•Lord/Lady (Ground/bottom section)

Each layer has its own town/city with variety of stores and manufacturers.

•The Royal Guard

Townspeople has the chance to sign if to be a member of the Royal Guard, Each rank gives you the ability to shop and live on each layer they're assigned too.

• The Celestials (The pinnacle)

The highest position in the royal Guard,

Only 7 members can exist at a time, if one dies the person who past the 'Trial of fire' will be granted a place in The Celestials, they are only called to battle when all other options are not enough or the Apex is in peril, you can tell if a person is one of 'The Celestials' if they wear a pale white armor with symbol of a circle inside another circle embroidered on thier chest.

• High Guard (Top section)

The High guards are the ones closest to being promoted to 'The Celestials', Is the army of the Royal guards and only called for war and territorial battles, to tell one is a member of the high guard is to check if they have a cape with a circle on it.

• Mid Guard (Middle section)

Most commonly use as guards for the Noble families if they so chose to leave their layer, covered in bronze armor from head to toe.

• Low Guard (Ground/Bottom section)

The main police force to enforce the law and order, sometimes placed to guard shops and manufacturers, has the bronze standard helmet and breastplate to give away their status.

• Rashara (Ani-folk)

A giant crater of vast wilderness surrounded by river bank with lush trees and lakes adorning the inside of it, very large settlement due to the variety of their race, Nordic like buildings and culture with the Monarch's home being a Mead Hall in the very center.

• The Warriors

These are the army of the Ani-folk with Viking like mentality and the eagerness for battle along with it.

• The Gatherers

The main source of materials and substance, the most guarded besides the Monarch.

• The Wandering

The most curious of the Nordic tribe folk, they are responsible for map making, new material sites and possible enemy encampments.

• The Marsh (Undead)

An ethereal-like place with many trees that curve and bend in hypnotic ways,the trees form a ring around The Marsh guarding it from the outside forces, In the middle a tree of towering proportion stands firm, it's dark purple bark with its neon blue leafs give it an otherworldly appearance, 'The Grandsoul' is it's name. Stories told that the 'The Grandsoul' was but a sapling when the 'Chime' first appeared in 'The Vile Lands', 'The Grandsoul' bears fruit rich in 'Essence' making the fruit ('Grandberry') highly sought after but only the one person has the knowledge and ability to carefully extract the fruit, Trees surrounding 'The Grandsoul' were hollowed out and furnished to be living quarters for the various Undead, the culture being more fae-like than the other two.

The right hand of the Monarch, to advise and support their decision in political or ceremonial matters. Has the ability to listen to the 'The Grandsoul' but not commune.

-Speaker

The left hand of the Monarch, speaking to 'Grandsoul' for the Undead.

-Giver

The only person in 'The Vile Lands' with the knowledge and ability to carefully extract the 'Grandberry' fruit, it being a close guarded secret that was passed from generation to generation.

-Essence/Roles

•Essence

'Essence' was one of two gifts 'The Chime' bestowed upon the inhabitants of 'The Vile Lands', the ability to empower/enhanced oneself to extraordinary heights, it comes in various colors depending on the person, the consistency is that has the appearance of flames but moves like liquid defying gravity.

To unlock your 'Essence' you need to understand your body, your goals, and what drives you.

'Essence' can formed into a solid matter this can be use various like a attack or defense manner to help you in any situation, for instance forming a shield or simply throw a ball of 'Essence' at your target to neutralize or forming a stepping stool to reach higher.

But it has its limitations, if you exhaust all your reserves of 'Essence' all at once it could lead to what is called 'ravaged' a poison to yourself that slowly eat away at your mind and body if you seek medical attention or eat something edible that's rich in 'Essence'.

•Primordial Essence

The most raw and ancient version of 'Essence' that was lost to time, the ability to control and conjure the elements and aspects of reality, fire and wind being was known more before they it was lost to time.

But when the last of the true 'Wigsi' let go of their last breath, the knowledge on how to weild the old power was lost.

No one to remember the ancient art.

•Roles

The second gift the 'Chime' is an biological ability that everyone in 'The Vile Lands' has, be it the ability to summon popcorn or make fish dance there's no end to what 'Role' you'll acquire.

This resulted in prejudice and scorn from others if your 'Role' was not up to the high social standards. Many don't use their 'Role' out of fear of being ostracized from their community.

-The Chime

In the center of 'The Vile Lands' hovering above 'The Center of Nowhere' a deity of unknown origins, A massive silver gem jagged in ways unnatural with gold rings surrounding it, one be diagonal and the other horizontal.

The main source of 'Essence' and topic of scholars around the lands.
