He didn't underestimate. Not anymore and when someone like him decided to move... It wasn't loud. It wasn't reckless.
It was precise.
~~At Hale Group Headquarters~~
The day had returned to normal. On the surface meetings resumed, contracts were reviewed and executives moved with their usual urgency. But underneath it all something felt… off.
Elena sat in her office, eyes scanning through reports on her tablet. Numbers. Projections. Market reactions. Everything looked stable. Too stable.
"…Strange," she murmured.
A soft knock followed.
"Miss Hale?"
"Come in."
Her assistant stepped in, expression slightly tense.
"There's been a delay in one of our overseas transactions."
Elena didn't look up immediately.
"Which one?"
"The Singapore channel."
That made her pause.
Slowly she lifted her gaze.
"…Delay?"
"Yes, Miss Hale. It hasn't failed… just delayed. Repeatedly." Silence.
Because delays were worse than failures, failures were obvious but delays were intentional.
"Trace it," Elena said calmly.
"We already tried," the assistant replied. "There's no visible interference."
A pause.
"…But it's not moving."
~~At Blackstone Tower~~
"Pressure initiated."
A quiet report.
Adrian stood in front of the main screen, watching data streams flow.
Not chaotic. Not aggressive. Controlled.
"They've started," one of his men said.
Adrian didn't respond because he already knew.
"Source confirmed," another added. "Blackridge-linked channels." Silence.
Then he said,
"Let it run." The room stilled.
"…Sir?"
Adrian's gaze didn't shift.
"I want to see how they move."
Because this wasn't an attack. It was a test.
~~Back at Hale Group~~
"Elena Hale."
Her name was spoken softly as she stepped out of the elevator into a restricted executive floor.
One of her senior managers approached quickly.
"We've encountered another issue."
Her eyes sharpened.
"…Say it."
"Two of our partner firms have paused cooperation." A pause.
"No explanation. No warning."
Elena stopped walking.
"…Names."
The manager hesitated.
Then he said, "Arclight Systems and Virex Holdings."
Silence. Because those weren't random companies. They were stable and reliable, carefully selected partners.
"…And both paused at the same time?" Elena asked.
"Yes."
Her expression didn't change but her mind moved faster. This isn't coincidence.
~~Back at Blackstone Tower~~
"They're isolating her."
One of Adrian's men spoke carefully.
"Targeting Hale Group's external links first."
Adrian watched the pattern unfold.
Clean. Structured. Intentional.
"They're not coming for you directly," the man continued.
"They're going through her." Silence.
Then he said,
"I know."
Because that was the correct move.
~~~At Hale Group~~~
Elena returned to her office. The door closed behind her, silence filled the room then she picked up her phone.
One call and it connected almost immediately.
"…Adrian."
~~At Blackstone Tower~~
He answered without hesitation.
"Yes."
Elena didn't waste time.
"They've started." A pause.
"I know."
Her eyes narrowed slightly.
"…Blackridge."
"Yes." Silence. Heavy.
"They're targeting my company," she said.
"Not just yours," Adrian replied calmly.
"Around you." A pause.
Then she said,
"…They're testing your reaction through me."
Elena leaned back slightly.
"…That means one thing."
"They see you as the real threat," she finished.
Adrian didn't deny it.
Silence lingered then she said,
"What's your move?" she asked.
A brief pause. Then he said,
"Nothing."
Elena frowned.
"…Nothing?"
"For now."
Her grip tightened slightly around the phone.
"…They're pressuring my company."
"I know."
"And you're not going to respond?"
A pause.
Then Adrian's voice lowered slightly.
"Not yet."
Silence because that answer wasn't passive. It was calculated.
"They want a reaction," he continued.
"A misstep." A beat.
"So I won't give them one."
Elena exhaled slowly. Her tension didn't disappear but it shifted.
"…Then we endure."
"For now." A pause.
Then Adrian added,
"But prepare."
Elena's eyes sharpened.
"…For what?" A brief silence.
Then he said,
"For when they overextend."
The line went quiet because that was the real plan. Not defense. Not reaction but waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
~~Across the city in Blackridge Holdings~~
"They haven't responded."
The assistant spoke carefully.
The man stood by the window. Unmoving.
"…Of course they haven't." A pause.
Then he said,
"Increase pressure."
His voice remained calm.
"Let's see how long they can hold."
Because from his perspective, this was already decided. All that remained was watching them break.
